  • I would love to meet Leo some day. My goal is to create something like him eventually. =)

  • I wish we humans could stop wasting so much energy squabbling and trying to blow each other up. We can do the most amazing things when we work together!

  • i can do it faster.

  • wait im trying to figure out how they made the robot see in color and not in grey idk if he actually saw the colors or if they just told the robot wht was wht and also how did they get it to be this smart i thought robots had to be controlled not learn these things

o and someone from M.I.T. TELL ME THESE QUESTIONS

  • @scullbashnash there are things called color sensors... even LEGO robots have them... :-/.. u don't need MIT for e'thing... :-/

  • @orko Robots actually don't have consciousnesses like a human though, do they? Basically, it's like they're in a dream state being controlled by something else. Nothing more than moving parts working together.

  • pre-version of Skynet :>

  • @chr1z0r Lol, cute animal like robots will take over the world!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is not fake. Did they really do this. No remote control or anything like that. Because I felt with the reactions..This thing was alive...sluggish but wanting something...almost like it was in pain doing the experiment.

  • @dmusiken Yes, they did. It's MIT - they can do anything :p

    Here's leo's page on mit.edu:

    robotic(dot)media(dot)mit(dot)edu/projects/robots/leonardo/overview/overview.html

  • god, I can't even imagine how many billions of lines of code this must be...

  • The robot learned what all buttons meant and successful turned on them on

Is this a form of state learning where new states are added to the network and the robot learns by command how to process the state. Turn on the green button verses all buttons

  • its a slow learner its like a baby

  • poor little robot - it just wants to do the right thing...

  • if he press the wrong butten the woman would punch him

  • soo cute

  • OMGGG THE ROBOT'S SOO CUTEE ;3

  • It looks sad when it looks up at her and then back down at the buttons.. Anyways it'd be awesome to teach it how to punch random people!

  • woooow its sooooo cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what a robot! :L or not....

    ***

  • Freakin awsome dude i want one :P

  • Soo cute....may be next generation Robo Pets will have Leo's capabilities.

  • Leo do you know how to kill a man? *Leo nods no*

I can teach you to kill a man!

The robot uprising... it's nearly upon us.

  • for all u religious people out there....when AI is created will it have a soul? oh wait...only humans r special enough to have a soul....no animals...no other creature just humans....kinda self righteous we r huh?

  • Oh this guy... haha. Thumb up.

  • @imnotsmartbutimtryin Not unless we program the robots a soul.

    void Soul();

    *Sarcasm*

  • i'de laugh if the robot puntched her when she turns the blue button off

  • Or gave her the finger like FUCK YOU! That was a dick move!

  • big ass furby

  • Today Leo, tomorrow Terminator!

  • Its so extremely creep! Why did they make it so creepy? It like looks at her and nods and hears what she says!

Could be that they programmed it to press the buttons in a specific order, just to fool everyone. Then again the fact that it can see the buttons is pretty impressive. Probably remote controlled. Skepticism aside, thats quite possibly the coolest and most amasing invention yet. Cant wait until Toys R Us gets a hold of leo. :D

  • @YCDPKLD I highly doubt it was remote controlled. If anything, it was using the visual cues from her to determine if what it was doing was 'correct' or not.

  • that is cool

  • screw you and your confusing facts!

  • I think a lot of people here are really missing whats so incredible about this robot. What's so incredible is his ability to extrapolate tasks based on information. He already knew how to turn on buttons, and using only this fact, the robot was able to learn the meaning of "turn all buttons on," even when more buttons were added. By conventional computer logic, and the way the information was taught, a regular computer would assume the group "all buttons" consisted of only red and green.

  • Of course it doesen't understand english. It just recognizez the voice using "sound waves", If she would have yelled at him "PRESS THE RED BUTTON" it wouldn't had done anything, tho' it's the same sentence/same order given.

  • I'm skeptical about this. I don't think it's quite as sophisticated as the video would lead us to believe. I don't believe it can actually understand English, for instance. That sort of thing can't be done yet.

  • Kinda cute the way he gets ready to press the button, then pauses, looking up at the speaker as if to say: "Are you watching? I'm gonna do it!"

  • or as if to ask: "Am I doing it right?"

  • my god

  • haha! Thats the best thing Ive heard all night!

  • Cuteeeee :)

  • this video is used in an article in the New York Times, called "the Real Transformers" its pretty awesome article. and I have to read this for an exam. but i love these robots so cool

  • This robot is very cool

  • I love MIT. MIT has being the only one who really has done progress on this kind of behavior, where the japanese fails at it 80 % of the time. The japanese say, our robots can walk, big Fucking deal, its like having a retard walk, no use what so freaking ever ! MIT is great at it, they came a long way since 2005. They made a huge leap in 2006. Now they newest projects are even better.

  • Their going to take over the world.. with red, green and blue buttons! Very good..

  • Is `s somewhere to buy?

  • w000000000t so dammmmm cute

  • this thing could probably make it through our public school system

  • amazing!

  • A Learning Robot.. Damn.. Thats completely awesome!!

Can't wait to see it in a couple of years.. (Yes i realise this movie was posted 06) and why can't i Find any more vidios with Little Leo??

  • it was a little slow but that is still pretty cool.

    It looks like a mogwai.

  • It looks like Gizmo.

  • There is no god.

  • WTF is wrong with you, what at3buell said is true there's no God!

  • Oh an idiot who can't type properly is calling me a "dumbass" haha I laugh at you, go ahead and believe in that bullshit but keep in mind you're contributing to global ignorance, you fucking fag!

  • dude, your going to hell and you contribute nothing to soceity, just so you know your probably going to hell if you dont shape up. so screw you you have no life

  • Still believing in fairytales aren't ya? And WTF was that about society? so the Pope contributed more to society than Stephen Hawking did? I pity you for being such a an ignorant ass.

  • It's the fight between a god freak and an atheist, that argue the same points no matter which way the conversation drifts.

  • There is a god and you will be judged for what u just said, you stupid idiots who think a bomb created you and sht!

  • Just wait 5 months and then I'll reply to your last comment (i'm too retarded to reply within a week or 2) lol

  • juts so you know again there is a god

  • this is pretty awesome...

now they just need to work on

Leo's speed! I can't wait to see the

    completed version of Leo

  • awasome

  • its movements were a bit slow, but its well kwl

  • actually i want a robot like Data from Star Trek. best robot ever. youd think he was human if not for his white skin.

  • It's not white... it's a pale skin.

  • Data's pale and white...

  • IT blinks because human's subconscious tells the alert conscience that theirs something wrong with the object that they're interacting with. Blinking turns that off in people and they feel more at ease.

  • It looks like a Grimlin- maybe a mix between Gizmo and those mean ones?

  • Exactly what I thought! lol^^

Same face! Big eyes and BIG ears!

  • why does it blink?

not really any purpose i guess...

  • possibly to make it more lifelike?

  • LOL kowhaidusk, so true!! more like at 3:34, though...

  • Don't you reckon Leo was just about to lunge at her when she interfered with his buttons. That evil and long 6 second stare at 3:30 - the machines are biding their time, i swear!!

  • This is CRAZY! I don't know if the stare was really evil or just confused, but it's so funny! Very impressive, what robots can do today.

  • this is AMAZING!Is gizmo... i mean i s leo REALLY a robot or is it a remote controlled mechanical robot looking puppet?

  • OK whatever you do, DO NOT FEED IT AFTER MIDNIGHT, or god help us all

  • cant they just face it that they will never create a robot with even 25% of the human capasity

  • can't they just face it that they will never create a machine that can fly like a bird

  • And there were people hundreds of years ago that doubted the flight of man, but look how that went because people pushed on against the grain and made it happen. ;)

  • I WANT LEO!

  • It looks lika a gremlin! From that movie, gremlins! Or a furby or something! it's so cute! I kind of feel proud of it. Which is kinda stupid.

  • i bet someone is controling it from some other place. but if this is real, robots will soon be teaching the teachers.

  • Nah. MIT isn't going to outright lie for no reason; they have nothing to gain. If it were some kind of competition for millions of dollars, I'd maybe see your point, and guess it'd be possible.

  • like the moon landing.... jk

  • Amazing. Good to see videos of how A.I development is going. Good work indeed =)

  • ¡Impresionante! Aunque quizás sea más espectacular por el movimiento de los ojos, que simula bien las expresiones humanas de comprensión, etc.

  • in fact the three lights seem like the nodes of an artificial neural network, like ICA and those things.

and its probly programmed in some similar way that robot. our annihilation wont be that way, probly we will destroy ourselves before.

    nice tho.

  • They could make it look a little less scary...

Anyway, looks really cool! The begin of our end :)

  • Read the book "Mind Children" by Hans Moravec. Suggests that we are in a sense creating the seeds of an eventual new kind of lifeform that will surpass human beings in the far future. That or perhaps coexist if we don't destroy ourselves first.

  • soon they will be learning EVERYTHING... and teaching it all to other robots... it's the beginning of the Terminator movies!

  • holy.... crap...

  • yeah... amazing!!

  • INCREIBLE QUE NADIE COMENTE ESTO!.
