Aww! My rabbits have one of those treat balls, brilliant toys (Except one of my rabbits decided to be violent and hooked his teeth into the ball's opening, picked it up, and began smashing it repeatedly against the wall until all the treats fell out. Typical) gorgeous rats, I love their tails <3

I've had my rat for two months now and my mom is making me hold her on the kitchen floor because she poops and pees multiple times in 30 mins then I put her back so she will 'go' and take her back out but it never works and it is making me not let here run around like other peoples rats. They're just any other domestic pet rat. :) They do have some rarer coloring, if that's what you're talking about.

mormonsick I think those are Merle Rats. They can get splashes and spots of colors. True(they seem different) I never really seen one either.

Obviously yes he's after the treats inside but has to play to get the treats ... thats the idea?

And yeah, squeaky toys aren't a rat thing like dogs would use them but rats love balls actually and with some encouragement do play with normal balls too :)

Ours love the giggle balls too. We tend to fill theirs with rice bubbles (rice krispies?) and let them at it. I've seen them fling it across four cage levels just for the sheer fun of it :D

Good deep paint roller paint trays work well too for playtime. the ramp-like design lets them set their own comfort levels, from basic splashing to full on dive-paddling.

Heee. We had to bring one in after Beans went batshit in the bathtub. She just can't stay out of water. Ended up forking out for a quite expensive industrial one that's half a foot deep in the tray so she could have a swim about on hot days.

The others tend to sit up the shallow end and dunk their heads. Or shove each other in.

I actually picked it up at Bunnings (hardware chain down here) - it's a "Uni Pro" heavy duty. 32 cm wide, 42cm long, 15cm deep in the dip.

The only thing is if you have older rats you may need to put up a ramp for them to get into it - it sits rather high off the ground due to the tray depth. I just jam an archway partly under there and Paggles (3 years old) is set.

If its the odd occasional sneeze then it shouldn't be anything to worry about, if its regular sneezing then it could be a sign of worse things. Send a message to my inbox with details if you want, and if you have concerns then the vets is always the best option.

Put simply, I'm not having this argument so it stops here. Whiskey and Womble are very active, happy and healthy. Their weight is actually average for this type of male rat, they are not fat. You cannot compare these to female rats or even other types of male rats, and you DEFINITELY can't compare to wild rats lol.

They are not fat!! Ive had males myself like this and if a Vet wasnt concerned about them then thats a good enough opinion to me. Whiskey and Womble are in complete proportion and you obviously like their videos as you have favourited some!

Hehe :), little tip: I had to train my boys to use this it was FAR from instinctive. I ended up putting the ball with the opening at the bottom and a piece of food just there so if they moved the ball the food was there instantly, from there they learnt to hit the ball and things progressed, womble learned to tap it just "so" though to get food easily, whiskey runs around without it for hours lol, go figure :)

My two came from a pet store. Rats are very very clean animals and easy to look after. I find that people tend to be unsure of them right up until the moment that they get to see them in person. After that its very easy to fall in love with them. I haven't heard the pet store rumour. Look for licenced pet stores.

Breeders are better, they tame them more and they will have a better chance of getting sick. But I got mine from a petstore.

I've been thinking about getting one of those food balls, but not sure if my rats would use it. What do you put inside it? I was thinking about using pumkin seeds or something. I've heard that some rats just chew the ball open for the food though. Your rats look so relaxed in the water btw!

They took a lot of "warming" up to the idea of playing with the ball. Had to train them to use it. I just put biscuit treats and such inside (broken into smaller bits). To start with i placed the ball with the opening at the bottom and the treat lying at the opening. so if the moved the ball they got the treat straight away. Took quite a while to get from there to this. But is nice to see them playing with it now.
