  • I want to move to Iran and marry my love Soraya!I want to live in Iran,Los Angeles is getting boring for me.

  • Well spoken. The Iranian professor is really good. I'm surprised that for once NBC allowed an alternative voice to be broadcast.

  • fuck jomoriye eslami fuck mullas, fucka ahmadinejad, i fuck khomeini, burn his grave!!

  • FUUCKKK YEAHHHH BROOOO

  • i swear just like ahmadinejad. in the iranian media, they always address him as 'Doctor', what damn doctor? what qualification does he have, he boasts that his ranking for some university exam was right up there, then in that case he should be educated in his speech.

  • Doctor.....Bullshit. That guy is one of those regime turds.

  • With ya brotha. Screw the regime fuckers.

  • How fkn old are you man?

A Doctor is simply someone who holds a doctorate degree, the highest degree possible.

You can have a doctorate in law, physics, science, philosophy, anything virtually.

It doesn't mean your a practitioner of medicine

  • You idiot, i know that, what i meant was that the place he got his degree, is bullshit, his doctorate is not accepted in any country outside of Iran, also im guessing he only got to do that course ahead of a million others who actually deserve, because his daddy is some mullah.

  • well true, he probably is the son of some Akhoond

but it doesn't mean he didn't study for it

  • Matt lauer is himself a freaking far left liberal journalist,

  • Man this is the biggest BS I've ever heard.

  • it's refreshing to see an iranian speaking good english and presenting a balanced viewpoint on american television

  • a vast number of iranians speak english at a very advanced level. Iranians are very highly educated.

  • not many appear on american television though and articulate a balanced viewpoint

  • I've noticed how much Iranians not only try to master English, but eliminate any trace of an accent. This isn't something you see with any other culture. Persian pride maybe? I often have trouble detecting an Iranian accent because they hide it so well.

  • Do any of you actually think that this guy will say what's really on his mind (setting aside the fact that he may believe what he's spitting here) given his formal capacity as a PROFESSOR??? If Lauer was searching for clichés, this "interview" cinches it.

  • FUCK you Dr. mohmmadi ,you are a fucking Akhoond mother fucker( Mother Jendeh ),I don't care what USA is thinking or will do , but your days are numbered

  • He looks exactly as a child of Akhoond, or he is getting paid for talking to Matt

  • hey.. fuck you doctor..

  • Who the fuck is this son of ayatolla?

    FUCK ISLAM

  • hell ya fuck um

  • Yes He is freaking Akhoond himself.

  • I can't tell you how many times, me and baba were watching the news when they had Iran on there , and they translate what they are saying in Farsi, its bullshit they mix up the words sooooo much pretty dumb huh?

  • that sayyed is soooooooooooooooo wrong he is probly a mullah

  • Yes, Matt quickly changed the conversations when it gets to the points that Iranian speaks about the facts that US don't like it.

I like the way he explained the Iran's policy against. That was the correct translation that US media never broadcast.

By the way, both of these guys are American ;) hehe, the guy was born & raised in Virginia.

    Great video =)

  • Fuck that fact , no matter what is USA thinking , Akhoonds are always a MOTHER FUCKER ( MADAR JENDEH )------------THIER DAYS ARE NUMBERED, FUCK THE IRANIAN ISLAM , DEATH TO THIS REJIM OF OPPRESSOR--Akhoonds are very semilar to American gays--fuck the fucking Khamenie

  • Inshallah we'll overthrow this fucking disgusting Arab/Islamic Republic too

    JAVID SHAH

  • why javid shah? we don't need another dictator over our heads, we want democracy. we want a country where if a woman wants to be covered, she can. shah! we need a democratic republic. but to be honest i don't think we'll achieve it anytime soon, even if this regime is overthrown, don't you see it's all about money. as my bf often says, akhunda be shah goftand ta hala to mikhordi, hala nobate mast! it's the same with the next regime!

  • Yeah did the Shah force all women to be covered?

Your living in a fantasy world. You can't have everything your way.

The Shah had problems yes, but at least he was a true patriot who loved his country and only wanted the best for it.

And don't give me crap about SAVAK or anything like that.

The Islamic Republic makes SAVAK look like angels.

  • hey matt, why did you change the subject when it was about iranian power and all that? lol

  • i dunno they shouldnt go and ask his opinion..even if he disagrees with the govt he can't say anything bad..or theyll come after his ass..and yeah maybe a mullah lover with that name and a seyed ...lol

  • MATT is great

  • WOW "diva" LOL THOUGH I AGREE WITH SOME OF WHAT YOU SAY, BUT SINCE WHEN HAS A BEARD BEEN A SIGN OF A MULLAH? BEFORE MULLAHS EXISTED, BEFORE ISLAM EXISTED THE GREATEST MEN IN TEH WORLD HAD BEARDS, CYRUS THE GREAT, DARIUS THE GREAT, XERXES, SHAPUR....BEARDS ARE THE SIGNS OF KINGS, LOOK INTO IT. oh and Dr Mirandi is saying things that are true, I agree. By the way just so you know I want the mullahs out sooo badly so dont be be throwing any mullah lover charges at me,differencebeingImdoingsomething

  • Yeah a total mullah lover... look at the beard, a clear sign of the mullah lover. Who is his family... a mullah family. Iraq is full of Iranians setting up their client state as they did with the Hesbollah. This dude is mouthpiece for the regime and will end up in a political appointee soon. These apoligists for this corrupt and repressive anti-human regime. Nobody will tell the truth on camera... especially with their name on the screen. Total Lackey! He will get his someday.

  • Good work.

  • hahah what a spokesman ?!!

  • fascinating video

i hope very soon we start open talks with US ,becuz they deserve as much as we deserve inter-relationships

    may God bless Iran

    may God bless AMERICA

  • Well said Doc. people this administration is creating this hatered against the Iranian people. I also heard this from more than one Persian speaking people, that part of problem with Their president speaches that are transalted wrong

  • they dont hate each other...they done belive on each other side religios progress!!

  • i agree with mousavi007, they dont hate each other.. I have many friends and half of them are Sunnis while I'm a shia,

The important thing is that we all believe in one God, "Allah". Why make it a big deal :S

  • Learn how to write first before you make a comment...sorry you probably won't understand that statement so I'll put it in your form. Learn righting first 4 you coment. practial

  • Great clip. Only a neocon could hate this.

  • Dr Marandi, son of a former MInister of Health and Medical Care, is a memeber of a very closed circle of the privileged Islamists close to the government. I am just wondering why the NBC correspondents have chosen this person as the spokesman for the Iranian people!!!

  • He is right in that much of what Iranian president said has not been translate incorrectly.

  • How can a photograph of the man who is currently president of Iran being involved in a terrorist activity be translated incorrectly?

  • People always getting into such shouting matches in the comments posted after a youtube video. Remember, the audience for this Matt Lauer special are Americans who mostly don't know anything about Iran other than the takeover of the American embassy. With that in mind, I don't think this was a bad show if all it does is show to Americans that Iranian people in Iran are not as scary or as culturally isolated as most Americans think they are.

  • I'm not so sure about that. If you read previous comments, you will see that some of them come from Iranians.

The Islamic republic got mediatic infiltrators speaking perfect English. One of them, in Sweden, got busted by the secret police and got his ass deported back to Iran. :)

  • @razzyruh,

I agree on that. The message if only meant for Americans isn't that bad. But considering these IRI baasijis here trying to make a political point with this is not acceptable. Because we know how Iran is from inside. Since Ahmadinejad the censorship, crackdowns on the street and universities has become much much worse. Thats a fact.

  • marmary5555

I know that a lot of the people commenting and debating here are Iranian. Most Iranians know what it's really like in their country; while Iran is not as backwards as a lot of Americans think, it's also not as free/democratic as this show would have you believe. But I think it's important for non-Iranian Americans to understand the world around them better and I think that this show can help them have a more nuanced understand of Iran.

  • razzyruh

absolutely, I agree. If this show could show that Iranians aren't a bunch "camel jockeys", "desert bedouins/sand niggers" or al qaida terrorists, then fine. But I mostly regret that some users on youtube blindly defend basijs. that's all :)

  • so many infiltrators/IR-agents in the comment section here... it's amazing.

  • What do the Americans think? They think they just can go to Iran and interview people and they would say what they really think? You guys have no idea whats going on in Iran. All these people talking are risking being arrested. Some of the girls were very courageous saying those things but they cannot comment on politics. Dr Marandi has to repeat everything what Regime wants or he gets fired and arrested. Same with the Business guy from first video.

  • While I'm certain that members of the public have to be very careful what they say to foreign crews, I can assure you that Dr Marandi is sincere in his statements (and that he is not in danger of being fired when he criticises the current Government).

If Dr Marandi is wrong/misguided in his analysis of Iranian politics/society, then why not offer a specific challenge and critique?

  • Are you Iranian? Because I am and I know what is happening there. You are saying Dr Marandi would not be arrested if he said something else? What happened to Prof. Hashem Aghajari when he criticized the Clerics in Iran? He was sentenced to death or not? Are you a Mullah supporter or just blind?

  • Actually I am a mullah. And I am blind (although I have a very nice dog).

Leaving that aside, the issue of freedom of expression of Iran is a very serious one. To claim that no Iranian who speaks publicly is expressing his/her true opinion, rather than speaking for the Government, is just as unhelpful as claiming that all Iranians are free to speak on all issues without fear of consequences.

  • To be constructive, how about one example? Dr Marandi asserts that most Iranians believe that the Iranian Government is not supporting the Iraqi insurgency. Given that the Iraqi Government has emphasized this, this seems a fair point. So could it be that the Doctor is setting out a point that needs to be considered alongside the US Government's charges of Iranian deceit and treachery?

  • very constructive. Very nicely you have tried to avoid my example about the death sentence of Prof. Hashem Aghajari because he dared to criticize the Mullahs publicly. All these people who speak officially in front of camera - with name and tile - HAVE to be careful what they say.

  • Professor Aghajari's case is one of great concern. Twice lower courts sentenced him to death, twice this was overturned by the Supreme Court before he was eventually sentenced to three years' imprisonment with two suspended.

His "crime", criticising the notion of supreme clerical leadership coming between the people and God, is one of the key issues being debated by many outside and, yes, inside Iran.

  • Aghajari's "crime", criticising the notion of supreme clerical leadership coming between the people and God, is one of the key issues being debated by many outside and, yes, inside Iran. The concern over his death sentence was reflected in protests inside the country, Ayatollah Khamanei's intervention, and President Khatami's representation on his behalf.

All of which offers a more complex picture of Iran than the sweeping claim that no one ever speaks freely there on any political issue.

  • In Iran the clerics rule as the messenger between God and people. Whoever dares to criticize this connection will be in problem. We have had many arrests of student leaders and opposition inside Iran in the past 10 years, who spoke officially against the regime. Akbar Mohamadi (died in prison), Manucher Mohamadi, Fakhravar the list wont fit here if I continued. Besides oppression of teacher and worker movements and trying to stamp everyone who dares to say anything as a spy of the West.

  • ...The recent Iranian-Americans who were detained for no reason for over 110 days. What is that in your eyes, freedom?

  • No, which is why I --- and many others --- protested publicly and privately. And many in Iran --- within the "system" as well as critics of it --- also challenged those detentions.

  • houmie! damet garm!

  • Khaahesh aghaa. Waghan bazi az inhaa gusaale be donyaa miyaan, Gaaw az in donyaa miran. Band kardan be charandiaati mesle Khamenei ro chetori spell karde. Harf sareshun nemishe baa maghlateh miyaan jelo.

They just want to sugarcoat the situation in Iran so that they can re-gain some proud in front of western people aka you see its not thaaat bad. Yeah of course but its also not that good as the video tries to sugarcoat it.

  • By the way, you speak like a politician who turn the topic into another way.

quote: "Aghajari's "crime", criticising the notion of supreme clerical leadership coming between the people and God, is one of the key issues being debated by many..."

So what what is your position? is this regime a dictatorship or not, when they put someone to death just because of his opinion? Ashghaal

  • There is a great deal of debate --- in seminaries, in law schools, in political elites, and definitely in private homes --- over the place of the clerical leadership in Iran's system.

That does not justify the treatment of Aghajari for expressing his position. But he was not put to death --- his sentence was reduced --- precisely because the Supreme Leader and the President, amongst others, challenged the lower court's ruling.

    Far from a dictatorship...

  • Oh yeah its a sign of a humanitarian system putting a person on death sentence in first place. This statement on its own alone shows the inhuman system of Iran. The fact that Iran is not in hand of one dictator is true. The power is divided between the Fuhrer Chamenei, President and other Mullah minions who play behind the curtain. Yes, this makes it not a totalitarian Dictatorship but a multi-pole Dictatorship yet they still dictate and force their views of Islam every day on the streets.

  • I respect your opinion on the Iranian system, even though I disagree with it. I do believe that there is a chance of engaging with Iranians to discuss and hopefully encourage political and social reform, rather than stoking the fires of conflict with talk of dictatorship.

    I wish you well.

  • Dude, I am Iranian. I grew up in that system. I know what it means to be arrested just for being out with few friends on the street. I know what it means to get star marks in your university file, because you are politically active. You are right Iran isn't as bad as the West is trying to show and yet it is not as good as these guys in the videos are trying to sugarcoat it. Iranian regime is a dictatorship but this doesn't make the hypocrites of Americans and British better. War is no solution.

  • Thank you houmie. U are a true Iranian!

I agree 100% with everything you say, and we all know that the regime is sending many of their infiltrators on youtube to make apologies for the atrocity of the Islamic republic.

  • I think the Iranian professor was absolutely fantastic and you guys just want the criminals in D.C. to attack Iran. This is the first time I've ever seen an Iranian perspective on NBC. The Neocon activist "houmie" knows so much about Iran that s/he even spelled Khamenei with a C!

  • Who cares about the spelling of CHAMENEI or khomeiny! Do you honestly think that ordinary Iranians care about them? Are you serious? After 28 years of misery, do you think that the proud and decent Iranian PEOPLE give a damn about their government who's constantly isolating them?

    lol

Wake up and smell the coffee! Nobody wants this regime and the professor's days as an Islamic apologist are counted.

  • Yek liwaan abe sard bokhor warame maghzet bekhaabe.

Who cares how I spelled a Mullah name? His starting letter doesn't even exist in English, so what? My Persian above was proof enough, gure Khar? Was the Kh spelled correctly this time? I dont even live in USA and if you would have read my last post, I said US/British hypocrites and said also War is no solution. Did you even read my previous post before giving your comment?

  • hey relax houmie, I was actually defending you and your views. lol

I replied to storeylas that said : "The Neocon activist "houmie" knows so much about Iran that s/he even spelled Khamenei with a C" (check previews posts)

  • Hi marmary5555, Sorry, somehow the reply didnt work. My reply to you was the one starting with 'Khaahesh aghaa...'. :) The one starting with 'Yek liwaan abe sard...' was targeted to

storeylas. Thank you for your support. Sometimes the comments in YouTube dont get sorted properly. I think its best to write the name of the person the post is targeted to as well on top to avoid these misunderstandings. Kind Regards

  • lol I imagined that :)

anyways, you and me and the rest of all Iranian people know that the days of the islamic republic are counted.

  • I hope their days are numbered. But I hope the government there is changed by Iranians themselves and not by American military action.

  • Every Iranian I have come across, and I have a wide circle of friends, assumes that the Tazi regime, what you are calling the Iranian government, is knee deep in Iraq, supporting all sides to undermine the US position, whilst the likes of Dr. Mirandi present the flag of piece.

  • Well, I've known Dr Marandi for six years and it's news to me that he has suddenly become a member of Hezbollah!

  • he also looks like one

    a typicall Islamic Republican

  • Yes, I think it is always helpful to judge important political issues on the basis of "how he/she looks"....

Then again, if Dr Marandi was a skillful "Islamic agent", wouldn't have have tricked American television by disguising his looks"? Perhaps a flowery Hawaiian shirt or some Levi 501s?

  • how about a shaved face?

:) that's the least they could do.

  • We are the Americans that the individuals in this piece have said to have respect for and we condemn them for not looking more like us? What about the non-shaved Americans such as: Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Ernest Hemingway, Robert E. Lee, Jim Morrison..just to name a few. And what about Jesus? Would it be more to your liking if he didn't have a beard and kept "a shaved face"? It seems you can have a beard and be taken seriously.

  • Perhaps we could advance liberation in Iraq by ordering all barbers to shave all their customers. This would set a fine example for Iran when we liberate it.....

  • bah... shaving a face is a matter of hygiene and hygiene is a basic civilized action.

I'm sorry, you can press as many rep buttons as u want (which btw will eventually get even), but a hezbollahi is still a hezbollahi in my eyes and other true Iranian's eyes.

  • look at the face of this guy he is a typical hezbollahi i am iranian and see this this guy is islamic agent

  • Exactly

They look dirty. The hezbollahis looks are drawing too much attention for people to really listen to their views. The only people taking them seriously are themselves and the basijis.

  • The Dr is telling the truth. The current admin in Washingtom is stuburn.

  • yes, and if that dr is telling the truth, then 1+1=6

  • MARANDI - Typical IR APPOLOGIST and a LIAR.
