hmmmm good question it is bigger and heavier but the Bb i think the keys are to close together but on a bass clarinet the keys are perfect if u ask me and i think its alot easier to play. mainly sence u dont get the melody alot so u have easier parts
I would say that the only thing harder about playing a bass is that it takes a little bit more air. It's awesome though!! I love the sound quality that you get from basses, the deep tones are awesome! I just wish we'd get more parts.....
Like "Into the Storm" where I get to ahve a duet with a flute. Still, in my opinion, playing the supportive parts are really fun because you later get to listen to all the parts of the songs you like and not just the melody. Anybody can play the melody but what would be of songs without bass parts? XD
hey im in 7th grade and in 8th grade u can switch to bas clarinet, i play clarinet.... i want some advice... how much does the bass clarinet play on a musical piece.... the amount you would average out... 1 being barely any 10 being alot!! thank you
Well, it depends on the size of the band you're playing with and the instruments they use. If they are a bottom-heavy orchestra/band it could be a 3 but if they are somewhat top-heavy you could hear the difference (a 7 or 8 tops n.n)
You know most professional saxophonists play bass clarinet, also? LeRoi Moore, Jay C. Easton, they play both. So before you people start bashing shit about it, remember that.

o: wow
i don't think my BD would let me switch to bass though ; - ;
right now, the entire clarinet section stinks and my BD says i have to call ugly boring sectionals!! D<
plus, i think i will lose my 1st chair status if i did that D:
it looks fun though, you get that pokey stick thingy at the bottown :D my friend was going to let me try, but i didn't want to use his mouthpiece o:

i just wanted to know... is the bass clarinet harder than the b flat clarinet?
nyahoii 3 years ago
its larger and heavier if that helps XD
xxAthoyxx 3 years ago
i know that lol
but is it harder to blow on the bass than the b flat?
is the fingering more difficult because it is more spaced out?
you know, stuff like that x3
nyahoii 3 years ago
I have never played Bb clarinet or held one, so i cant answer that sorry

my friend told me about his parts being boring, he showed me his music, and it was a few notes, and a ton of muti-measure rests D:

Yeah but if you make it to high school band, then you usually get a lot more interesting parts.

good job I like that but you need to smooth the break between Bb and C so you do not get that little wierd thing and it will sound more jazzy ya know

and if u play bass clarinet, u dont realy get alot of the melede in bands, mainly back ground, unless a polka ( lol )
taz8taz 3 years ago
You usually get the low brass parts, so you play tons but you hardly ever get the melody if that's what you mean.
midnightflowers 3 years ago
Once you get into high school the bass clarinets get their own part (for example in Havendance).

seanmd80 4 years ago
Mine tends to be sharp, but maybe its the brand of the instrument.
Muz42 4 years ago
I don't think it's a 'problem'. I think that's the necessary sound for such a performance.
