If you find this song because it is on Scrubs then at least dignify the band with listening to some of their other music. Search for it. The reward will justify the effort.
If he'd done some songs about drugs and violence (lets face it there are plently of both in Scotland if he'd needed material) he would have been a much bigger hit in the London jibber-jabber salons where they decide these things.
I find it hard to swallow that the likes of Spandau Walleys and Duran Utans were actually more famous than these guys! Then again, half the population of any nation are below average IQ.
Ich hab die heutige Folge guckt. Einfach nur genial das Lied und überhaupt immer das Zusammenspiel von bewegenden Szenen und perfekt passender Musik. Die Serie ist unschlagbar genial!
Dear Lord...while it's great that you are fans of this song at ALL, it's extremely sad to me that you only found out about it because of SCRUBS :( I've loved Del Amitri for over 20 years now and wish more people would learn to appreciate their entire library, not just the "hits" :( *sigh*
There's nothing wrong with hearing a song, and being able to relate to it then seeking it out to listen to it. It's fanboys like you that are what's actually sad. How is anyone to find out about artists without hearing a song of theirs somewhere. Be it radio, a friend owning a CD, a Television show, stumbling across it over the internet, supporting locals at a music Cafe.
first public version of the world wide web went online in 1988. factchecking is great before you post that "the internet didn't exist back then"
technically, a government only version of the internet existed back in the late 40's and 50's at the earliest stages of what is now known as a computer
actually the internet did exist when this came out, I remember looking these guys up online back when I first heard "Driving With The Breaks On" in 1995. I used to go to my dads office and check on bands and such.
I heard this a while back and liked it then...but since seeing THAT episode of Scrubs I can't help listening to it in full every time I see that episode.
basic math xeca, the average youtube visitor is 17 or younger, plus newer videos as a whole will be viewed more than old ones. if avril was from the 80's and Del Amitri just hit the scene with this song as their hot single, it would crush avrils songs in total views.
you are missing the point.... sure this is a great song but it came out long before internet was around. kids today look up the songs they hear on the radio and see on tv, not a random song from years ago that they've probably never heard of. this song is a hidden gem, enjoy it rather than worrying about what highschool girls like to listen to.
I adore this guy and this song, but jeez - by the end of the video he looks like someone out of a cheesy 70's werewolf movie! I mean that in the most loving way...
I also found this thanks to scrubs, id forgotten how good it was. Plus at the end of the previous episode was Dreaming of you by the Coral which is a equally brillant track.
This is a brilliant song, love Del Amitri! even when people called me uncool.......15 I was when I started ha ha! better than the rubbish that was out then and now.
this sucks i liked julia's ukelelee and melodica, the accordian is all messing this up for me and at lest julia doesnt have those annoying sideburns, GAHHHH I WANT TO SHAVE THEM OFF SO BAD!!! ITS ANNOYING ME! GAH!
Also, I can enjoy the song without even thinking about the meaning. It's a bit generic, sure, but this song is sad without being too depressing and is moreorless exactly what I'm feeling right now. So I'm enjoying listening to it.
This is one of few songs which I call perfect. Perfect voice, perfect lyric, perfect melody, perfect title. So I decided to use it in my clip because it fits perfectly, I hope its ok
The band actually doesn't like that song and refuses to post on their myspace. I was a fan of it...but their lesser-known songs, I think are FAR better....more soulful.
If there's one thing I hate its bands going back and trying to erase work they've done. Like be thankful you've written something that so many people love. If it was good enough for you then, why not now...it seems a bit pretentious, like oh we're SERIOUS now la-dee-dah. I saw the "sickeningly mainstream america" comment on myspace last night, gotta say it's changed my opinion of them, in the negative.

I totally get where you're coming from though...let's end on - the band has talent!
In addition, it doesn't take a mainstream hit for me to take an interest in a band. I own countless albums by artists who have never had a hit record. Nor do I think it "sucks" for a band to HAVE to put out a mainstream hit...their pay packets might have something to do with feeling that way.
If you find this song because it is on Scrubs then at least dignify the band with listening to some of their other music. Search for it. The reward will justify the effort.

I didn't say they make them play it, I just said that when an artist is signed, a rep is always at shows. I didn't mean they're MAKING them play hits, but they're monitoring the. That said, it is ultimately up to fans. Since what you hear at a show is really what the fans want to hear, the hits creep in...otherwise you have disappointed fans and in the end, no one wants that.
