  • I had this before Grace Jones covered it. This is perfect. It also describes the USA. Certainly now.

  • that was beautiful!

  • wow, this is both disturbing and pretty good

  • Join...THE CAR CRASH SET!!!!!

  • very nice...

  • Dude, if I would have seen this in the 50's, I would have been Scared Straight fa' sho'. GREAT job! :]

  • Im not sure if its true or if I was getting my leg pulled, but when I was a kid in the 70s, a friend told me that his older teenage cousin was ordered by a judge to see films like this, and, to tour a morgue with car accident victims after he accumulated a bunch of speeding tickets.

  • I can't watch it... But I've always loved the song.

  • j.g. BALLARD

  • this is hardcore

  • Check out "IIHS 1959"

  • people, please focus! don't look at the pics...it's the song that's important...Daniel Miiller wrote/recorded this & TVOD in his living room! i'm of an age to remember when KROQ (LA area) played this...not so much any more...

  • The grainy film stock of the 1950s only adds to the creepiness of the video... hideous, but yes, it's reality... I will be having nightmares for weeks.

  • IF you like this, see part 3 of "Signal 30" . There is a section in part 3 in which there is a female accident victim who moans in pain as if she is having an orgasm.

    Unfortunately, she dies later.

  • oh the real picture of the record is that!

  • I like this music, but I could not watch the video.

  • Great stuff, thanks for the upload. I still have the original maxi single from Mute, but no record player.

  • this is very unpleasant to watch

  • This should be the new NIGHTLIGHT for the TV Stations that stil broadcast the analog signal....

Or should it be T.V.O.D. ?

  • fantastic.

  • Hard to watch but great.

  • This should be shown on REEL 13 Indies!

  • warm leatherette & tvod, written & recorded by daniel miller in his living room, released on mute records in the late 70s, (i swear i still have the vinyl somewhere) & the power is in the analog synths he used and the calm just the facts ma'am voice to describe a hot blood red violence...

  • I'll buy that record off of you

  • THis is a wonderful video for a great song.

    respect for thee uploader.

  • M siento mal... :S

    pero es un temazo!

  • Andy Warhol would have favorited this if he was alive now.

    Devastating.

Anybody still want to drink and drive during the holidays?

  • hmmm they showed stuff like this in my elementary (30 years ago, pre-political-correctness-wankernacht) and I turned out okay.

  • That Ruled!

  • This sent shivers up my spine. Awesome

  • Great video, really compliments the song. Dan miller was quite brilliant worked a lot with frank tovey to produce music for fad gadget and then later depeche mode. If you have not familiarized yourself with fad gadget you should certainly do so. Predates depeche mode, more depth, far more interesting.

  • Awesome!

  • doe anyone know what synth he used to record this and tvod? i know he did it in his bedsit on his own in like 2 nights....

  • korg 700s aka univox minikorg 2

  • thanks mate. i appreciate the reply...i am gonna try and find one...or at least a modern synth that can emulate those sounds...any ideas?

  • Ugh, I actually remember some of those scenes from defensive driving (the later ones were from Highways of Agony and Drive and Survive, I think). They're still showing them in some places. If I recall correctly, there were worse scenes in it. One of the other drivers attending became ill during part of it.

  • You know death is only sobering if you look at it selfishly. "Glad that isn't me" type thinking. Those people arent around to be like "oh thats horrible." Looking at gore is like a sideshow lol. Geez the psychology humans is quite insane. Although I must admit I am quite a sideshow enthusiast lol peace

  • There's a point of pain tolerance I think most of us hit. This, will leave you just dead numb on endorphins.

  • jesus shit

despite the fact that those people are dead

    that was amazing

  • a company called SOMETHING WEIRD sells them

  • @ERASERHEAD18 Check out Riff Trax take on Signal 30!

  • The narrator could punctuate the song itself, not just intro.

  • The shaky fellow seems to puctuate it well enough.

  • Great song, creppy video.

  • ma che cazzo ce metti sti video de merda

  • that was pretty brutal and that will be the only video with dead bodies on youtube seriusly.

  • T.V.O.D

  • BLOODY BRILIANT!!!

  • I only know this song as a teenager - as I understood it, I only saw the sex appeal of fast cars.

My God, teenagers are fucking stupid.

  • this song is like an abortion on vinyl...

  • quite possibly the coolest comment ever left on youtube

  • This song is an industrial club classic, perfect video to go with the words!

  • jesus fucking christ...

  • So dissonant.

  • actually a really good video

  • I'M NEVER DRIVING AGAIN, MOM!

  • No seatbelts back then. :p Its weird it took as long as it did for them to come in. Oh wait. The car companies were cheap and tried to say it was poor driving that caused people to be injured in wrecks. God bless Ralph Nadir

  • Woah, I saw PeeWee Herman injured in one of the pics

  • Also reminds me of drivers ed. Good mix

  • ERASERHEAD18, my hope is you, and others like you that actually enjoy watching trash like this, get help. You enjoy seeing others in pain. You need to kneel down before God and beg his forgiveness, and mercy. Jesus can set you free of this bondage you are under.

  • Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

  • Amazing Watch. Thanks for the upload. Excellent song, as usual

  • I will never not be disturbed by hearing this song again! I cant believe I watched that, lol. Egads.

  • this is budweiser....this is beer...budweiser...the king is here...

REMEMBER drinking is okay, smoking is horrible. brought to you by your government.

  • never knew what this song was about.. I wonder when I was among all of these cool crazy waana be killer kids did they know I was just some normal geek looking at them like huh?

  • i am a very responsible driver, it's the other jack-asses out there that cause all the trouble. i was an EMT for ten years. you might try it for one day and it will change your mind.

  • lol...dripping with venom

  • funny how I see more safe cars being sold. maybe US automakers should make safer vehicles to see more cars.

  • haha good one.

  • do you bang synths?

  • well NOT actully I can fill the Dance floor with it where ever I go it .. Timeless I would to remix this with Ebm more dark wave sound 10/10 in bag as A DJ allways will be Djserialbitch Club electric London UK

  • this song is always popular if mixed with the right music.

  • well maybe we should put his on british TV as road saftey ad they would be in shock !!!! well we have nearly been there getting away with cuts and brusies and whip lash just makes you think how lucky you are

  • this a good video for people who want to speed & drink drive etc etc , maybe they will think before they act. not all accidents are speed/drinking related but I think all drivers should watch videos like this

  • shit man, I've nearly been in a crash that could've tooken my life, except I just got like 6 of my teeths knocked out... ALWAYS! WEAR! A FRIGGIN SEATBELT!

  • great song!

  • Oh my god...I am completely disturbed! None of the first responders are wearing gloves. Eeeeeew that's so gross! I don't mind being around blood and gore on a daily basis as long as I know I've got universal precaution standards in place to protect me. Those guys are just crazy.

  • timeless tune still fill the dance floor with the normal and maybe you should use this road saftey advert here in britain uk after 9 pm on our TV Shocking but brilliantly mastered . Fine art work with the speed kills at the end

  • well done! a great song set to very fitting imagery. not as gory as i expected, but perhaps it just seems less so due to the graininess of the footage. hrm... still, i wouldn't want more gore. gets the point across.

  • you pussies. This video shows what can happen to you if you're an irresponsible idiot while driving. This is usually shown to teens who think they can drive like Schumacher (sp?).

  • Finally! A proper video to a classic song. By the way, Chicks On Speed did a good cover of this song too. We don't all have to hop on the trent reznor bandwagon ;)

  • you guys are acting like its ok to make videos like this

  • why wouldn't it be?

  • well done

    captured the song well

  • AMAZING!!! I LOVE THIS!! This is one of my favorite songs and this video goes perfect with it! I always thought that this song should have some kind of visual showing the gruesome, perverse subject matter of the song. And I think you did a great job doing it!

  • Is this the actual video for the song or something put together by a fan now?

  • Done by a REALLY BIG FAN ! :-)

  • 20 years before cronenberg, a nobody named daniel miller read crash/concrete island by j.g. ballard and under the rubric of THE NORMAL quickly composed this pseudo-no-wave disco sleeper hit 'Warm Leatherette'. Mute records was started with the proceeds and pop music in the late 20 century has never been the same. Not bad for something 'accidental', even if we all want to kill mother fucking depeche mode.

  • Not all of us want to kill "mother fucking" depeche mode. I think the music industry owes alot to them. I was around, tripping and having a great time, back in the 80's scene. It would have been much bleaker without Mode.

  • pardon a nobody Daniel miller is very close friend of mine But warm leatherette is a classic tune where ever I Dj timeless at least I still fill the dance floor as DJ with this classic Could you If you DJ-ED ???

  • A great fusion of an INCREDIBLE song and some interesting 'cautionary' 50s footage. Some how this has to get sent to David Cronenberg.. can anyone say 'Crash- Director's Cut?

  • Dude I've seen my share of shit in real life. 3rd battalion 1st Marines. and I was'nt "Gawking".

  • disturbing, well done

  • The video is unfair to the auto industry. Safety is blown way out of proportion and it costs automakers an ungodly ammount of money and does nothing because cars are already safe. There is no "safety" problem. Please support automakers and ignore car crash tests that are trumped up to show structures failing. It's the imports that are putting out these misleading crash tests. Boycott consumer groups and vote to ban the IIHS tests. Think about the economy and not yourselves for once.

  • Dumbass capitalist. Think about the human cost and not the finances behind it, that's the real importance. And image is still too important to people, that and the oil industry, safety and fuel economy are much more noble and worthwhile.

That said, a decent vid, though I thought it was actually kinda insensitive. And the Reznor/Peter Murphy/Geordie White version of the song is A LOT better!

  • No... the original song is better... obviously. But then again I was clubbing when it came out. Lots of twisted memories... Don't get me wrong, I am a big Reznor fan and a big Murphy fan (again.. obviously) but The Normals did a better job.

  • they should play that 5 times a day on public tv. road fatalities would drop by 10000%

  • ya cause nobodies driving XD

  • crappy song but not as gory as I thought

  • nine inch nails covered it with the singer from bauhaus, if you dont like that one, i cant help you

  • brilliant video. it's a concept that I'm sure has been thought of, but it's nice to see someone actually see it through.

    Danny would be proud.

  • interesting video

  • Tks for posted...this video show us about the speed or alcohol while you drive...that accidents are very sicks...but we need to make concience and have your five sences when you start a car

  • I'm sure in the 50's that was pretty gross. But I think shit is worse now when you see car accients!!!

Further more those cars back in the day were tanks of metal compared to the cars of today!

  • Wow. not as gory as i was hoping tho...
