What a very nice and very heatwarming video!! Those trains along with the layout would be the PERFECT Christmas present for any young chiild who loves trains or is getting started in the hobby of model railroading.

I wish I could find someone to build him a layout more then anything. He has the DCC and alot of really nice trains but no place to really run them. He can when he at the HO scale train club but that's the only place. What a GREAT thing for you to make him.

I'm signed in under my childs nick, but you couldn't have done anything nicer for the little guy :-) . I sure wish I could find someone to build a layout like that for mine. We are in a train club and has always LOVED HO scale trains.

I was looking for small HO scale videos and came across this. Wow! This reminds me of when I got my first set as a kid. It was an Atlas N scale set with an Southern Pacific C Liner in daylight colors. Great video and a neat layout. What size is this set up?

Best Christmas present ever :D I always buy new modeltrains during christmas (except for this year because of budget problems, but it is the best christmas event ever in my opinion. (also in my opinion is christmas the best holiday.

oh and extra thumbs up for the multi-colored tree! I thought I was the only one who has a multi-colored tree :P

I allways loved going down in my dads basement. Playing with his allsome layout. But he moved to my step moms house so he had to take it down. But on the good news I'm going to see him this Easter. And we get to start from scratch!!!

I love videos like this. Reminds me of how I got started in the Hobby. One of my father's friends who had a room-size layout. He invited me over one day to show me his layout. You can imagine I was floored when I saw his awesome layout. Right before christmas he visited my house with a present. But I couldn't open it until christmas. And He and my dad built me a on a table. Just board and track but needless to say I was in train heaven on Christmas day

@nwteacher You know I have a mess of trains last year from a lady i know, her kids had them as kids and alot of it is in nice shape and new in box, bachmann, tyco, jut a box full of trains she wanted moved out of the way, and never having kids myself, I keep holding this stuff in lue of my massive personal HO collection with thoughts of doing something like this one day for someone I knows kid...

Well, that was almost exactly what happened. I bought a huge lot of really nice high end stuff from a guy who wanted to liquidate his collection. I had a lot of stuff that would work perfect for a layout, and that was what gave me the idea for Gavin's layout. It was a ton of work, but I have gotten so much satisfaction out of it, and when I hear he plays with it EVERY SINGLE DAY, and exactly how I intended. He puts his dinosaurs and aligators on it and has fun!

Hey, no, that is fair. They are all spoiled little girls, even the big ones, and they all got lots of cool stuff. The one is into Mustangs, so of course she got a car, and the other is a princess and likes girly stuff. Everyone had an awesome time, and of course I received some really cool train stuff too!

so are you in to computers also I though I seen some settign on a self I have a shed I have my layout in and computer stuff. tis a fight to see witch one is to take the most space the train's or the computes. lol great video

Wow this is so nice wow I want so much to do this from my son but right now he is in the hospital to figure out why he has a behavual problem you son loooks so happy I have a layout in my shed and I let my son play with his cars on the roads my sone would love this I love how you build the layout and then have it were he can put the buildings anywere on the layout this is soo cool.

Sounds like you should put something together. If he has a behavioural problem, maybe it can be used for teaching, learning and also as a reward. Just being able to spend time with you and the layout is really quality time! Thanks for the comments, I hope all goes well for you and your son.
