Lol, was introducing some music to my gf. Put this on and said that people actually listen to this (making fun of it kind of). Next thing I know she is gesturing me over to the bed. Go over, we make out, I asked if the song made her horny and she said yes. Ended up fingering her and then having sex on the floor.. (song ended before sex started though) It was pretty weird.
@ToServeArmadillo well i was watching a creppy version og fluttershy's lullaby and someone posted a link on one of the comments followed it, and it led me here....and that is how the birds and the bees work my dear :D
@camoflux Most dubstep sucks, It hasn't even been around less than the 2000's seriously even when it was underground. All electronic music so far has come before dubstep. I have no clue why it's so popular when there is so much better electronic music out there like it's close relative drum and bass which has been around much longer and is 100 times better. Dubstep is pretty fun live but gets old fast.

@thedarkangelloverock but doesn't the randomness bring a sense of chaotic excitement. Repetitive rhythms along a single tempo are rather a boring thing to me. For something to go slow then fast is a good thing. I quite like the noises as well. The best thing on this album is the half second of pure noise signal on the Blocks of White light track, somewhere in the 20th minute.
im a very open minded person when it comes to music..i love em all...but someone needs to explain to me HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO ENJOY THIS SHIT?!!? lol
@harut93 just like all inaccesible music, you just gotta give it a chance. i mean, the first 5 times i listened to merzbow, i thought it was pretty damn weird myself. but, as i listened more and more to the music, i discovered that you should not try and find any kind of organised orchestration, if that makes sense. rather, just let the wall of sound wash through your system, it really is worth it when you start liking it:)
@mehdinadif Yeah. I appreciate the process of how this kind of music is produced. To make this guys sounds isn't as easy as putting a guitar through effects.
@harut93 In fact, Merzbow's music is pretty well organized. Sounds he is using as a material for his creations are "unorthodox", as we are used to music being "made of" violins, pianos and electric guitars, not hiss, hum or electronic signals, but once you get used to sounds that are usually associated with something unpleasant, you start to appreciate elaborate constructions. Also, to fully understand noise, you should go to live performance and feel with your whole body how noise surrounds you
@harut93 Enjoy by liking noise. By liking washing waves of static white hiss, fluctuating lines of pure thin screech, bulldozing blocks of loop, crunchy snap of deep bass.
@harut93 By having knowledge in sound physics :: That kind of ''music'' is applicated physics (soundwave---noise (white, pink, red, brown etc)
There is a ''rythmic aspect too''; cyclic etc
Its to ''feel'', connect with laws in the world around you:: not to fulfill your direct emotion (like lyrics in song) or to pleased your ear (tonal system, 4/4 etc)
I would say its 'intellectual' music rather than emotionnal; so you have to adapt your listening approach; the beauty is in the maths!
@astramistil1 i have to disagree. It is both, for the mind and also physical. Nothing worth while is purely mental or purely physical its all mixed together.
@harut93 Many people find noise meditative. It can calm or activate certain emotions and/or thoughts depending on the frequencies and your current internal state. It provides an interesting opportunity to, like in meditation, observe yourself think and feel. Or it's just awful shit that's worse than going to the dentist. :)
I find it amazing that people are being so negative about this. Surely you searched for Merzbow? Surely you knew what you were in for when opening a Merzbow video? I can't see how you caould accidently open this video thinking it would be the fucking Beatles or something.
The video got recommended to me by youtube. I like electronic music of all sorts, even the more abstract stuff like Aphex Twin, so I thought this would be right up my street- but I utterly detest it and the entire Noise scene. The whole 'embrace how awful it is/enjoy the lack of orchestration' comments ironically demonstrate how terrible this thing is.
Also I bet you £5 that I could go out right now, get my friend's keyboard, guitar, a copy of some music software, then go and make up any fucking noise I wanted using household utensils and the aforementioned instruments, record the result, alter it beyond all recognition, add in some TV static and you wouldn't know the difference between that and Merzbow, or any of the other 'artists' you choose to idolise so much. It's noise. It requires no talent to make whatsoever.
I do commend you for being open minded and at least trying out this video. I must say it's quite a leap from Aphex Twin, which is pretty accessible really. I would try the likes of Pan Sonic, Alva Noto and the Raster Noton label as a better introduction to quality 'noise' music, although I hate the term noise too. The above music has roots in techno, punk, metal, hardcore and all sorts of genres. 'Noise' is just a lazy categorization.
@murraymach3 people that berate other's creative output are really struggling, lame footed "individuals" that sorely belong to the herd as much as they scream to be known otherwise.
@samuelgperry Xome's been doing this since 1989 and releases "music" constantly. they take this seriously. if they didn't I don't think they'd show their faces and shit.
@waltermh111 So rap isn't music either... whatever, man. Your opinion is your opinion, as is your definition of music, which I'm curious to know. But to listen to the many, many textures and sounds this composition has, that other noise music has... it's a fascinating experience and trip for your mind. I love it.
And I like all forms of music, across many genres, except classical. I've tried getting into it; not too inspiring.
@EternalSoul175 For rap, i meant in terms of quality, not the debate over whether its music or not, but yeah, I dont think its music. Everytime i am forced to listen to it at work i wonder where the music is at.
Definition of music is something thats not this video or rap. Simple enough. I wont play semantics here as its my opinion after all.
But your taling about tripping, maybe you should get off the drugs and see if you still enjoy it.
@waltermh111 Fair enough, but no, I wasn't talking about tripping off drugs... I wasn't talking about tripping on anything at all. I don't take any sort of drugs. That's just how I enjoy noise; take in all and listen to all the different sounds and textures that layer themselves upon each other, because, you know, these "songs" are composed and meticulously edited when put together.
At a reasonable volume, I don't get headaches at all. And this goes for listening to all sound, doesn't it?
we had a song a little like that with my band, with distorted vocals in the background, last time we rehearsed it my dad heard us from the next room and though we broke all amps at first, and when he realized nothing was out of order, he called us nutcases! haha
It's okay that you dislike this, but calling people who like it "insane" is a bit unwarranted. People like different things; I personally love the noise genre and hate the R&B genre. You seem to be quite the opposite, and that's alright. So please, step off of your high horse, learn the elementary concept of "preferences," and kindly fuck off :D
@BLaZERaMPaGE That's sort of the point to the creative process. If you make something YOU like, others will most likely like it. If your goal is to make something others will like, you'll make trash of no artistic value what so ever (hip hop, r&b and other MTV crap)
@BLaZERaMPaGE i think Luigi Russolo said it best in 1913 in his manifesto The Art of Noise.
Copied from wiki "He notes that while early music tried to create sweet and pure sounds, it progressively grew more and more complex, with musicians seeking to create new and more dissonant chords. This, he says, comes ever closer to the "noise-sound."
@BLaZERaMPaGE "Russolo compares the evolution of music to the multiplication of machinery, pointing out that our once desolate sound environment has become increasingly filled with the noise of machines, encouraging musicians to create a more "complicated polyphony" in order to provoke emotion and stir our sensibilities. He notes that music has been developing towards a more complicated polyphony by seeking greater variety in timbres and tone colors."
@BLaZERaMPaGE that being said, i feel it is only natural that people will come to aquire a taste for noisy machinelike harsh sounds, and those that don't evolve musically as quickly as others will be slower to adapt to it and instead of seeing it as music, will fail to understand it.
music is sound fool. it's just a matter of how it's arranged.
this is the music of the future! Merzbow is way ahead of his time.
@xPikaWolfx I'd start by using a music notation software. Saving it as a wav. using microsoft recorder to make it really fast and reverbing it so much it becomes almost staticky. maybe mix it with another track or two, and then save that. convert to mp3.
@xPikaWolfx you should invest in old analogue equipment, or any kind of old sound producing machine that you can electrically amplify. guitar amps work nicely for things like that. a gristleizer is also a great noise tool.
UM WHAT LOL? Is this seriously a song? I can appreciate almost any type of music but this almost instantly gave me a headache. I cannot stand this sound, I don't know how you guys can.
I can't wait for the Pony Music Video of this.

wtf? wtf is the point of this. i mean just put a radio in the shower and run the water full blast on the radio and itll probably sound like this.

"man u could make anything and there will be some people out there who love it."
indeed, but is that necessarily a bad thing?

@BLaZERaMPaGE That's sort of the point to the creative process. If you make something YOU like, others will most likely like it. If your goal is to make something others will like, you'll make trash of no artistic value what so ever (hip hop, r&b and other MTV crap)

@BLaZERaMPaGE i think Luigi Russolo said it best in 1913 in his manifesto The Art of Noise.
Copied from wiki "He notes that while early music tried to create sweet and pure sounds, it progressively grew more and more complex, with musicians seeking to create new and more dissonant chords. This, he says, comes ever closer to the "noise-sound."
donotseemecricket 1 year ago
@BLaZERaMPaGE "Russolo compares the evolution of music to the multiplication of machinery, pointing out that our once desolate sound environment has become increasingly filled with the noise of machines, encouraging musicians to create a more "complicated polyphony" in order to provoke emotion and stir our sensibilities. He notes that music has been developing towards a more complicated polyphony by seeking greater variety in timbres and tone colors."

@donotseemecricket And yet most machines dont even sound like this and are getting quieter with time.
Quieter fans, energy producers with more things run on battery and renewables, etc...
So it sure wont involve into this if hes right.
waltermh111 11 months ago
@BLaZERaMPaGE that being said, i feel it is only natural that people will come to aquire a taste for noisy machinelike harsh sounds, and those that don't evolve musically as quickly as others will be slower to adapt to it and instead of seeing it as music, will fail to understand it.
music is sound fool. it's just a matter of how it's arranged.
this is the music of the future! Merzbow is way ahead of his time.
donotseemecricket 1 year ago
@donotseemecricket You just made no sense.
It isnt even logical.
waltermh111 11 months ago
Damn, imagine the mastering you have to do making noise tracks. That would be a tedious job.

Beginning is so melodic. Almost sounds like drums being used., Maybe they are; I wouldn't know, haha. But I love the beginning anyway.

Wow, awesome. I'm trying to make noise music atm... harder than it seems at first :x
xPikaWolfx 1 year ago
@xPikaWolfx I'd start by using a music notation software. Saving it as a wav. using microsoft recorder to make it really fast and reverbing it so much it becomes almost staticky. maybe mix it with another track or two, and then save that. convert to mp3.

@PoYrRg I've been using Audacity and some plugins.

@xPikaWolfx
I use a Kaoss pad, drums run through effects, vocals, and household items.
vaguelyhumanoid 1 year ago
@xPikaWolfx you should invest in old analogue equipment, or any kind of old sound producing machine that you can electrically amplify. guitar amps work nicely for things like that. a gristleizer is also a great noise tool.

I love the varied textures and pulsating rhythm, plus the sheer cathartic volume and great production quality.
Why do you like Opeth?
