Thank you ever so much for posting this. I had only seen highly edited versions of this confrontation and though it didn't look like much, the right wing dingbats point to this as proof of some vast conspiracy of climatologists. This shows the nastiness of McAleer and the dishonesty of the denier camp even more and I enjoyed seeing Dr. Schneider handing this wingnut his ass.
seems he answered the reporter to me and the reporter had mis quoted him in the past, so why give him anymore time, mcaleer is obviously quite agressive and not prepared to accept the reasons given...shouting solves nothing...seen it all before
The climate model data was wrong no matter what way the climategate issue turns out, It predicts a warming of the earth which clearly isn't the case. There simply isn't enough energy coming from the sun to earth to create a run away green house effect. Our earth orbits in whats known as "The Goldilocks zone" not to hot & not to cold (simple), Venus has a run away green house effect, Mars has the opposite It's cold and lacks atmosphere, we sit between the two opposing planetary weather systems.
The sun has more than enough energy to sizzle our planet down to a bare, charred rock. It does not do so due to the protective elements of our magnetic field and atmosphere. Within the range of what is "normal" for this planet, it has experienced time periods much warmer and much colder than at present.
Even if we were in an orbit as close to the sun as venus, our Sun would not "sizzle our planet down to a bare, charred rock". Our Earth is only slightly bigger than Venus, our magnetic field and atmosphere protects us from the majorty of radition both from our sun and the rest of the cosmos. From time to time, the radiation from our sun peaks, raditing all the planets. Our solar system is a cold place and the sun does cool, how much of green house gasses would be needed to keep our planet warm?
@oceansolutions You should also include that the 'normal' range of CO2 concentration for earth's atmosphere includes concentrations 20 times present. No 'runaway' warming event was associated with this CO2 level, which persisted for centuries. AGW advocates can't explain how CO2 levels ever returned to lower levels. The strongly positive feedback they pretend exists between CO2 and water vapor would prevent CO2 levels ever returning, unless an even stronger negative feedback actually dominates.
A thorough and obviously deserved trashing of a man whose job relies on misinformation.
The applause from Phelim McAleer's fellow members of the press after a thorough ripping of his legitimacy should tell you everything that you need to know about the character of the so called "journalist."
When a $1 trillion dollar a year policy is being designed, it is ESSENTIAL that data and scienfific methods are available to the public for independent audit. This is the crux of Climategate and will bring down the whole game.
How can Microsoft get fined $100 billion for not publishing source code or info about APIs yet these so-called scientists are completely above the law? Unacceptable,
ideologue? kindof like the pot calling the kettle black.
What climategate revealed was that scientists delete data when it didn't fit the idea that Global warming is occuring and it's because of human CO2 emissions.
Great I guess you win... But, I think the best way to go and conduct business with government is to shift the burden of guilt upon them, sense they are paid by us... they should have to prove their innocence. Goes double when they choose to keep records secret.
but here you go, and next you'll tell me it's not evidence: climateaudit(.)org/2009/07/31/the-cru-data-purge-continues/ - So, why do you get to label information as evidence?
Also, many "readings" are taken from heated city environments
Stephen Schneider is such a creep. He really looks like a creep as well.
25 years ago he was warning of an ice age. Now he's touting global warming and of course it's caused by the same factors as what was causing global cooling. This guy is a joke. He is being exposed and now he is trying to cover. It's all about the funding. Guys like Schneider are thinned skinned because they are being exposed for what they are.
was this problem also well-documented in public discourse and policy debates? I don't think so. I only found out about it this year after the climategate scandal.
Schneider to 'Discover' magazine in 1989: To capture the public imagination, we have to offer up some scary scenarios, make simplified dramatic statements and little mention of any doubts one might have. Each of us has to
decide the right balance between being effective, and being honest.
@ZeDollyDots There is EVERYTHING wrong with compromising truth, and that is what happens when you decide to be less honest in order to be more 'effective'. This is a political/diplomatic rather than scientific mindset, and that says it all.
@ZeDollyDots I have read the whole thing and it does not come out any better. He still implies that because scientists are only human they have to make a personal decision to balance truth and honesty. The best he could do is resign his position as a scientist and stand as a politician. By saying what he said he is in dishonour if he remains in any kind of scientific advisory capacity.
@ZeDollyDots I didn't read 'truth', I said it was implied. I wish it wasn't one-sided but you need to read up on his background too (his attendance at Margaret Mead's 1975 Endangered Atmosphere Conference along with eugenics supporter John Holdren). Reluctantly I came to the conclusion some years ago that the environmentalism I supported was also host to some very dubious characters.
@ZeDollyDots Semiotics :) If you practise contextomy how can you criticise it? Environmentalism fronted by the likes of Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth seemed like a noble aim. Jonathan Porritt and David Attenborough are allowing themselves to be mouthpieces for population reduction in the media. To name other dubious behind the scenes characters: John Holdren, Stephen Schneider, Paul Ehrlich, Maurice Strong, George Woodwell. CO2 is a great excuse to make mankind the enemy.
@ZeDollyDots That is just it, it is not every scientific institute in the world. The debate has been engineered to be one sided in the media (look who controls it - Ted Turner, Reuters, Murdoch). The leaked emails AND computer programmes showed that the leading players were in touch with each other. It seems to be about only 42 scientists who are pushing the AGW line. Read some eminent scientists such as Freeman Dyson and the other 31,071 who are are concerned by the alarmism.
You kept a tally? Can you name the institutes or is it only hearsay? Of course GW and the opposite is real, but AGW is alarmism, especially when you see evidence that it has been sexed up. Dyson is a real scientist and therefore understands that you do not talk of proving or disproving, only evidence - either way. CO2 is not pollution but real pollution is killing us NOW - 1 in 2 men get cancer but where is the urgency? None, because the powers that be want to see fewer people on the planet.
@ZeDollyDots I also read the whole quote, its still shit, and its obvious that today he has NOT found the 'right balance' between alarmism and honesty. There is no honesty any more from this guy.
I decided to watch this "full" version, because supposedly it was to convince the viewer that the reporter was out of line, the scientist was perfect, and the reporter therefore deserved to be arrested. It proved no such thing.
Clearly, the Dr. has no clear answers to the fraud allegations. And the skeptic reporter seems to be the only one there (as evidenced by the applause from the small crowd as the Nazis escort him out).
The Emperor ("Man-Made Climate Change") has no clothes.
Amazing Dr Death, dosent answer the question as he should, they all when questioned on the E'mails fall back on the answer they dont know the full story, of course they know the full story, complete rubbish. Their eternal denial of the emails is just making things worse
The emails were cherry picked to do the most damage - fair enough, it is what I would have done. UEA have acknowledged that they are genuine. Dr. Schneider states that he will not comment unless he can view their content in context.
The "full story", i.e., the thousands of emails, is not known to everybody.
The emails are a minor detail, it is the homogenisation (obfuscation?) of the data that is important.
You evidently did not watch the "full" version, because @ 8.45, Mr. McAleer is still sitting in the audience, and is told that 'even he' is entitled to a free copy of Dr. Schneider's book. Did the Nazis re-escort him back?
@homerpez "Arrested?!" Erm, you're talking nonsense. The ridiculous "fraud" allegations have been refuted by several independent inquiries. This fat fool Phelim McAliar tries to hijack the Q & A in a preening, bullying style and gets escorted away perfectly justifiably. Watch the Nazi-style editing in his versions of his encounters with Schneider which make no attempt at conveying the truth. Steven Schneider RIP. A far, far better man than this scurrilous, grubby little hack.
@joecushley "scurrilous, grubby little hack." Yeah, that sums up McAleer quite well. His misrepresentations of Dr.Schneider are criminal. Dr. Schneider was a great man. I just heard him speak a while ago on a university channel. He was clear concise relevant fascinating, just a fabulous speaker. I was looking forward to more of his lectures. I am so sorry to hear that he has died.
Ocean - you are missing the point. Clearly McAleer was the only one at the event to question Man Made Global Warming. This is a serious issue that must be debated and it is not.
Global Warming theorists are not following the scientific process. They are trying to make the data fit their preconceived ideas behind closed doors.
Climategate should be the scandal of the century, yet it is being buried. The repercussions of this will be felt for decades in the scientific community.
Atlas, they indeed are following the scientific process and the results are coming from many, many different sources. The Climategate group was just one of thousands of institutions who contribute data towards our global climate knowledge. Schneider presents on some of this in his full presentation, which we'll post shortly. We agree that McAleer should be able to pose questions, and he did. And then he prevented others from doings so....
arlo - UEA is the recognized leader in pushing Man Made Global Warming.
It is clear the study of Global Warming is being propelled by grant money and anyone who doesn't step in line is out.
Schneider loves to use the term ideologue, however even the slightest investigation into his background reveals he is the radical ideologue with strong socialist beliefs of government intervention into peoples lives.
The bottom line is, with an issue this important, where is the debate for all to see?
Oceansolutions does not advocate any particular policy. We filmed Dr. Schneider's event because it addressed our interest in the SCIENCE of climate change and the ocean. McAleer is asserting that Dr. Schneider shut him down and called in UN security. In reality, McAleer was given extensive time and a full response. Yeah but there's a flurry of activity from UN officials the second McAleer rises to his feet and they try to stop him asking the first question. Eventually they do take the mic and McAleer just uses his free voice. Schneider is spitting with rage 4:12. You looking at the same video I am??
Oh wait, I don't have the warming coloured glasses on.
I agree, he was angry. Having given this man a 7 minute explanation of global cooling (which he once espoused) and global warming (which he now espouses), merely to have it dismissed as 'flip-flopping', it is no wonder he is angry with Mr. McAleer.
