@leonardwilson85 Thanks. These trains are new so that's why they're so clean and look modern. I've looked at quite a few videos of the NYC Subway. The trains on the N seem nice?
At present, the S Stock is on running numbers 441 and 451 between Baker Street and Watford off peak, however at around 210pm off peak, train 451 does go to Uxbridge. I went on both last week, chasing upto Wembley Park on A Stock, then crossing to southbound platform then saw train 451 in the distance, having just left! I waited for 441 up north then caught 451 back after changing perfectly at Northwood. 451 then showed Uxbridge as its destination.
But why do the seats appear to be floating? Is it so that small children can sit under them? I can't imagine there being much luggage on the met line...
But I do like the look of these trains. Most new trains I don't
@Doomsday2060 This type of seating is called cantilever seating. These seats can compensate for the loss of the luggage racks that were on the A Stock. Cantilever seating also allows for easier cleaning.
I finally got on one of these into Baker Street the other day - So much smoother than the '60s stock. Every seat on the old trains is like a trampoline!
I was going to college in uxbridge when i got on one of these trains. I' glad they have new metro line trains coming out this year, i hate the current trains.
@luerexbob I heard that these were made by the Canadian company called Bombardier. If this is true then I am so proud of them. they did a good job (from what I am seeing here).
They are 3-phase Bombardier MITRAC ECO-4 AC permanent magnet motors. Compared to the conventional MITRAC AC induction motors used on the 2009 stock, the new technology allows for less motors (can use 2 instead of 4 for example) while allowing the same performance. Permanent magnet motors are also up to around 40% quieter than traditional induction motors.
@luerexbob the nw londoners who grew up with the old ones, now face having to stand most of the time on the way to work. With endless announcements. The old ones had density seating for a reason!
Why is it taking so long to roll these out. They've done all the testing right? I thought they were originally coming out summer last year. Just wondered as I've not seen one on the whole network!
The Goverment needs to start buying British Trains and lease them to British companys rather then trying to save money or trying to ghet money, otherwise Britian is going to have no money left, same goes for the industry
@crunchynutstv I want them to come to Baker Street soon! I live in SW London so it's quite long for me to go all the way up to Wembley, Watford and Harrow!
@JSimp140 It uses 3-phase motors with IGBT inverters. Seeing as it's 100% motored axle you'd think you could hear it more - maybe when the 750v power upgrade is finished. In fact it is more audible on the train than off, unlike the 96ts and 09ts.
What a beautiful train! I cant wait to see this up my end of the Metropolitan line. Its got a space age look to it. It even sounds like an aircraft when it moves off.
what the f*** ??lol

Everywhere I go in London on the met line, these are a major topic of discussion - "Have you been on one yet?" "No, but I've seen one!"

They look like they are the same or similar shape to the 378s
globalcentralline 1 year ago
@globalcentralline They look nothing like a 378.
CJ19Productions 1 year ago
@CJ19Productions disagree.
The25City 1 year ago
@The25City 378s have a very much Electrostar look to them, a lot like a 376.
S8s have a VERY different design, especially in overall shape.
CJ19Productions 1 year ago
@Arriva2010 All I can say it be careful, because passenger service for the S Stock is very limited. Thanks for commenting.
luerexbob 1 year ago
@luerexbob
Not too limited now. they run between wembly and watford. i've been on it 3 times in 2 weeks.
