eddie technically wasnt a member of the band. it was put together as a one album project in tribute to andrew wood. cornell was his roommate and they were all his close friends. eddie came in right as they were doing this and helped back up the vocals on hunger strike.
Take away the blazing guitars and the brooding Metal atmosphere, you have a soul song plain in simple. Chrs Cornell has always been a soul singer to me and this song exemplifies this especially with that gospel like chorus: Reach down and pick the
@MindFuLL Word. Chris uses Soul/Gospel chord progressions in lots of his songs. Combine it with the heavy psychedelic, bluesy guitars and it just works perfectly. At the end of the day, It's all African music one way or another... Check out a documentary called Bela Fleck; throw down your heart, you'll hear blues, gospel and soul in the tribal music they play. Roots Rock fo sho!
when pits were true. it was all about feeling the music. then people just did it just to say so. and idiots would start fights cuz they didn't get what it was about. and fred douche ruined them for good at lolla 1999.
chris cornell was the mastermind behind every album he was ever even a part of, all eddie vedder can do is sing, and although he can do it well, he isn't as good of a musician as chris
First of all, thats not true about Eddie. Second of all, its not good to take over, because then you would be conceited and arrogant (which Chris isn't btw) And Chris didn't even write all the songs on this album.
Actually yes, all the songs from temple of the dog were written by chris, as well as most of the songs by soundgarden. Chris is much moer the talented musician, he wrote a lot of the music to a lot of his songs, eddie vedder isn't really a musician at all, just an exceptional singer(not as good as chris-See birth ritual nothing to say and hands all over to start if u wish to argue) and lyricist.
nonono...in pearl jams early stuff like ten he had a really good powerful baritone...the only guy that sounded like him at that time was scott weiland...scott stap does sound like him but Eddie sings with much more emotion
I don't think weiland even sounds like eddie, except on plush. most of the songs on core have their own distinct sound. and the 2nd STP album is just jaw droppingly good and original
yeah, but i think weiland and vedder both have a better melodic sensibility for hooks, making really memorable songs. i mean put it this way. Mark Lanegan's voice does not have much range at all, but his songwriting and musicality is incredible. and what do we have from chris? fuggin Billie Jean
lol, i have never heard cornell's "billie jean" cover and although i could click onto it right now, i've absolutely no desire to hear it. why would you wanna cover a song made by a pedo anyway? he fell off, doesn't do those screams like he used to. when is soundgarden getting back together? all these supergroups and reunions...no soundgarden. vedder can write, i'll give him that but weiland's become an embarrassment. he fell into the drum kit at a show not 2 long ago and cancelled on tampa.
weiland? yeah, he was a good writer. i recently read that he's trying to punk out on his recording contract now. he has 3 albums left to make and he says, "i don't think i have it in me." i said, "ok, give me or the 1,000,000's who want your job a chance. you'd be replaced faster than my used toilet paper before the next wipe." =)
sorry but i'll pass. chris knows who his fans are, he just doesn't pay attention to them anymore. he called his new record "scream" because he knows that what he got famous for. i even listened to the song "scream" and by the end of it, i was like, "where are all the fuckin screams, man?" there's singers with his range these days and there should be. chris isn't using it anyway...
layne owned all of them. the demos are even better than the released stuff, makes you wonder what else these record companies hide in their vaults. if we didn't have the internet, i'd never get to hear any of that shit. one thing about alice in chains, not a lot of their songs sounded the same.
Fluttergirl1, Thank you. If you were at this show, you may have witnessed the greatest rock show of all time, in my humble opinion. If I was stranded on a desert island and could take only one CD, it would be Temple. Thanks again.
Did Stoney play some leads along Mike in the studio version, or did Mike overdubbed it later?

i'll agree with that, he's just an old dumb scene kid now, just a loser. but I think from core to tiny music, he could REALLY write songs.
I think he kind of got pulled into his own idea of rock n roll cliches, which is never good.

want2rock247 3 years ago
Not really.
There might be one or two with his range but NONE with the raw power that he injects into every note in his range.
kman0529 2 years ago 4
i'm not that sure. Especially his deep range on songs as 4th of July impresses me every time.
I got no problem to reach the same high notes as chris does, that's just a question of technique, but the deep ones are unreachable for me.
Well yeah his power is also unbelievable.
grungeera 2 years ago
oh yeah. to me the only one that came close was andrew wood himself. and the only one who did it better was freddie mercury.
