I love living in Standish, the area is great for hills but the pain is getting up them afterwords, Parbold Hill is fast but Red Rock is just as fast, seems steeper but you have to be quick on the breaks, hit 39 mph on a MTB down red rock.
Never mind going down! You'd probably go faster than my car going up!! Its lost so much power I thought I was actually going to go down backwards, slowly dropping gear after gear, ended up in first doing about 10mph =S
Was thinking of cycling to work when I start, but have to get up that monster of a hill. Anyone know what its like on the up hill cycle?
I also got snapped at 36mph. Had to attend a Speed Awareness Course to avoid points. According to my research, the siting of the camera is illegal. Drivers have to have sight of a Speed Camera for a minimum distance before actually reaching it. With this camera you only see it when you turn the left hand bend where it sits.
If a driver slams on his brakes at the last minute, that in itself could result in a serious accident!
Parbold Hill - Just been flashed doing 36mph, I was freewheeling, and did brake, obviously not fast enough. With fields surrounding it is easy to forget this is a 30mph zone, and the only reason I see for it being a 30mph is that it is the second highest earning camera in lancashire!!!
that is seriously fast. ide watch out i herd on the radio the other day that a guy lost his driving licence from a video on youtube he posted showing him speeding. i got pulled on my bike once going down heptonstall road. was only about 12 so i got off with a slap on the wrist
Its a VERY steep descent, much steeper than it looks in the clip, its scary on a bike,if you dont ride on your brakes you will carry on accelerating to 40 or even 50 mph then the bend will catch you out if your not ready for it.
Well bugger me ,that speed camera got me last week,in my BT van ,I should have know better! clocked me at 36 mph, just the week before I passed through it at 47mph on my road bike!
I know lol,but I was sure I slowed to 32 which would not normally trigger it,I could contest it but might not be worth the hassle,at least on the bike it wont trigger ,I dont think ,if it does there is no way they could trace me. probably end up paying with points on my licence damn, I bet that camera is a real money earner
looks fun - suprised chalkus hasn't been on here telling you you should be 60cm from the kerb at all times and that you were "endangering other road users" etc - nice bit of film
I live in Wigan just a few miles from there, its a VERY fast descent, the bend can catch you out though, the speed camera is in a 30mph zone very sneaky,
Just worked out Red Rock has a drop of 190 feet while Parbold Hill has 350 feet, but Red Rock is shorter and in a straight ish line.

When cyclists get flashed do the police actually try hunt the cyclists down?

They do if they're frequent offenders or easily recognised. It doesnt make the news as people would find it too funny, I'd reckon.

Yeah, he disappeared. His best one was that taking a lane in order not to get killed was an example of me being selfish.... :o)
