These tree arks are just an example of how ice storms bring these smaller VA pines down slowly. Their tops get ensnared in trees and limbs on the ground, and they stay that way. This is a beautiful park, by the way. I spent many years hiking in there. But it's a shame how the crazy development of Northern VA has just encircled this whole park.

that is unusual, i had a possible encounter with one in occoquan regional park early in morning 2 years ago. There are probably a few in there.
