  • $150 isn't really "inexpensive", perhaps "affordable" is better.

  • very useful video, thanks Greg!

  • For studio / portrait photography do you recommend the continuous lighting or would you recommend to use speed lights through the same setup (3 point lighting setup)?

  • @lallaboy1 I prefer strobe.

  • Thanks for sharing .

  • 3:39 I prefer the $50 100w-150w monolights... than the $200+ monolights...

  • how are you recording your sound?

  • hey thank you so much this was sooo helpful im just getting into studio work

  • Hey greg, have you colour corrected this video at all, or do you ever colour correct?

  • @jon11259 I think I need to start balancing my videos. I've been in the habit of never doing it for photos but video is different.

  • Damn, this is what I was looking for when I stumbled across Jared. Sorry but photo of the week is boring now, only thing I learned from him, is how to edit, and how to add a ton of contrast to an image. In no way have I learned to take a picture from him. I am a professional and do this for a living. This is the good shit! Keep the video's coming!

  • In your next vid or whatever can you explain how to use a color checker chart?

  • I haven't done any studio yet i've only used natural light so far so I Never understood what the reflector was for and you just explained it to me precisely within 5 seconds lol.

  • what will be the budget for this? Tnx! Any chances on photo critiques?

  • @lepermessiah01 Thats the best part, you can buy it as you have a need or can afford it!

  • Nice!

  • Haha you said number 2

  • Very useful video, thanks...

  • is that white light? looks yellow to me

  • @adriantrackssongs what are you referring to?

  • @gregorycazillo hey greg thanks for the answer, im a big fan of your channel and i do a bit of video too but music is my thing as you can see on my channel. Well it might be the white balance on your video camera, but to me it looks like a yellow light pointing at you instead of white light?

  • Thank you for keeping your channel informative! Learning a great deal.

  • greg could you please give some info on what type of posing chair you use and if you also use a posing table and which would you would recommend thanx

  • @desmondlaugh The best ones are stools that adjust by spinning, I have both fixed and nice ones. Even a few $20 ones from Walmart. Posing tables just depend what you need, the more adjustability the better.

  • Great video Greg, waiting for more - Thanks

  • thanks greg.. really looking forward for more tutorials on studio lighting and off camera lighting

  • Thanks, Greg! You should do a few more of these, since finding, good, reliable and constant info about strobes, softboxes, ect. seems to be much harder than other photography subjects online! Going to order my first setup this week.

Make sure to cover transmitters and receivers next time; people will probably order their first setup and be stuck after they get it! Haha.

  • Awesome, i'm getting addicted Greg. Just give us some more!

  • Thanks Greg, great advice as I wouldnt have known where to begin!

  • Thanks a lot greg... this is awesome!!!

  • I am going to buy my first light. What is the minimun power you would recommend for my first (and only for the moment) light that will also be my main light?

  • @kauxkaux I've been researching getting my first strobe (besides my SB-600) and softbox setup. I've messaged several strobists on flickr and heard back from a couple.

    What I've concluded is:

Get an Alien Bees B800 strobe

A really good softbox; the bigger the better. Rectangle for single people, octobox for single or double.

    The cybersync transmitter and receivers

And if you're going to be shooting away from power/an extension cord, get the vegabond mini battery.

  • @kauxkaux There are a lot of factors, can't really say one or another. Get the most you can for your budget.

  • Perfect timing as always, Great Video... i'm getting my first setup next week.

  • i would've prefered if you showed the equipment more close up, or atleast showed that fill light behind your camera. to give a better view of a total studio, now we just get the part where the model would be ;). walk around with your camera a bit

  • @Deweeyy I was in the model position, didn't you follow the link to my website to see the lighting diagram? Once again this is a BASICS video.

  • @gregorycazillo i knew that, and read the whole page on your website. it just seemed a nice idea. but i meant no harm with my comment. it was a great video and i liked it very much. just thought i would give some constructive critisism. :)

  • @ErnieCosmo Never tried them, maybe someday.

  • Liked it very much, thanks Greg!

  • Thank you greg! Please could you cover a little tips about lighting for product and food! Thanks !!:)

  • @movania89 From what I've read, food product photography is also alway done with natural light, so use window light.

  • Another great informative video!!! Keep you the great work.

  • Great video Greg, give's newcomers to studio photography a good basic start..

  • could you do a video on lighting in the field while working with small reptiles, insects and amphibians.

  • @1986Chaitanya Not sure that would be too popular. If I was to shoot such a thing it would probably be with natural light, no strobe or artificial light at all.

  • read your facebook page..and came to see the video.love it

  • Great work Greg! very very informative and to the point :)

  • Great video! Thanks for your time.

  • Great video, thanks Greg!

  • 10 minutes of blah, blah, blah... Not the case here... Thank you so much, Gregory. So calm so clear. This is the video I was waiting so much for!

  • nice video, 2nd :D

  • the other advantage is the modelling light isn't it ?

  • @handsomelok Definitely!
