@TheStandofTheLastGuy And i think that if the World was still in the state of Empires that it was before WW1 made the map so bloody complicated, it would be a simpler place.
@Isildun9 The problem is that all empires collapse eventually either through corruption or good old-fashioned entropy (when the system can no longer sustain itself through lack of resources). Co-operation is really the only sensible way forward, it's just a shame that humans aren't very good at it - and indeed the one time it was tried it was perverted by the people at the top into an empire - which also collapsed.
@TheStandofTheLastGuy I fully agree, I'm in the military and I'm very proud of my British military heritage its such a shame we have fallen in to such a poor state suckling off the tit of America. Also the uniforms back then where so amazing puts my uniform to shame.
funny fact major lennox was the commander of the 78th highlanders.. i'm from halifax nova scotia and the 78 th highlanders were the highland regiment at the halifax citadel! awesome!!!!
You have to give Sean Bean credit. Most actors are lucky if they are defined by one character in their careers. Bean has Richard Sharpe, Boromir, and Ned Stark. William Shatner has played dozens of characters over the decades but will only be remembered as James T. Kirk (with apologies to Denny Crane). Bean's got a whole chestful of characters to define him. That's a real actor.
@Shadowman4710 Then again, those are all virtually the same character. He plays a particular character very well. He knows how to do that character. I love him to death, but I would like to see some variety in his acting. Even in this Sharpe series, his response to any stimulus is either to yell at it or do a kind of weird puppy-dog look like he doesn't quite understand or is new to the situation. It gets a little old in later episodes. I'd like to see the main character evolve and learn some.
@Florentineblue I would argue that Boromir is a somewhat different character than Sharpe or Ned Stark but it's a fair point. However, if you want to see the man do something completely different, check out a little film called Red Riding: 1974, part of a trilogy set in the north of England during the period of the Yorkshire Ripper. He's absolutely terrifying in it.
Can anyone tell me what happened to the Chosen men? Their numbers went down to 3? Excluding Harper and Sharpe. That was what I saw in Sharpe's Battle and Perkins died and there were down to 2. What happened to the rest? Did I get lost anywhere?
Would anyone know of a site that would compare the price of things today compared to the price of things in a given year? Like these men, if I get it right, were paid 40 shillings to sign up. Comparing the cost of living today to yesteryear what would it be? How many shillings to a pound today and what it can buy compared to 1809 and what it would buy then? It often bugs me that I don't get what people are being offered in these times like Pat being offered 100 pounds to betray his king?

@brent98 John Tams added a couple of verses to what is in fact a very old song. The military version goes back to around 1700 at least, maybe earlier. There's an even earlier Scottish version where the last line goes "The wind has blown my plaid away"
I think my favourite part of this series are the commentors. One person says something rude and offensive, and everyone responds calmly and politely. It's incredible!
Correct. The Eagle was fought for and won at the request of a dying officer. Nothing needs to be celebrated. Other than to leave the Eagle on Major Lennox's grave as requested.
The shame of losing the Colors (though it was not the fault of Lennox) has been wiped clean in essence. His honor as an officer, given his past in India, remains intact.
Putting all small political and personal petty differences aside, look at this, a Canadian, Australian, an Englishman and an American. We are all close allies and brothers in arms and if any one of your countries were attacked I would be first in line to fight and maybe die to stop an aggressor. For the honor!
@Rikki0 god bless the viet cong, real men who made real sacrifices for REAL causes, shove your semper fi up your fucking hole the vietnamese ran ye out of it
Righto lesson in reasoning, you fuck......a 'non-sequitor' is a form of 'illogical fallacy', an illogical fallacy is based upon either wrong reasoning or piss poor argumentation.......I wasnt arguing anything, and my reasoning was aimed at expressing both, that Goerge Bush was a man without honor, and that you are an idiot.
Dont worry your not the only far right blowhard to feign intelligence, speaking of which heres an excellent source for illogical fallacies - Bill Orielly.
Logical fallacies are by their nature illogical, so I understand your confusion.
Also, I think you'd have a hard time arguing that George bush was a dishonourable man. You could disagree with his policies, but you and I know little of his character outside of government. It is not befitting a gentleman to slander another without evidence.
@MajBlood They've never chosen 007 based on acting talent alone, but on overall image of the actor. Still you have to admit that Sean Bean as 006 did make for an interesting character, makes you wonder what his take on 007 would be like.
@Hawkes10112 Yeh because Daniel Craig is the first thing you think of with his blonde hair. Honestly man, image has nothing to with it. They never try and make the actor match Bond's appearance in the novels.
@MajBlood Image as in the publics overall perception of him, not his apperance. Take actors like Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan, both had been big hits with the public with their previous TV shows and had showed they could pull of being charming and a ladies man quite easily, pretty much what people expected of Bond..
Main reason to why so many were against Daniel Craig, he didn't quite have that "Bond" image most people picture, same with Dalton, and both brought a lot to the character.
@Hawkes10112 Nonsense, you yourself said both Craig and Dalton did it without being big actors before yet you say that is the reason Bean would not be Bond? And don't forget, Sean Connery, the biggest Bond of all, was unknown before he was cast.
@TitusTheShibaInu Aye and as such Alec was one of my favorite Bond villains. What I wish is that they'd revisit the idea of Bond versus a rogue 00. That would be need.
@saborknight He plays Lt. Gibbon, the officer who duels with Sharpe near the end of the film. He's very young in this since it was done in the early 90's.
