Maybe the reason boys are more concerned with activities outside of school is that they aren't allowed to do enough physical hands on tasks or because they aren't given reading material that relates to their favorite activities. The depiction of boys doing macho things like getting into fights has a lot ot do with a lack of constructive activities to occupy their need for physical activity. That angle ought to be explored more.

@prschuster And because boys are the majority in trade skill jobs. Women do the easy, less dangerous stuff.

@jayc342009 Men definitely do more physically dangerous jobs. But women gravitate towrd emotionally taxing occupations like nursing terminally ill patients and teaching a room full of roudy 4th graders. I believe there will always be a difference between men & women. It's time to stop pretending that gender is just a "social construct".
