Listening to this some forty years on, and it's every bit as good as when they first performed it. This is genius alright. And you wont find it in any pop format on offer today. Forget it! Only one Lennon and Macca - only one Beatles.
It's not quite the first one. "See My Friends" by The Kinks, which came out four-ish months before, had a distinct Indian sound, but this is the first one to have a sitar. Gorgeous songs, both of them.
What a song - Ravi Shankar and Anil Baghwat pure artistry.....and my favourite group of all time.....Paul's falsetto is brilliant... you will be missed boys....xx
For me, this song represents someone that I lost and loved just too much, it brings back many good memories... the other day that I was eating lunch and Norwegian Wood started playing on the speakers of the restaurant I couldn't stop a tear falling from my eye. Now I understand how Toru, the character from Haruki Murakami's book, must had felt on that airplane.
what was the rumor about this song that Lennon was saying he was a cheating on his wife by not really telling her but i got to say the song is a clue thats what i think
This was my first LP as a 7 year old in 1965 and this was my favorite tune. Incredibly, I just noticed its a waltz - that's right folks, its in 3/4 time.
@piccinini02 Well obviously you are not going to see people dancing a waltz to it.Most musicians however know that when you say waltz you are refering to a song in the time signatures I mentioned
@piccinini02 I'm a music major in college and it is definitely in 6/8 time. This could well be a waltz if someone wanted to dance to it in that way I guess. It's just the style and time signature that would make it a waltz type song.
@heathermaria247 Thank you. Not that I needed such justification because I play guitar mysef and I knew I was right but it's nice to have some confirmation
