she is using her knees, but in a wrong position, see in her serve that she is leaning to the left. She must be leaning forward and rive the ball. But now! She improved on her serve a lot. Those muscles must be paying off!

Jelena doesn't put enough body into her serve. She doesn't look like she's looking to be on the offensive on the serve. She seems to treat the serve as just a way to start a point off even. The main reason why she's still in the top ten is because she has a great groundie's game. It's very hard to penetrate. if she improved her serve to be like the other stronger women, she could easily maintain a spot in the top 3 or above.

Jankovic does in fact have a very week serve, both first and second. The technique is decent, and certainly adequate for her playing style (she has of course been #1 on the WTA Tour), but she generates very little pace, sometimes even very little depth, and hits a 3/4 slice second serve roughly 85 to 90% of the time.

One technical deficiency is clear from the video: upon contact her body leans to the left instead of forward, indicating a toss that is too far to her left to generate power.
