Not heard this version before and I thought I'd heard everything the Police did, just goes to show you learn something new every day!! It sounds a bit earlier than 1983 to me.?
"i don't mind spending every day standing outside in the pouring rain!" maroon 5 is damn lucky Sting hasa billion or so buck or else that scavage adam levine would be sued and shamed so bad that maroon rip off would never be able to show their face in public again!!!
I read when the police reformed in 2007 that they started writing a few tracks together. They actually recorded and presented their tracks but the record co thought it was not mainstream enough of a sound to put out. Considering their new stuff was very progressive and jazz influenced the band did not want to tarnish their legacy. The band decided not to work on another album and amicably parted ways for their last time following their final concert, Is there any chance of these tracks leaking
I have a theory that Andy and Stewart just let Sting do what he wanted to most of the time, and sat back laughing at him. Really though, much love for Sting.
Interesting twist to the original, but given the sound, it does not sound as if it were cut in 1983, that was when synchronicity was released, and that had a unique sound all together. this sounds like it was re-cut in 1979-1980.
This is such a great take of this song! Just brilliant. It's kind of OK that the Police were smoking lots of weed and snorting way too much coke at this point. It was never really the same after they became ridiculously huge and played Shea Stadium. Just like the Beatles that was basically thier swan song. Oh except for the reunion tour.....yikes :-)
Thanks for sharing! I like both versions. The original matches better with the aggressive lyrics and gets you into head-banging within the first two seconds. *g* And this version is deeper and Sting's voice is pure pleasure to listen to in this!
I thought that there was supposed to be a Message in a Box Volume 2, which includes all the missing tracks from the first box set, including this song.
I read about it a couple years ago, but I guess it never came out.
Yes - funny - I heard an interview with the front man from Maroon 5 saying that he wanted to write Every Breathe You Take, but that had been done, so he came up with You Will Be Loved. Interestingly their following record - Won't go home without you - is even more of a Police rip-off - structure, tempo, riff, piano octave piano on 2nd and 4th beats - copies EBYT to the letter. Presumet that's what the told their producer to do! Not in the same league of course, but at least he acknowledges them
O My God! What a wonderful surprise! This is so interesting. I love the bass at the very end, and there are many cool details in the version.
One gets the feeling that they could have done great stuff with anything at this point, even with the worst 1983 jingle . I imagine them Policefying other songs of their own, and those of others.

This recording was included as a bonus in a double pack, gatefold version of the "Every Breath You Take/ Murder By Numbers" 7" single.
Truth Hits Everybody was labeled as a 1983 "Remix" version of the song. A live version of Man In A Suitcase could be found on its B side (labeled AM*01).
A 7"x14" vertical B&W portrait of the band, by Duane Michals, was printed inside the gatefold.
It was also the "European" B-side variant of the "Synchronicity II / Once Upon A Daydream" single (label AMS 9747).
I see what you mean. I like both version. The first one was more punk and this more pop. I hate all pop except for what the Police did. This is catchy. I like Don't Stand So Close 83 tho I think the 1st one is better.
This just sounds like post-Police Sting, which unfortunately I never could enjoy as much as the Police (in particular, their first three albums). It is somewhat interesting as a song in its own right, but I don't know why he didn't just pen new lyrics and call it something else. As far as I am concerned it lacks the urgency and energy of the original.
Actually, this demo shows that Sting's musicality(is it the right word?) was always the same as it is now. The first three P. albums and some songs fron 4th and 5th shows how a band can sound if all three members contribute an equal amount of energy in the songs.
For some reason I feel like Sting and The Police grew up with their music; their earlier material was faster, simpler, louder, aggressive. But the songwriting seemed a little flawed. But as the '80s rolled around, they seemed to grow up, along with a change in sound heavily. They went from simple guitar strums and crazy guitar solos to soothing melodies and softer solos, and became slower. They;'re newer songs almost paint a perfect picture of a movie or piece of art. Its weird
Wow! This is obscure. It sounds like Sting was attempting to replace Stewart with a drum machine--notice those oh-so-80's hand claps. Still, I like it, and I would have preferred them to play this version on the tour.
sting was always trying to replace stewart and andy but the truth is they all need each other and create something special. You realise this in your 40's and 50's!.. Not when you're younger! :-)
such a shame that they never released the re recorded songs in 1986 this shows how talented these are when they can make a song sound so independant, even the live version is different in 2007. You are right. Who picks this crap? Also only 3 songs a week. They need to get more songs out faster. especally if they send out one good song a month.
I like the police. I have the police pack on my rock band but out of the entire police catolog this is the song they choose. Every band from the beatles to the police, have songs that are not the greatest and this one is one of those songs. Need better song selection.
I work for a living and dont have the time to sit around and learn to play guitar. This is an easy subsitution that anybody can learn to play quicky and have fun with. Maybe you should try it before hating it.
You don't have 30 minutes a day to devote to learning power chords? Hell, I got power chords down in 15 - and this song is all power chords, as is Next To You. Guitar is very easy to learn if you start simple and spend a few minutes a day on it.
If you dont have 20 minutes each day (I mean, I know you have, just dont allocate it) to learning guitar or any instrument you desire. don't kid yourself: you never wanted to play just wanted to have fun. Which is OK. just dont tell you dont have the time.
i dont care who is singing the song.. i think the song sucks.. i am a moderate fan of the police.. but i dislike this song.. where do you live??.. must be a place where you cant voice your opinion without being shot
i think i reread what i said 4 maybe 5 times.. i dont recall saying fascist.. you should have told me what to like and not like.. i'll listen next time.. let me know what to wear tommrow to k.. i'll wait for you.. come down any time after 9 - before 9:30 preferable.. ttyl
just doing my part bro.. i was commenting to the original guy who posted that it was on rockband.. i am still waiting for you to tell me what to wear man..
Thank you very much for this! It is awesome, but to me, the one at hatfield is the best. The drums in this one kind of sound like a drum machine.. or is it just me?
in late 1979 and early 1980 The Police performed Truth Hits Everybody very much like this version. All us Police fans would call it the SLOW Version cause usually Truth Hits Everybody is played fast! In the early days 1978 it was played at Warp 9! :)
A dreadful version. The reason the Police records still sound good today is that they largely avoided releasing anything with synths and drum machines on as most bands did in the 80s. A very smart move. U2 did the same.
u must be, have u heard Ghost in the Machine or Synchronicity, so ur telling me theres no synth in Every little thing she does is magic, Invisible Sun, Spirits in the Material World, Secret Journey, Every Breath You Take, Oh My God, Wrapped Around Your Finger??????????
Ok how about live, THE POLICE LIVE disc 2, Dont Stand So Close to me, Invisible Sun (you can even see sting play on the synth on the dvd), Oh My God (during the verses), Synchronicity II, Spirits (during the chorus), Wrapped around your finger), and u can check out any live version of Walkin on the Moon. so whos deaf? haha
u must be, have u heard Ghost in the Machine or Synchronicity, so ur telling me theres no synth in Every little thing she does is magic, Invisible Sun, Spirits in the Material World, Secret Journey, Every Breath You Take, Oh My God, Wrapped Around Your Finger??????????
The Police used synths nearly the whole time through their career...even if you don't see a regular keyboard onstage, both Sting and Andy had Moog Taurus foot pedals they played with their feet for slight embellishments now and then at their shows...they weren't dominating, but they're in there.
This is AWESOME!! There is NO good reason why this shouldn't have been on "Synicity"! I top my hat to the wise fellow who posted these demos! My 12 year old litte brother hates it though. Little dumb ass has no taste!
This version is actually terific! love this, thanks a lot policechout, really, sounds great, the voice is perfect, it's very diferent from the original but it's also good, it's like a new song, nothing compares to the original
Yes! With anything that wasn't on the original; remixes, foreign language versions, but unfortunately not the GITM demos as far as i know. Someone had a tracklist of it on a myspace police forum a while back...haven't heard anything since.
my grandma cried when the tarrost attact...she said it was the korans but i knew better are they going to kill adolesting while making love in a corn freild?
Interesting how this sounds similar to the slowed down version they are playing on the current tour. A couple of the "demo"/"rare audio" recordings that have been posted sound very similar to how they are playing on the current tour. Pretty cool how it seems that they went back to the vault and pulled out some cool vibes!!!!!

The Clash, The Police and The Ramones...you're right. No shitty pseudometal or pretentious prog rock. Or how about another emo pack?

i dont care who is singing the song.. i think the song sucks.. i am a moderate fan of the police.. but i dislike this song.. where do you live??.. must be a place where you cant voice your opinion without being shot
yankees21229 4 years ago
Well, for one thing, this isn't what the song actually sounds like. It's a demo. Look up the actual song.
And I like how you can come here and insist that the song sucks, and call any one who rebuts a fascist...
ElSingario 4 years ago
i think i reread what i said 4 maybe 5 times.. i dont recall saying fascist.. you should have told me what to like and not like.. i'll listen next time.. let me know what to wear tommrow to k.. i'll wait for you.. come down any time after 9 - before 9:30 preferable.. ttyl
yankees21229 4 years ago
You brought a place where you couldn't voice your opinion without getting shot. That's facism.
I have to say, it's been new and exciting seeing you people whine about DLC. Thanks for making this place as shitty as the Rock Band forums!

just doing my part bro.. i was commenting to the original guy who posted that it was on rockband.. i am still waiting for you to tell me what to wear man..

This version Of the song was re-recorded and appeared in a rare UK 7" double pack release of Every Breath You Take.

great version indeed, much in the synchronicity-album-style... i prefer the more energetic original version though.
thanks for posting it...

Liked more than the original, nicely paced; THE POLICE: music for my ears.
AJVenter94 4 years ago
Very good version...but as it was said before ...can't beat the original
luckymincer 4 years ago
A dreadful version. The reason the Police records still sound good today is that they largely avoided releasing anything with synths and drum machines on as most bands did in the 80s. A very smart move. U2 did the same.
doublepunchesready 4 years ago
what r u talkin about, they recorded and played live with synth
masternate61 4 years ago
nop!!! they didn't... are you deaf??? hahaha
DiazdelVivar 4 years ago
have u heard police live 2nd disc, give a second listen
masternate61 4 years ago
u must be, have u heard Ghost in the Machine or Synchronicity, so ur telling me theres no synth in Every little thing she does is magic, Invisible Sun, Spirits in the Material World, Secret Journey, Every Breath You Take, Oh My God, Wrapped Around Your Finger??????????
masternate61 4 years ago
Ok how about live, THE POLICE LIVE disc 2, Dont Stand So Close to me, Invisible Sun (you can even see sting play on the synth on the dvd), Oh My God (during the verses), Synchronicity II, Spirits (during the chorus), Wrapped around your finger), and u can check out any live version of Walkin on the Moon. so whos deaf? haha

The Police used synths nearly the whole time through their career...even if you don't see a regular keyboard onstage, both Sting and Andy had Moog Taurus foot pedals they played with their feet for slight embellishments now and then at their shows...they weren't dominating, but they're in there.

thank you

Totally agree, The Police is a 99% non-synth band! that keeps their classic sound at tempo.
Anyone who ignores it is a deffie! Truth hits everybody.

Nice version but can't beat the original for me!
Great to hear these rare tunes. A real treat!

This is AWESOME!! There is NO good reason why this shouldn't have been on "Synicity"! I top my hat to the wise fellow who posted these demos! My 12 year old litte brother hates it though. Little dumb ass has no taste!

Mind blowing version!, liked more than the original, thanks mate for sharing. Thursday 17/01 Westpac Stadium, Wellington.

You're right. It does beat the original. Very melodic and ambient.

I think that it's far more interesting than their 1986 remake of Don't Stand so Close To Me.
blackgargamel 4 years ago
Much better...uggh. I deleted that remake from my mp3 player when i ripped the box set.

fucking fantastic but a little bit slow!

This version is actually terific! love this, thanks a lot policechout, really, sounds great, the voice is perfect, it's very diferent from the original but it's also good, it's like a new song, nothing compares to the original

I've been wanting to hear this for YEARS! The "complete" box set was a bit random when it came to what was omitted and included. Thank You P-chout!!

POLICEchout 4 years ago
a box set?
shore95 4 years ago
Yes! With anything that wasn't on the original; remixes, foreign language versions, but unfortunately not the GITM demos as far as i know. Someone had a tracklist of it on a myspace police forum a while back...haven't heard anything since.

This sounds more like Last Exit than a demo.
bandaloop 4 years ago
This one isn't technically a demo, since it was actually released on a single at the time. This should've been on the box set!
POLICEchout 4 years ago
Wow, I like this version very much! Could you tell me where I can get the mp3 for that song? That would be great! ... Thanks!
Sting1990 4 years ago
I would like to get this song too!!!!
ca, you tell me where you found it?
margotennico 4 years ago
Probably the song was written this way and then punkified.
