@CreepyCrawlyCat Oh and just one more thing The "Kennedy's" line in Sympathy F.T.D., I believe was talking about our total mind numbing complacency in just believing the Warren Commission without question in the face of undeniable evidence proving other wise. Much like we did in almost all of the Reagan/Bush and Bush/Cheney Regime. And b.t.w. I'm not trying to be "cool and stuff" as you so eloquently put it, just aware of current affairs and mindful of history as to not repeat it. BY S.C.O.M.

@CreepyCrawlyCat !st of all I have "read up" his affiliation with H. at the most, did'nt want the USA to go to war for selfish business reasons on the other hand Prescott Bush (W. Bush's Granddad) was holding Nazi money for their war effort, in his bank in the 30's and 40's and was almost tried for treason because of his "affiliation with Hitler". As far as his Joe's daughter Rosemary the medical community had only advanced as far as lobotomy in severe cases such as R's. You read up cool guy!
@CreepyCrawlyCat 1st of all your not anymore than a blip on my radar so stop flatering yourself. 2nd its your kind of terminal ignorance that has us in the shape we're in. I'm a songwriter and admire many songwriters from the 40's up till now and never held much stock in the writing team of Jagger/Richards but I believe they wrote the most prolific commentary lyric of the last 70 years " I shouted who killed the Kennedys' when after all it was you and me" what do you think they meant? See Ya!
@CreepyCrawlyCat You have no educated idea of what your talking about! J.F.K was murdered because he would'nt continue The right wing agenda as Nixon, Ford, Reagan, H.W.Bush and W.Bush did and look where its gotten us? Not to mention J.F.K. was going to stop the federal reserve which along with the top 1% richest in the world own you and I. Do your homework bwfore you shoot you idealisting uneducated mouth off!
@CreepyCrawlyCat Correct me if I'm wrong, but Joseph P. Kennedy was not President and was rendered mute following a stroke just a few months after JFK took office. So what's your point?
Look, anyone comparing Richard Nixon to George W. Bush need to shut up. Nixon and Bush aren't alike at all. First of all, Richard Nixon oversaw the break-in and attempted theivery of the DNC. George Bush didn't steal any money nor did he try to from the DNC. Bush was not involved in the 9/11 attacks. Do your research, he wasnt.
That smile was actually Nixon briefly stepping out of the game, to admire Frost's performance. That same ability to look at the game from the outside then fed into Nixon's ultimate declaration in part 6 -- that he'd made a bad move, and his enemies had used it against him, just as he would have used such mistake against them.
Most other presidents, Republicans and Democrats, in office probably were engaged in some "crimes" one way or another. The difference is that the other presidents never got caught, and Nixon did.
@classicrocker2142 I completely agree when u think about his first term. he was a genius is foreign affairs with the vietnam war and china.. he handled all the revolutions well. he saved america from peril in the late 60's. i would say if it wasn't for his corrupt actions in the watergate scandal. he would have been considered one of the greatest presidents. he was so good before watergate.
Great line of questioning from David Frost...this is how a well prepared reporter scores a touchdown for his career but wow they paid so much to get it. This time check book journalism paid off for the American people.
shd be tot in every american highschool, to see this whole interview. mandatory for highschool, americans are ignorant and another nixon will come again
hm that's weird. the chronological order of the interview was in reverse. in the real interview the watergate issue was first taped but in the movie it was the last one they taped. it was in their 3rd interview when Frost asked Nixon about the legality of the president's actions. Nixon replied: "Well, when the president does it, that means that it is not illegal." then it was in their last interview that that Frost asked, "Why didn't you burn the tapes?"
They had the interviews in correct order. Nixon dominated Frost from the onslaught of the interview. The Watergate situation was broadcast first but the interview of it didn't happen first.
I just saw the movie for the first time on Hbo and you know it is a movie. They can take whatever privileges they want. Granted it was Ron Howard making the movie.
wow. sub prime mortgages weren't started until bush had been in office for years, in fact, bush got rid of the executive orders stoping credit card interest from going over 8 percent. 911 was because bush took an 8 month vacation a year after his presidency. he had spent more time on vacation than in office.
When I took office, our economy was beginning a recession. — G.W. Bush, 8/7/02
In terms of the economy, look, I inherited a recession, I am ending on a recession. - G. W. Bush, 1/12/09
@cedric1546 You could say Daddy Bush didnt end it the first time we were there. Clinton and Bush are not to blame for mortgage mess. When you buy a home, you might want to read the mortgage before you close and if you make $30000/yr, you have no business buying a $2-300000 house to begin with. Things are bad because WE made them bad.
my god...how stupid and non self thinker a person needs to became to think as you?
Watch out what model of jet turbine was planted in the pentagon and you'll see what kind of person was Bush....
Obama could be a great president, but in the land of the fearful, anything new and diferent is communism or socialism...c'mon the world has change!!..you are not rulling any more...
It's funny that you mention intelligence, because Nixon is apparently the smartest president we've ever had (according to IQ scores). Clinton is a close second.
@abaddon5: Nixon was extremely intelligent, but he wasn't very "smart"; that is what contributed to his downfall. I do agree that Clinton was a close second.
It's also interesting to note that Clinton turned to RMN for advice on foreign affairs.
A moron who was denounced in his senatorial campaign as a New England elite of the intelligentsia, who earned degrees from both Harvard and Yale. His folksy mannerisms were mostly an act. I'd suggest reading a good biography on the man. Try "The Bush Tragedy". The man was more con artist than moron.
You go by a bias movie, to determine if Nixon was corrupt? LOL.The Nixon/Frost interview went both ways. Both men got thier digs. Nixon in fact did inherit a war that he had nothing to do with. Yes he should have pulled our guys out, but he thought to at least give it one more try to see if we could win. And wategate was joke! Nixon just got caught for doing what both sides have been doing for years and still do to this day. LOL.. You want to know corruption, look into the Kennedy's... LOL...
I don't see how anyone could ever be worst then W. Bush. A complete idiot in every sense. No different then hitler when it comes to starting a war without just cause. Bush , Cheney , Rumsfeld , Wolffe , and the little gayboy adviser of his should have been on the frontlines with a weapon if they wanted iraq so bad . But they are all chicken hawks- cowards when it comes down to it. I hate them.
Bush was a complete idiot, but Nixon was true evil. Nixon was a brilliant politician and a very intelligent man. He was also a thief, a liar, a bigot, paranoid, and a very dangerous man. Bush was just an unqualified fuck-up. Nixon was a calculating monster. Bush may have been incapable, but I think he really did the best he could. He wasn't just trying to screw over anyone who opposed him. That's exacty what Nixon did and why he got into so much trouble. He was a true tyrant.
@STRANGEJAMES85 Nixon was the best foreign policy President we have had, he was a paranoid freak though. I am a moderate myself and compared to Obama, Bush is pretty damn good.
@Sellot91 - Haa is this a joke, read a book and find out why the world almost ended with the cuban missle crisis! Nixon blew of meeting Castro many times witch made Casto our enemy and is why they say he reached out to Russia, that crisis was Nixon`s fault! He blew Castro off and left JFK and rest of world to stress over! Obama? Ya guess your right, should have 8 yrs of Bush`s fuckups fixed in a yr? Shit! Gonna take 3 terms for anyone to fix Bush`s fuckups! 1 yr huh? Thats possible much?
@Sellot91 Yes Nixon did help with foreign policys after his Presidency was done, did good stuff after. Tryin to save his name, what you expect. Just like Carter did alot of good work after his term. Not uncommon for these ex Presidents to still have foreign friends they made during their terms and do alot of good things. Unless your a Bush, got millions, just sit on thier ass`s and sure all legal? Praise Nixon & Bush? God help us? And give Obama the same time u gave Bush to fuck this country!
he was probably the most seasoned and experienced man of the day with many aspects of government and foreign diplomacy. I was his paperboy on Key Biscayne and can see why he was called the Imperial President, overnight, literally ten foot hedges and iron fencing went up along bay lane...me and my buddy also used to go under the helicopter pad in a small dingy and smoke weed as the Secret Service guys were on the deck above lol. The national budget was balanced in '69 what a rockin' year!
Tricky Dicky..Oh how he would have had so much to answer for especially the Vietnam war..Money making at the cost of US civillians..But hey,we know this already.I'd like to hear what Obamas' view would be on Nixon!.
yeah illegally bombing Cambodia and parts of southern China was great diplomatic relations, and ignoring social crimes in places like South Africa, and West Africa was real Kick Ass as well. I can't argue with you on that.
I see. And Obama is a pacifistic for sending 30,000 troops in to Afghanistan? Bush was doing the Lord's work when he went into Irag. First of all, we're not the World Police, so it's not our duty to stop injustices around the world. If you think so, join the Armed Forces, grab a gun and have at it. When I say foreign relations, I of course mean with China and the Soviet Union. Nixon did his homework on those two issues. And I never said his illegal bombings were right nor did I agree.
It's interesting, because I'm an independent who leans left, but if I were to want a Republican -- it'd be Nixon. He was the last true Republican to hold the office of the President. Now, obviously, I don't agree with his wrongdoings, but I think he was fiscally responsible and didn't have the religious factions interfering. I'd vote for him if he ran today --if the Democrat was some spineless lib-lab that is.
i'd vote for him to, had he not ever done the wrong doing. but then again, i'd vote for any president had that not done anything i consider to be wrong doing...
funny isn't always interesting that all people who are centrists and far righters care about is whether they are fiscally responsible but they are never concerned whether a president is socially responsible. Ignore oppressed persecuted people as long we give the bankers the key to the safe regardless of what they always end up stealing.
Bankers bankers bankers. I don't agree with Wall Street, because the Republicans NOW are not responsible with spending, and the Democrats aren't either. I was simply saying that Nixon was the last old school Republican. Nowhere did I say I agreed with his social irresponsibilities. And nowhere did I say that I ignore oppressed people through osmosis of Nixon.
There's a difference between waging war through abuse of power, which he did, and foreign relations. Foreign relations with Nixon was about preparation and opening up trade to the East and checking Soviet powers. Was he wrong in almost wiping out an entire people? Yes. But I take it most of you are Americans, and we've done our share of killing and Indian hunting ourselves. I forget how pure and celibate all of you are.
War in what ever way occurs when ppl refuse to live in harmony with eachother. Saying that someone wiped out an entire people and then downgrading it by saying "so what, we've done our share of killing and Indian hunting ourselves" is in my opinion a childish way of not accepting either the fact that Nixon was wrong + that the ppl where wrong for following him on that subject and others.
And what do you mean by old school republicans?! I'ts the same ppl in my opinion. Just with more money and power. But I admit I might be wrong so pls do answer.
We can't mine enough gold to support the current circulation of money and during a time of economic crisis (now), we wouldn't be able to put money into the economy without devaluing the dollar. Check and mate? You lose.
You can't print money out of thin air without devaluing the dollar. This is exactly what The Fed does and exactly the reason we HAVE an economic crisis.
Fiscal responsibility isn't just spending, it's how we spend it. Now, will I agree that the issuances of fiat currency and fractional reserve banking is absurd, but it's which delusion you choose to indulge in. I choose the non-gold standard delusion.
The days of an American President having any real......real....influence over the domestic policies of this country are long over. The last president who made any substantial and REAL change once in office was Reagan. The change came with him almost over night. I'm not speaking as a Dem or Rep. It's just the new reality that businessmen control the domestic agenda of this country. Any new program that is initiated will only be watered own, a token change, meat for the dogs to keep them content.
What are we supposed to do about it though? My whole life I've had the same mentality as you. But I bought into Obama thinking here's somebody who doesn't have skeletons in his closet & can't be extorted and controlled. Clinton said that's what prevents any real change from happening. Basically blackmail. Well so far Obama hasn't lived up to his promises... things he said he'd do on day one. I'm beginning to wonder, is he just a better liar? I don't consider myself as stupid as most Americans.
Thats stupid. Theres been plenty of noble politicians over the years who have done great things for their countries. And as the electorate we have a right to ridicule those who don't keep to their promises
I love how impartial committees, books and organizations all have this supposed "liberal bias" to the right wing dumbass bigots. The truth hurts, kids... call it what you want.
What a horrible president. He made peace in Vietnam, unemployment was about 2%, the federal surplus was about 3 billion dollars, and he opened up diplomatic relations with China. Yeah, what a failure.
Absolutely. Clinton was a great prez. Unfortunately no one wanted to hear me say that when he was in office. My Democratic friends wanted me to be bitter and spiteful (like many of my fellow Republicans were during the Lewinsky scandal) I thought that whole "Monicagate" thing was a lot of nonsense. A few of my Repub "friends" were even worse. They were disappointed that I didn't want Clinton dead.
Yeah I thought it was a little over the top too. Unfortunately I've lived my entire life in the time when people can't wait to hear about that type of gossip. As far as I'm concerned a person's personal life isn't any of our business. I miss Clinton. He did so much good for this country and something in his personal life somehow overshadowed that. I don't get it. Republicans need to stop being so emotional. It doesn't do any good and it distracts from real issues..
He definitely seemed to genuinely regret it. He did hold the presidency in high regard so I do think he held himself to a higher standard than, say, Bush. I think he just made some big mistakes. Presidents aren't in complete control of everything. They kind of have to make everybody happy and can't always cover their own ass in the process. I don't know if it was as much the case back then but today there are lobbyists and special interest groups who sometimes have more control than the presiden
Nixon's foreign policy had successes but also led to an extension of the vietnam/cambodia war just for the benefit of nixon's friends and advisors. Those of you who just gargle conservative dogma and hope you sound intelligent might benefit from reading a few nonpartisan books. Put down your beer and your video games and discover your local library. You have ruined this magnificent country with your arrogant ignorance.Being a stupid bully only takes you so far before you have to pay the price.
at least nixon got us out of vietnam... for christ sake, the left's beloved jfk and lbj are who to blame for even getting us into the mess... fox making it impossible for obama's logic to have a voice? fox the only partial conservative news channel... when the left has cnn, msnbc, abc... youre unbelievably blind....
Read your history of Vietnam. The country of Vietnam, being hijacked along with poorly run, was in the our interest well before JFK/LBJ, much less Nixon. No one person is to blame but poor policy for many decades. Interestingly enough, our current wars have a history long before Bush Jr. and Obama, yet we allow our people and others to die daily for nothing. Sad huh? Just a rant and not a personal attack here.
Did you just call Fox a partial conservative news channel!? I mean... wha... YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!! HAHAHA!!! The same station where one of their reporters ridiculed Kurt Vonnegut posthumously with absolutely no tact whatsoever??? The same ones who engage in hurling childish insults at CNN and MSNBC for being 'leftist' (how dare they oppose the popular viewpoint)? I know you couldn't have said that with a straight face. I'm sure it's difficult to say even with a crooked one!
popular viewpoint? lol 46% liberal, 46% Conservative, rest independent, and what has ur Obama done asshole? nothing, I was promised a utopia lol, and liek all democrats he lied!
Don't box me in, dumbfuck. I'm not pro-Obama either. I'm not pro-Democrat or pro-Republican. I've outgrown those talking point urges. They were something I put away when I turned 23 as a part of growing up. So I don't get to be buddies with either Sean Hannity or Al Franken. Oh fucking well.
CNN is the middle of the road and ABC is far from left. They were the ones who made the movie about 9/11 and erroneously blamed it on Clinton. And anybody who has read anything about JFK or LBJ would not have too many positive things about either of them. And I think liberals, being typically more intellectual than your average redneck Republican are the more well read. And Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin books don't count. Try Howard Zinn.
So you're saying the idiot who just left the white house less than a year ago didn't cost 100's of thousands of lives around the world and didn't leave us a bankrupt nation ran by right wing idiots that didn't want to read anything but the bible and the nascar calendar? You're calling Obama a poser because rupert murdoch's propaganda agents on fox and other bull..it media he owns have made it impossible for logic to have a voice. You people deserve palin/plumber for president.
why is there a british television guy frost interveiwing our American present and I give more respect to nixon than the bull crap kennedy and cliton did
are you kidding, Kennedy brought the world back from the brink of enilation. I dont mean to be disrespectful but Nixon was a corrupt president who handeled the Russians and the Fidel Castro terrbly almost causing a necular war.
so you've made it clear that you'd prefer a criminal in the White House, which means that very tidily by your own admission you've established that you lack integrity and possess an immoral character. Therefore you're unable to contribute any comments that are worthy of anyone's attention.
No, what he is saying that the pos poser we currently have in the White House will end up getting a lot of people killed due to his ineptness and stupidity. He is saying Nixon on an international stance was the best man for the job, and he was!
ineptness and stupidity? Are you joking? ANYBODY who voted for Bush doesn't get to say a god damn word about ineptness or stupidity. Because he, with their help, practically destroyed this country, raped the Constitution and lied more often than he told the truth. Whether he knew the difference is still questionable. Just listen to the two men speak and explain to me how Bush's borderline mentally disabled/don't give a fuck what the world thinks approach to the presidency was so superior.
america is a wondeful place full of wondefull people but sadly the power greedy rule and make decisions only to satisfy there needs or the needs of there inner circles (most of the time)
I live in canada but its the shame shit here with stephen harper in power.

That same ability to look at the game from the outside then fed into Nixon's ultimate declaration in part 6 -- that he'd made a bad move, and his enemies had used it against him, just as he would have used such mistake against them.

hm that's weird. the chronological order of the interview was in reverse. in the real interview the watergate issue was first taped but in the movie it was the last one they taped. it was in their 3rd interview when Frost asked Nixon about the legality of the president's actions.

Sub prime mess created by Clinton.
911 attacks caused by Clinton's neglect of US intelligence services.
Iraq war created by Clinton allowing Saddam to continuously violate the armistace agreement.
The only reason you don't know this is that Bush didn't blame Clinton whenever things went bad.
Bush understood something that you and Obama don't: That is that you can only blame the president for your problems when YOU are NOT the president.
cedric1546 1 year ago
wow. sub prime mortgages weren't started until bush had been in office for years, in fact, bush got rid of the executive orders stoping credit card interest from going over 8 percent. 911 was because bush took an 8 month vacation a year after his presidency. he had spent more time on vacation than in office.

Things are bad because WE made them bad.

wubranch1 2 years ago

I'd vote for him if he ran today --if the Democrat was some spineless lib-lab that is.
tedwilli9 2 years ago
i'd vote for him to, had he not ever done the wrong doing. but then again, i'd vote for any president had that not done anything i consider to be wrong doing...

funny isn't always interesting that all people who are centrists and far righters care about is whether they are fiscally responsible but they are never concerned whether a president is socially responsible. Ignore oppressed persecuted people as long we give the bankers the key to the safe regardless of what they always end up stealing.
wubranch1 2 years ago
Bankers bankers bankers. I don't agree with Wall Street, because the Republicans NOW are not responsible with spending, and the Democrats aren't either. I was simply saying that Nixon was the last old school Republican. Nowhere did I say I agreed with his social irresponsibilities. And nowhere did I say that I ignore oppressed people through osmosis of Nixon.
tedwilli9 2 years ago
There's a difference between waging war through abuse of power, which he did, and foreign relations. Foreign relations with Nixon was about preparation and opening up trade to the East and checking Soviet powers. Was he wrong in almost wiping out an entire people? Yes. But I take it most of you are Americans, and we've done our share of killing and Indian hunting ourselves. I forget how pure and celibate all of you are.
tedwilli9 2 years ago
War in what ever way occurs when ppl refuse to live in harmony with eachother. Saying that someone wiped out an entire people and then downgrading it by saying "so what, we've done our share of killing and Indian hunting ourselves" is in my opinion a childish way of not accepting either the fact that Nixon was wrong + that the ppl where wrong for following him on that subject and others.
ikbenmaxwell 2 years ago
And what do you mean by old school republicans?! I'ts the same ppl in my opinion. Just with more money and power. But I admit I might be wrong so pls do answer.

fiscally responsible? By ending Bretton Woods, Nixon took us off the Gold Standard in 1971, which has led to all the problems we see today.
suexian 2 years ago
We can't mine enough gold to support the current circulation of money and during a time of economic crisis (now), we wouldn't be able to put money into the economy without devaluing the dollar. Check and mate? You lose.
tedwilli9 2 years ago
You can't print money out of thin air without devaluing the dollar. This is exactly what The Fed does and exactly the reason we HAVE an economic crisis.
suexian 2 years ago 3
Fiscal responsibility isn't just spending, it's how we spend it. Now, will I agree that the issuances of fiat currency and fractional reserve banking is absurd, but it's which delusion you choose to indulge in. I choose the non-gold standard delusion.
tedwilli9 2 years ago
The days of an American President having any real......real....influence over the domestic policies of this country are long over. The last president who made any substantial and REAL change once in office was Reagan. The change came with him almost over night. I'm not speaking as a Dem or Rep. It's just the new reality that businessmen control the domestic agenda of this country. Any new program that is initiated will only be watered own, a token change, meat for the dogs to keep them content.
