  • Sweet. I never even imagined the JP8 sounding like this!

  • I would recognize that gorgeous J8 filter in a split second anywhere! Love watching videos like this - thank you for sharing.

  • @audiotrax2000

    Thank you!

  • sounds pretty damn good to me , can i ask how you're doing the recording - interface?

these types of videos are way more informative about what a synth can do than just using a jupiter 8 to recreate well known sounds..... thanks

  • @TheZombieHolocaust

This is going direct from the mixer to the line input of the computer.

    Thanks for watching!

  • What a waste of $5,000

  • @SPAZZOID100

    Why?

    Were expecting some Duran Duran?

    Idiot!

  • @angelometz

Duran Duran is a whole lot more interesting than this NOISE here.

Let's see you sell 5,000,000 copies of this.

  • WOW. Seems the glide and LFO control on this thing is very precise. Course the driver helps. Very nice FM effects.

  • Easily the best JP8 demo on YouTube. Thanks for uploading.

  • I left this video playing while I was browsing, and I thought it was really good stuff, to everyone else complaining, your not getting anything from it, stop trolling.

It reminds me of a movie score, a very dark old grindhouse kind of flick.

  • there is something deeply gay about the 8....not bad ....just gay......very , very. gay.

  • @miltonhatchling

You're deeply wrong. Gay people made gay music with it, but that's all. Don't blame the instrument. Unless you want to sit on it!

  • @miltonhatchling Probably the whole rainbow thing it has going on...

  • Well, it's more noodling than really performing, but still, nice that you're sharing these sounds with us.

Which FX did you use ? (I mean exactly which models)

  • @Keybern

I love noodling. Hehehe. I'm a guitar player...

  • Rich and exciting sounds, very Dr Whoey Davison era. I enjoyed the start, like "Interstellar Chaos" by Harvey Bainbridge. The only bad thing is that some of the pitch bending is too much and not very musical 5:09 onwards. I like 7:10 on. I heard a new Roland SH201, not as nice as this old one! Sounds yummy and you're having fun exploring what it can give you. Keep going!

  • Play Careless Whisper please -:) no kidding man, this is one of the coolest takes on YT at such a one-of-a-kind machine and you managed to make an extremely meaningful statement about its sonic richness. To me this is more likely to be a JP-8 SOLO than . . well you know. BTW, where is the alto sax preset on this ugly machine ???????

  • @pianist007

    Thanks!

The alto sax is right after the tenor, before the trumpet! :)

  • I love mine so much!

  • amazing... makes me want to sell my little brother and get this machine!

  • Noooo!

    Don't sell it!

Did you know that "Little Brother" is and amazing little synth by ARP!

  • thanks for the upload, using synths for something a little more creative than re-hashing old vibes. keep it up uploader! ;)

  • You're welcome!

    Thank you! :)

  • huh finally some interesting jp8 demo. i don't get it why some people buying such an expensive monster just to play some cheesy 80s songs and treat it like a preset rompler. this synth just beg for some experimenting. i'm glad you do realize that sir. 5

  • Thanks for whatching!

  • @michal23pl

I'd rather hear melodies than experimental sci-fi krap like this!!!

  • @SPAZZOID100 Then why do you keep coming back to post comments? Make your own music and let this guy make his.

  • i feel much better seeing a precious jp8 owned by an innovative person like the one making this demo, rather than those pathetic ones trying to play duran duran or some other cover shit with their jp8's.

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Sorry, man. but you playing nothing special. Just number of chaotic voices, playing with OSC`s.. Even if it as early berlinschool or avangard. Very poor video.

  • Sorry for what? Who said it's special? Are you stupid?

  • whats with all the bashing?!

a demo like this is a million times more revealing of what this machine can do than the countless videos of people playing cover melodies with the presets!

  • Thank you!

  • brilliant!

  • Thank you!

  • Yes, good video. Great magic sounds. What's man created that unbelievable beatiful thing!?

  • this is the best jup 8 vid on YT.

  • Thanks a lot!!!

  • this thing is great for electronic music and horror soundtracks

  • Indeed!!!

  • 5 stars. could you also make beats with the jupiter 8?

  • You could, but I woudn't. :)

  • I have to agree with you on this one. it does not take a genius to preform filter sweeps on a latched arpeggiator.

there is no skill in what he is doing. a monkey can probably do it.

sick ass synth though for sure.

  • Hmmm! That's all you hear? Filter sweeps? A monkey have better ears than you! :) And in any case, I'm just having fun, not pretending to be a genius. I'm fairly new to synthesis, and everyone of my videos shows another learning experience. I hope you learn some manners.

  • Nice hands

  • I think this sounds great. I own 14-bit JP-8. And it's great to hear someone actually playing and improvising on it, rather than people playing demos of their JP-8s for sale, this is the first true performance of the JP-8 on YouTube. Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • How much you got?

  • this sounds like an 80s horror movie soundtrack, very nice

  • Thanks!

  • Damn..now that is Creepy:) yeh Amazing;)

id KILL to have a JP-8 Sitting around here where i can also improvise:(

  • Don't kill me! :)

  • ok Cough it up:P:P

    neway...nice work d00d:)

  • i want this machine so much !!!!! To bad it cost so much money nowadays, and its so hard to get one, its unaccesibble for me, i am a poor loser, but this thing is all i want in my life, and i will never have one that kills me !!!!! :(

  • Be positive and be patient. I never even dreamed of owning all the synths I own, but opportunities happen. I got lucky and found real bargains. Save and wait for the right moment. I paid what is a fraction of todays "market" price for mine .

Good luck and don't get discouraged!

  • thank you for your kind words ! But my problem is the money, i need to take two Jobs to afford one.

  • Like Angelo says, be patient. Got my JP-8 for a 1/3 of the ebay price. Deals like this show up every now and then. Let's stop the maniac overpricing on these machines. And take care of them - treasure them, treat them well and make good music with them!

  • I agree completely with angelometz, cause that's somewhat how I got my synth collection too...just keep that sweet obsession of yours in your heart, TR0jAX ...a JP-8 might come and pass your way, whether sooner or later...never lose hope!

  • I want to buy a synth but I can hardly find any secondhand where I live. They say don't buy one without seeing it and don't have it posted. So what do you do, buy from an ad and hope it works when it comes? Seems a big risk!

  • Incredible performance! Love the experimental sound. And of course- INCREDIBLE synthesizer. Jupiter 8, the mack daddy.

  • Thanks!

  • This is a very cool performance! I really like a lot such mad crazy electronic sessions with no idea where it may lead to :-)

  • Thanks!

  • beautiful portamento/EG->pitch mod :D

most synths don't sound near as good doing this type of stuff

  • Thanks man!

  • This is a solo? ..It's more like sound FX.

Kool sounds, but i'd love to hear something more musical on the jupiter.

    DR. SEX

  • one person = solo

    two people = duo

    three = trio

    four = quartet

I'll let you figure out the rest.

Oh! And please, let me know what "more musical" means to you. Do you have a scale? Or a mesuring device? How "musical" was this in your scale or device?

  • "Musical" means as in "displaying musical content and technique"

Your "solo" is nothing more than sci-fi sound fx, and atonal ones at that.

You want to hear a real solo? Go and listen to some Herbie Hancock or George Duke albums..THAT'S what soloing is.

    MR. FUNK

  • You are very narrow minded. You fail to understand the "display of musical content and technique" of this "solo". And just for the record: I really like Herbie and Duke. I wonder what they would think of your "comment".

  • Straight up, angelometz. Keep up the good work.

  • Its actually alot in the vein of early 50's electronic music, instead of hand building all of your circuits, your using the mother of all analog polys, the JP8. One day I hope to get one, in the mean time, I got an Andromeda A6.

  • One more thing: The arpeggiator timing glitch at 4:56, and a few times later on, came as a relief to me, as I thought only mine did that. I think the CPU just can't keep up when it starts remembering too many notes played. A nice feature on this synth, regardless.

Is that an external ringmod or the crossmod at 7:31 on?

  • I think all jups do that. Tha arpeggiator on the juno is much tighter.

  • These comments are very revealing of what peoples' expectations are, despite never actually playing one. Can't say that I blame some of the bitterness, with only about 3000 made, and prices being so high now.

I liked this performance and would say it's a great demonstration of unusual sonic timbre's achievable with the instrument live.

The JP8 has one of my favorite flavors of filter and I'll cherish mine until either I or it dies. We need more JP8 vids on youtube, so Bravo to your performance!

  • I realy like your video!! And fun reading some reactions ;-) But I'm feelin it! 5 Star!

  • lol damn people take your videos seriously. i liked this.

  • Thanks!

Yeah! Too seriously! Ehe! The comments are as much fun as making the vids.

  • hi

i live in england and i am trying to get my hands on an original jupiter 8 but at the moment no luck.

this vid is awsome the sounds are amazing.

at 2.15 this sound reminds me of the 1950's sci-fi film classic forbiden planet.

i would also be very grateful if you can tell me the amplification you are using.

i have a budget of £5k to include purchasing a jupiter 8 and accociated applification.

    carry on the great work.

  • Hi! Thanks for watching. For this vid the Jup is going straight into a yamaha mixer and then to the computer line in. For live performance any PA will do it. For smaller gigs I prefer small PAs over a keyboard amplifier. I use a yamaha stagepass 300. Good luck with your hunt. Be patient and you'll find one. These are real solid dependable keyboards and a good synth tech can easily fix anything in it. Thanks,

    Angelo

  • hi angelo.

thanks for the response very much appreciated.

i am having no luck tracking one down yet i guess i will have to be very patient until one pops up for sale.

    all the best to you.

  • I live in australia and have a jupiter 8 for sale- its needs some work done on it though- it pauses half way through the bootup sequence.

  • Do you need JP8 for such a xxxxxx sounds??

  • Take it for what it is! And you're not really listening if you think this performance can be replicated on a different synth! Open your mind and ears!!!!

  • DOn't listent to these jaded stoic people that want you to put three major chords together.... Yourtalent is obvious. Really nice dissonant progressions with a wide range of textural harmony.

    loved it

  • I dont like orchestral sounds i hate them in movies , i like synthetic sounds but ill quit arguing with you.I only wanted to see some jp sounds , not random filter fun.Waste of time if you saying only jp8 can play random arpeggio and change resonance or cutoff of the filter.Bye.

  • Some ppl live for those cinematic orchestral filter sounds, which is why g-media made the Virtual String Machine. If you play a synth then you know that a lot of it involves pissing about until you find a sound that makes you want to sit down and rite a sound. To me the synth is a hobby I don't play to make money, this video is classic of that procrastinating attitude that attaches itself to the synthesizer and I don't see anything wrong with it.

  • If this is how you use JP8 then i suggest you to sell it and dont ask for donations. What a waste.

  • What would you do with it?

  • Hahahahahahaha!

  • yeah thats what i thought , ok make your "original" independent music with 10k $ gear and ask for donations.

  • Listen, and enjoy the sounds. Only a Jupiter 8 can do it! Brass and pads? Yeah! I produce a lot a music where I use that. But if you are really in to those sounds you should start supporting your local orchestra! Peace and music to you!

  • I would rather someone with an amazing talent like this to have the good gear and be able to focus on making music.

    Which reminds me... Donation...

  • No I'd like to hear Jupiter 8 brass pads and synthetic strings. Jupiter 8 basslines etc..

I'm into stuff like Tangerine Dream who were heavy Jupiter 8 users around 81-84.

But I like synth stuff in general... not orchestra sounds.

Look forward to hearing more of your Jupiter 8

  • Jupiter 8 is crap at bass. Discrete osc yes, but they don;t go down low enough. You'll need an Sh2 for bass. An sh2 and a jp8 will rule the analogue universe.

  • Any chance you could do another Jupiter 8 demo, but with more "musical" examples please?

Like strings, bass, brass etc examples?

  • Ehe! I think this vid is very musical! But if you refering to the original presets, they're all gonne. I just got the Jup and it came without it, but as soon as I get the original patches I'll post another vid. But if you really like the sounds you mentioned, you should look for real orchestras. Real strings, bass, brass, woodwinds, percussion,...
