Among the best albums that Marvin ever produced. Pure original gold that stands the test of time. This never gets old. Today's artists can't touch this.
In 78, my 1st husband had 2 of his friends take my 18mos old baby from me & I just couldn"t adjust so, here it is, AL-HAQQ SALEEM SHAKIR LOGAN DUPREE, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY & RIP!
@malikkuwait89 it just goes to show how the so called best in this generation has no real soul and musical inclination as black people had back in golden motown era.blk people lost so much origional talent taking pride in jackin marvin as opposed to creating something new from your heart that will stand the test of time like so many did back when marvin was still alive.COPYCATS is what we see in these yr2000 artists
@pluggedin2u thanks homie funny part is i was a REAL 90's HIP HOP only guy.But i must thank the new breed of non talent people making crappy songs.with them being so souless it forced me to think of the history of music and look for the REAL MUSICANS that put out so much beautiful classic music.
@mrpapafunky7879 90's hip hop was off the hook! yeah they sampled other peoples music but they had a great taste for jazz and soul and they're lyrics were original, witty and coming straight from the heart. I use to listen to those 90's rap artists as well. My favorites the Wu Tang , Nas, Mobb Depp. Tribe called Quest just to name a few.
I don't know what happened but after the 90's it was all downhill.
@pluggedin2u : EXACTLY..what the fuck is someone like say,Wiz Kalifa gonna contribute??? shit for that matter, what fuck has lil wayne even contributed???????????????? all the greatest mc's EVER debuted in the 90's......with the exception of course of KRS,Rakim,Run DMC,.etc...they were late 80's of course
@bartlemy You might wanna check out Raphael Saadiq, Maxwell, Frank McComb, Donnie, D'Angelo, Adriana Evans, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Beverly Knight, Anthony Hamilton, Res, Rahsaan Patterson, Bilal, Vintage Trouble, Van Hunt, Kem, Janelle Monae, Rox, John Legend, Marsha Ambrosius, Cee-Lo Green, Aloe Blacc, Conya Doss, Eric Benet, Leela James. Marvin was a genius but people don't realize that Leon Ware had a large part of the album finished when they brought Marvin in. That's the difference you notice from Leon and Marvin that Marvin added a wall of sound where Leon didn't usually do that.
Why is Jay-Z even mentioned in the dialog for this song??? So what he sampled the song. People who love Marvin Gaye love his music because it spoke for itself. Hip-hop artists brought some sense of relevance back to the classics but they did that ONLY for young people who were too lazy to dig in the archives. People who love music KNOW songs like this. In fact this wasn't even about radio play cause you bought the album and just let it play through. Beautiful.
Mention isn't really needed but you also have to realize that some people look for older songs based off of samples. I grew up with Marvin in my house so I've always known him but I've learned about other great artists from samples. I learned about Fela Kuti years before the broadway show by reading liner notes of hip hop CDs. Not fair to call young people lazy when it was the samples that made them look for the original artist. Not everyone has parents who play old music.
I'd have to say his background vocal arranging skills peaked on this album. THAT'S the shit that kills me about Marvin when I analyze his style. I mean layers and layers of background vocals on every cut, it's ridiculous! Dude would arrange a mini-symphony of vocals, they come flying at you from every direction, every song just dense with 'em lol. But the killer thing is that there were NEVER too many of 'em. THIS cat here was a genius fa sho...
I have listened to this entire Album/CD (yes I have both) lol consistently for the last 19yrs. I first heard it in 1992 and have been hooked. I think this is one of the most sensual albums of all time. Every single track on I Want You is on point you can put the CD on repeat and let it play over and over again. Honestly THIS is the Marvin Gaye I am a fan of not so such much the duet singing Marvin of the 60s
@MrPatriiicio I've been listening to it since about 79--it's in my cd player in my car right now--I will NEVER be without this one, nor ever get tired of listening to it. I have to agree that it is one of the best albums of all time. I'm sorry to hear that you're not a Marvin & Tammi fan, though.
i know marvin is killing the singin but we must give credit to leon ware and t-boy ross for writing this album. i mean marvin really brought the lyrics alive though
@BunniBaDd ...Hey I totally agree...there's nothing like the oldies when it comes to making love and getting your freak on...Marvin Gaye is Da Truth baby!.....And the words to the song go, "gimme some H_ _ _! LOL (now I'm not glorifying it so don't get this statement twisted) HE makes oral sex sound sexy!.(now that's something.)..who else could do that but Marvin....I'm just saying..lol
you know he wrote this album with Janis Hunter his girl friend at the time in mind as a matter of fact they say she was at the studio during all the recording sessions.. if you listen @ 2:51 he says her name.. now thats how you get a wife.write an whole album for her.

My favorite on this album, soo funky, and the first line "I dreamed of you this morning/then came the dawn and/ I thought you/ where here with me/" Is magical. I sing this song all the time.
CHILLS @ 26 YRS!!! TIMELESS, REAL MUSIK...I DONT KNOW WHERE IT CAME FROM, BUT I FOUND THIS "I WANT YOU" CD IN MY HOUSE AND I RIDE EVERYWHERE WITH IT, I DONT GIVE A F*CK WHO IS IN THE CAR WITH ME OR WHERE IM GOIN, MARVIN MUST COME TOO. I WANT YOU WAS ALWAYS MY FAVORITE SONG, BUT THIS IS BY FAR MY FAV ALBUM OF HIS. I CAN ONLY DREAM OF MAKING LOVE TO MY HUSBAND TO THIS ALBUM AND PO-CREATING A LOVE CHILD!!!
Marvin sure knew how to make a woman feel. i was watching the monique show a couple of days ago. and smokey robinson was on and monique named some motown acts she said stevie wonder diana ross and then when she said marvin gaye the whole audience went crazy haha. even 26 years after his death marvin still knows how to please a crowd
@rhfactorseven LOL that would make 3 of us (but Im sure there are more who got this) It took me years of listening to this to finally get it, with headphones I could make out what he was saying and I was surprised, pleasantly so at that. LOL
The whole album was written by Leon Ware who recorded most of the tracks, then Marvin heard it and made it his. Regardless of the story, for me this is one of the most sensual tracks Marvin recorded. The album is a 10 from start to end!!
I discovered the song, hearing Joe's cover and I thought it was unequallable. But this version, the original version! I became a Marvin freak from hearing it. Did you know he recorded that album mostly lying on a couch? If that's not God's gift what then?!!!
Do you really KNOW what he's saying. I want to give you some head??? I really never did this before, but there's always a first time. Listen to his background vocals. I'm gonna lap you right up woman etc..... this guy is laying it on thick!!!!
breaks my old heart to hear this. never wanted the song to end. You're holding her by the neck, the small of the back, gently, swaying, she's whispering in your ear. Bless you Marvin. He made romantic, popular music, sacred art. No hype; for real.
Almost 40yrs old & still sounds as fresh as it did its 1st day on the radio/8track/soultrain. This brother was light years ahead of his time....all of marvins albums have @ least 2 or 3 tunes that still hit home 2day. It could be a love trax or a political tune..his music is still gaining speed. Marvin R.I.P. bru..u r missed big time!
@K3nL13L for me all of the 70's Marvin and only the 70's after the what's going on album you should download. To me they are all good albums in which you can find at least 4-5 good songs in each album to download.
this WHOLE album was flawless

My favorite on this album, soo funky, and the first line "I dreamed of you this morning/then came the dawn and/ I thought you/ where here with me/" Is magical. I sing this song all the time.

Marvin sure knew how to make a woman feel. i was watching the monique show a couple of days ago. and smokey robinson was on and monique named some motown acts she said stevie wonder diana ross and then when she said marvin gaye the whole audience went crazy haha. even 26 years after his death marvin still knows how to please a crowd

he never gave no head before, but there's a first time for everything. I hear you!
bmann161 1 year ago
The whole album was written by Leon Ware who recorded most of the tracks, then Marvin heard it and made it his. Regardless of the story, for me this is one of the most sensual tracks Marvin recorded. The album is a 10 from start to end!!
TravisBlaqueRap 1 year ago 2
I discovered the song, hearing Joe's cover and I thought it was unequallable. But this version, the original version! I became a Marvin freak from hearing it. Did you know he recorded that album mostly lying on a couch? If that's not God's gift what then?!!!

breaks my old heart to hear this. never wanted the song to end. You're holding her by the neck, the small of the back, gently, swaying, she's whispering in your ear. Bless you Marvin. He made romantic, popular music, sacred art. No hype; for real.

the lyrics and subjer matter would spoil it if the song weren't so darn good!

That is exactly what he was talking about. That and so much more.....
