I came here first because it was easier for me to be accepted into uni, and now I have been practicing as a lawyer, which would have been slightly more difficult in Canada. The weather is much better here in Australia, however if things like skiing/snowboarding are your passion, then Canada may be a better option. The health care system here is adequate, however it is less than the Canadian standard. 2 great countries tho

It is true the Australian Government prefers to bring skilled visa holders into Australia rather than make sure Australian companies train Australians so there are plenty of jobs for skilled visa holders. And in some states they will educate your kids for free great hay.
Just remember if you decide to become an Australian citizen you will have to compete with oversea workers for a job!

I lived in Calgary, and doing the same job, I made 30'000 a year more in Canada! As a Plumber/Gas fitter. @bgibb101 sorry mate, canadians did in fact fight in vietnam, you are completely wrong on that part, one of my relatives who of course died like 25 years before my time died there along with 110 other canadians. canadians also fought in the iraqi war but unlike vietnam they were non-combat units, the main canadian army pulled out of vietnam in 1962 and all who wanted to fight joined canadian battalions within the american army, over 1% of "american" soldiers were actually canadians.

We stayed out of the war and accepted refugee claims from American soldiers who didn't want to fight. A handful of Canadians acting against the state without state support isn't the military. We did not fight in Vietnam and we should not recognize the efforts of foreign militaries in wars we do not support.

They're good, but they don't hold a candle to Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. The middle powers focus on training. The SAS is about on par with the U.S. and French; the Israeli's beat them. @rpottage - The SAS train the Israelis. I saw their officers being trained by the SAS in the UK alognside US Rangers and German special forces. @ultradumbass No, we didn't. Canada, along with other nations, was involved in the Paris Peace accord and sent a small number of forces the vietnam to help enforce the Paris Peace Accord. We did not, however, fight in the Vietnam War. They are two very different things. Saying the Canadians who fought for the American military constitute Canadian involvement is like saying WW2 was really just a civil war because some Germans happened to fight for other countries.

I quoted the 12,000 as being about half the number of ARMY personnel, not the combined armed forces overall. @rpottage no it is not the same. the canadian government authorised any canadian soldier who chose to fight in vietnam could join the americans. over two thirds of canadians that fought in the american army were in the canadian army prior. the "germans" were born mostly in england or north america and therefore were not raised germans. the canadian government like the americans never officially declared war however the canadian government refused to be directly involved.

Canada is a great country. We're warm and friendly - very laid back and just let ppl get on with their own lives...We don't live under a sheet of ice like everyone thinks...the west coast is a subtropical climate with palm trees and tropical vegetation...it just rains A LOT in the winter, but has beautiful hot weather in the summer...we're a highly educated country and our standard is ridiculously high, so coming in with your own credentials is hard. I think we're worth a try!!

I came here first because it was easier for me to be accepted into uni, and now I have been practicing as a lawyer, which would have been slightly more difficult in Canada. The weather is much better here in Australia, however if things like skiing/snowboarding are your passion, then Canada may be a better option. It is true the Australian Government prefers to bring skilled visa holders into Australia rather than make sure Australian companies train Australians so there are plenty of jobs for skilled visa holders. And in some states they will educate your kids for free great hay.

I lived in Calgary, and doing the same job, I made 30'000 a year more in Canada! As a Plumber/Gas fitter. @bgibb101 sorry mate, canadians did in fact fight in vietnam, you are completely wrong on that part, one of my relatives who of course died like 25 years before my time died there along with 110 other canadians. canadians also fought in the iraqi war but unlike vietnam they were non-combat units, the main canadian army pulled out of vietnam in 1962 and all who wanted to fight joined canadian battalions within the american army, over 1% of "american" soldiers were actually canadians.

We did not fight in Vietnam and we should not recognize the efforts of foreign militaries in wars we do not support.

Our cities are too small but are expanding too fast to take in that many people. We provide government services in multiple languages and put newecomers on government assistance. @rpottage - Do you really want white Canadians (the people who built this country and fought in two world wars to preserve) to become the minority in their own country? It will happen in 30 years from now. Almost all Canadian soldiers killed or seriously wounded in Afghhanistan were white - with the exception of about three people. So where is all this "diversity?" I see lots of minorities around, but they live (for the most part) among their own kind. They do not want to "integrate."

@bgibb101 Fourth. We don't need to import violence from those countries, we get enough from the U.S. Most of our big gangs and drugs are linked with the U.S. (and from there Mexico). As for welfare; immigrants are far less likely to go on welfare than people who have been born here.
Fifth, Out country is built upon acceptance. We do not force integration. We're a cultural mosaic, not a blending pot. That's why Quebec is still french (and no, I do not want them to be english)

They're good, but they don't hold a candle to Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. The middle powers focus on training. The SAS is about on par with the U.S. and French; the Israeli's beat them. Then comes Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. There's a reason we flew the dangerous mission in Libya, took Kandahar, and were the elite in WW1,WW2,Korea.

@rpottage - The SAS train the Israelis. I saw their officers being trained by the SAS in the UK alognside US Rangers and German special forces. Don't get me wrong, JTF-2 are an excellent unit, better than most, but the SAS and SBS units have proven themselves out of sight. BTW, are you planning on doing military service? As for being an atheist, good for you. But we are taking in huge numbers of Muslims who are taking over public schools and want Sharia law here. Be mindful of that...

I think here's the distinction. When I say Canada, I mean all of it. JTF2 are elite, but new. But the Canadian military as a whole is elitely trained. The U.K. only has a handful of such units.
Considered the military. Haven't decided yet.
I don't fear muslisms. 1) we have muslim groups that are Canadianized. 2) we defeated Sharia law years ago. (2005 in On I think)

Unfortunately for you; you can't complain about that (that was taken away after people complained about the military changing it's regulations to allow religious headgear to make it easier on foreign born members of the military. In 30 years time white Canadians will be in the minority in their own country. You measure a nation by their productivity - not by the population density. The recession? I couldn't hire enough people on 2009/10 because half of the applicants couldn't speak English!

The Frasier institute report neglected the taces paid (a report made pegged immigrant households getting approx. $10, 500/year in taxes, and paying approx. $22, 000/year in taxes. Which means they contribute more than they take. So if we spend $23 billion on them, then they pay around $49 billion.

@ultradumbass No, we didn't. Canada, along with other nations, was involved in the Paris Peace accord and sent a small number of forces the vietnam to help enforce the Paris Peace Accord. We did not, however, fight in the Vietnam War. They are two very different things. Saying the Canadians who fought for the American military constitute Canadian involvement is like saying WW2 was really just a civil war because some Germans happened to fight for other countries.

I quoted the 12,000 as being about half the number of ARMY personnel, not the combined armed forces overall. Canada's military should be 120,000 combined at least, but years of neglect from Trudeau through to Martin almost destroyed our military. Thank God Harper is spending more money on our forces.

Iraq the U.S. got it's ass kicked at first, and we had to help out. We saved face, but we us NORAD to put more military officers in Iraq than almost any other country. (third most)
As for Grenada. We were involved. Two ways. 1) NORAD. 2) We didn't fight against the U.S. (Grenada is an ally). We stepped aside.

@rpottage no it is not the same. the canadian government authorised any canadian soldier who chose to fight in vietnam could join the americans. over two thirds of canadians that fought in the american army were in the canadian army prior. the "germans" were born mostly in england or north america and therefore were not raised germans. the canadian government like the americans never officially declared war however the canadian government refused to be directly involved.

Canada is a great country. We're warm and friendly - very laid back and just let ppl get on with their own lives...We don't live under a sheet of ice like everyone thinks...the west coast is a subtropical climate with palm trees and tropical vegetation...it just rains A LOT in the winter, but has beautiful hot weather in the summer...we're a highly educated country and our standard is ridiculously high, so coming in with your own credentials is hard. I think we're worth a try!!

I admit Trudeau left a mark on Canada that would never be forgotten, but he at least sent in an average of 50,000 immigrants per year. That number was changed in 1985 when Mulroney became the PM after Canadians were fed up with Trudeau. Despite Mulroney being a Conservative, he insisted that Canada should take in 250,000 per year (avg.) And that is the number we see today. In 1992, The Reform Party wanted to lower the levels. But they were deemed by the opposition as 'racist.'

If one applies to come to Canada as a skilled worker one is subjected to deep scrutiny regarding all aspects of one's life. As a matter of fact, many of those immigrants are better qualified than their Canadian counterparts. However, due to tricky requirements like "Canadian experience" they are forced to stay out of their professions. The whole idea behind this Scam is to have an abundance of cheap labour.

A Canadian would much rather be treated by someone with a doctorate from U of T or McGill Then the University of Shithole Third World Country. Though I am educated, I choose to work in the Trades, and I can verify personally that a majority of these so called "Skilled Tradesman" that come here dont know jack shit about their supposed trade.

oh! racism in australia, of course pertains to the indian student issue, no? indian students were still unrepresented in crime statistics - but when you live in low, socio-economic areas in large cities and venture out late at night using public transport (trains) and work typically high risk jobs (eg: petrol station attendants/cab drivers), you of course put yourselves at much higher risk rates of of being subjected to crimes.

Furthermore, bringing children into this world, into families that are broken or single-parent families might not be that ideal (esp since ur idea would be to have no abortions at all- rape victims would give birth etc) and may by all means be worse than highly-skilled and well-adjusted individuals from overseas.

@emoweixian - There are plenty of whites from Europe and South Africa who would love to come here, but are forbidden because our politicians continue to worship the false gods of political correctness and multiculturalism. W have growing ethnic gangs in every city, multiple language services, driving licence tests in NINE languages and ethnic schools poping up everywhere. By far the biggest group coming here is still east Indians. Do we really need more cab drivers and pizza delivery people?

@emoweixian - We need immigrants, but not the kind that are turning entire areas into ethnic ghettoes. By importing huge numbers of East Indians, Africans and Muslims, we are literally killing Canada. But then again, all the politicians want is their votes isn't it? Immigration Minister Jason Kenney waffles on about theior Charter Rights, but what about the rights of Canadians who want Canada to remain Canada and not become a mirror image of some Third World dump?

@bgibb101 Like i replied to u in a personal message: I agree, your politicians should work to improve the quality of the immigrants. Either vote the incumbent out or form your own party :) i'm sure if it is as bad as you make it sound lots of voters and politicians of high calibre will gravitate to your cause. It's after all a populist kind of proposal (in this case populist but constructive at the same time)

@101andrewj - "Diversity' is killing Canada. Most visible minorities are here for the economic benefits and healthcare. They live in their own (growing) ethnic enclaves, with little interaction with the rest of society. Why do we have a black only school in Toronto, or Muslim only schools, or middle schools for Chinese kids? I got chatting to a beautiful Muslim girl in a Tim Horton's recently, only watch her being berated by her parents for talking to a "kaffur.' Yeah, diversity!

what you described is a attempt to keep culture around. if we took all the immigrants and thru them into a white school system we would be changing them. but alowing a muslim to study in a muslim school or a chinese kid in a chink school promotes cultural differences. it is true that alot of people come to canada simply to take advantage of its highly devloped social assistance programs like welfare.. and as my family has been here for over 100 years, i dont like it, but this happens everywere

@101andrewj - Were not 'keeping culture alive.' You don't need self-segregation to do that. The Multicultural Act encourages segregation, not integration. Canada will become nothing more than a 4,000 mile long landmass made up of different languages,. cultures, religions, etc, but with no cohesive national identity. In 30 years from now, white Canadians will be a minority in their own country. Is this good? Even the leaders of Germany and the UK recently stated that multiculturalism has failed.

Canadians mistook his arrogance for intellectual brilliance, and his contempt for democracy and was demonstrated when he gave newspaper reporters the one-fingered salute. In 1968, when Trudeau became our PM, Canada was a powerful and wealthy Euro-centric nation.

A world traveler, Trudeau professed to be a "citizen of the world," and admired Marx. When he became Prime Minister in 1968, he signed "friendship' agreements with the USSR, made Fidel Castro his best pal, and allowed Cuba to set up shop in Montreal where they spied on the USA. He took his sons to the USSR and pointed to a city bult by forced labour and proclaimed it to be the 'way of the future." He trashed the once powerful Canadian military, and forced the french language onto the nation.

Trudea was born into a wealthy Francophone/Anglophone family. He lived a spoiled, pampered life as a champagne socialist without having to a day's work in his life. In WW2 when young Canadian men were dying in their thousands to liberate Europe from Nazi tyranny, Trudeau rode around Montreal on his motorcycle, wearing a German soldier's helmet to "protest" the war. Protected by money and class, he studied at Harvard and in London, and became a professor in Law.
