For all we know, time travel has been discovered, people screwed with it and changed history, then some rebellion stole it and fixed history to how it was, and destroyed the time machine. And we wouldn't have even known a thing.
There is no way time travel is possible. If so it needs to be done in enough time before we destroy everything possible to get it done so we can go back and fix a few things in history 1st. Like stopping the development of the federal reserve, and stopping the assassination of Kennedy. That's the only way to fix with what's wrong with the most important thing going on and that's the here and now. But even if that gets done, man will find a way to screw things up again.

In the future if they were to perfect time travel then from that point on when the machine is first turned on then that is the furthest point you can go into the past. So in essence, there will no trips to the 80's or dinosaur times for future time travelers.

@albertocl2 Well, if the theory of alternate timelines is correct then that last question is simple: everywhere but here. If I was to travel into the past, I'd end up on an alternate past (because in our past I didn't come back from the future now, did I) where my appearance is an inherent part of the timeline. This is why nobody from the future ever pops up here. (that's just my idea. I believe traveling into the past is impossible, as time only ticks forward, as comfirmed by relativity)

Let's say you could time travel. The Universe is expanding. The Galaxy rotates. The Earth orbits the sun. If you suddenly jumped even 10 minutes forward or backward in time you wouldn't be anywhere NEAR this planet. I'd consider that a problem.

Back in the days of propeller aviation if you told anyone we'd be walking on the moon many people would be quick to call it impossible. i would like to ask him something...
the best way know to bend space to produce the desired support to the experiment is gravitation, Einsteins formula tell us that you can create mass from energy. before you have enough energy to bend space you would create a corp with mass (made out of that condensed energy) so probably making a hole in a big block of plutonium would be your best chance to produce such a tunnel trough time... but eve that wasn't enough...

Let's say you could time travel. The Universe is expanding. The Galaxy rotates. The Earth orbits the sun. If you suddenly jumped even 10 minutes forward or backward in time you wouldn't be anywhere NEAR this planet. I'd consider that a problem.

@madis342 Maybe, but it isn't fair to say it's not possible until it's proven to be impossible. Back in the days of propeller aviation if you told anyone we'd be walking on the moon many people would be quick to call it impossible. Maybe his way will never work or maybe time travel will never work.. but this is a new area of interest for scientists. 20 years ago scientists wouldn't even touch this issue.

Although people babble cab about time machines, the truth is that before time travel is possible we must know more about the nature of time besides Einstein. The method of linear concordance referred to be Mallett is similar to that exhibited in the movie "Primer." Additionally, I have done extensive research on Time Travel and typically the biggest argument against it is that there is no evidence for time travel because there are no visitors from the future, however, this explanation given by Mallett perfectly accounts for that. Additionally, most of the vast majorities of philosophical paradoxes can be rationalized and overcome.

@wolfpackmre i can see how time travel to the future is possible but for the past there can arise many problems. such as shooting your younger self. got to love paradoxes. i love the theory that you aren't actually going back in time but u are simply going to a different universe that is at a younger stage. like going and killing hitler in the bast the traveling back to only find out nothing has changed in history because it happened in the other universe. a multi-universe fixes all paradoxes.

But let me put it to you this way, getting the money to build a time machine that is "proven" to work is easy as hell. "Hey wallmart want to be known as the company that funded the time travel experiment" lol shit yeah so. to be honest this is sort of a fail, focus on the present and accept that past :)
