This video is not of brake jack. It is merely showing the rotational energy being transferred to the bike. Think about it: if you did this same experiment with a bike with a brake isolator linkage, the same thing would happen. The suspension would still compress as the rotational energy of the wheel transferred to the bike.
I am pretty sure that that isn't brake jack that you are seeing there. I think you are seeing conservation of angular momentum which is a different effect. You really can't get brake jack on a Horst link setup because the brake caliper is on the seat stay. You will also see the same kick if you try this on a bike without rear suspension (although less obvious due to the greater mass of the whole bike compared to just the rear suspension swing arm).
Correct it is merely the conservation of momentum. However you can get brake jack or squat on a horst link: The brake action transfers a torque to the seat-stays, the torque through the seat stays is transferred to the rocker. The only scenario where there is no jack/squat is when the rocker is perpendicular to the seat-stays (since the rocker moves, this is seldom the case).
This does not happen to the trek ranges, because they went with their own design, rather than swallowing yet another company and then not really knowing what they were doing.
They've probably improved this now though but then the brought out the future shocks, the worlds worst suspension unit, if this is what suspensions is like I'll stick with a fully rigid!
i think i over emphasised this. This is supposed to happen, and will happen on almost every bicycle suspension. Including Giants Maestro suspension. It is not a bad thing. It is simply the wheels momentum transferring into the suspension since the brake stopped the wheel from rotating.
yeah, thats why i chose giant reign one...but if you use the smallest gear on the crank, you will still feel some pedal kickback or jack...but its ok,i dont usually use that gear...
Well that sounds nice but why innerchainline? why dont you have single chainline at the front and 9 gears in the back? its waaaaaay moore easier or two chainlines and a chainguide?
cause i like all mountain riding, and i need that bloody 11teeth gear...haha,sorry i was kidding...yeah,sometimes i have to climb,so i need that smallest gear, and till now i found no chainguide suit for my crank even if i really wanna have one...ya got some ideas about that?...
Well i soppose you use 2 chainrings and a bashguard so i would use a Truvativ ShiftGuide or a E-13 DRS. Both of the chainguides is probably working verry good but my brains and heart sais E-13 caus its nice but its alot of cash for the same value. I have also been thinking about getting a All Mountain frame but i dont know wich one(It has to be a fullsuspension frame).... can i get your msn maybe? PM if you wanna give it to me ;D
i really wanna talk about that for fur on msn with you man,you see,my msn id has been dumbed by some unknown reason unfortunatily, and i even not able to get contect with all of my friends there,i am really sorry!!!but the hotmail mail box is still available,so...if you dont mind,we may keep in touch with it till the msn repaired...and i really appreciate your invitation!!!
oh,i forgot to tell ya ma crank, its a raceface evolvo xc(hehe, cheap one, right?it came with ma giant reign one),and i am still searching for a suitable chainguid for it...do you think any e-13 drs fit for it?...
as for the all mountain frame, why not try giant reign, its not that expensive, also works sweet...just like what i said, you wont be disapointed with it...
Well yeah i guess it works good with those cranks the only demand the chainguide got is that it is 4 arm spindle.
Well i have thought about that bike but i whant to lower my budget and dont know if its possible but a Cherry Bomb(Da Bomb) but they weight alot and those fourbar linkage has a lot of f*ck*ng brake jack... hard to make up my mind hehe
wow, what should i say,i lost ma mind...but i tho giant reign got a lot of different models,if not for the reign one or reign xo, guess it is not that a high price stuff...Da Bomb is also good, but same problem, you hate that brake jack right?...what about replace that shock into a spv one?i think it will be better for fourbar linkage frame...
Well your probably right, by spv do you mean a air shock then? caus that would be super i think, well i would like a simple Marzocchi Roco Air but its so darn expansive xD, but i think that the model of 2008 cherry bomb has a fox float RP23, am i right?
oh,yeah,if it was a float rp23,then no porblem anymore...guess it must work fantasicly!!!cause i always wanna change ma swinger 3 way into a rp23,but i will cost me a big deal of money,lol...and i dont think you will get a brake jack easily if you pumped enough air into the shock(certainly you will,right?):D...
by the way, roco is good, plush as butter, super sensitive to small bump,it is also one of shox that i wanna try,but marzocchi japan doesnt sale rear shox, only forks...and it is said that its prepedal is not that good as rp23 or spv...i cant tell dude...see if there is a chance i can get one...
well thats bad, but if you check out tha german webpages you may find some marzocchi rearshocks, oh btw PM me your mail adress so we can talk thru there insted ;D
3) brake squat isn't necessarily a bad thing. in fact, Kona's D.O.P.E had two settings, one to eliminate brake squat, and one to increase squat. most people prefer increased squat

Sounds reasonable to me. Nothing wrong with a good deep obsession with MTB hardware.

@surfersup1 Indeed, I have Trek session 77 which is fairly old now and with the bike setup for riding, this does NOT happen!

Brake jack and brake squat aren't the same thing
Xantoes 2 years ago
It will happen on the 05 as well, but if you actually ride the bike it brakes better than most non-fsr bikes in all conditions.

well no old FSR bikes then ;D ... Giant has less of brake jack so buy a glory or reign or wtf its sopposed to be :D

so much for FSR advertisements. I have a stumpjumper and it just made me disappointed with FSR

@pjaxy Your FSR is not faulty. Don't worry about it. Any bike does this including a hard tail.

@jacksona18685toot
after three years of obsessing with bicycle suspension, i've learned three important things
1) 90% of suspension bikes out there exhibit this "brake squat" which is usually wrongly called brake jack
2) floating disc brake system (like Kona's D.O.P.E.), eliminates brake squat
3) brake squat isn't necessarily a bad thing. in fact, Kona's D.O.P.E had two settings, one to eliminate brake squat, and one to increase squat. most people prefer increased squat

there is nothing abnomal about the bike/shock. I just removed the coil from the rear shock.
spastikslingkee 4 years ago
is there a proper rar shock on that as it look veryvery soft n i cnt really see it also a propa rear shock wudnt reabound or compress as quick either
