@456972 I dont know what part of New Mexico you are talking about but I have been working and living in New Mexico for the past 2 years and most of the people here are hispanic. True, there are some cities in the state that are mostly white but from Las Cruzes to Alberquerque all you see is Latinos. Hell, I will go as far as to say that the predominant language spoken in a lot of areas of the state is Spanish.

Mexicans are not the only illegal immegrants in the US and it bothers me when t.v or the news talk immigration they tend to always show video of Mexicans. I was brought here illegally when I was like 3 since then my family and I have obtained legal and permanant residency to live here in the US which I consider my home. There are public health issues, too. Canadians don't come here infected with TB & GI tract diseases, but many from Mex & Central America do. True, there are some cities in the state that are mostly white but from Las Cruzes to Alberquerque all you see is Latinos. Hell, I will go as far as to say that the predominant language spoken in a lot of areas of the state is Spanish.

@bboucharde I'm not making up numbers, when I was doing my Green card process I was going very often to the immigration offices and getting all the literature I could get a hand on, so maybe you are right,there are more COMBINED people from other Central American countries than Canada, but on the literature I got with the list of countries with Illegal immigrants Canada was second ( I have to say a very distant second) also not all Illegals come to work in vegetable fields or jobs like it.

@Dasein512 Thanks for the note. Several sites I visited indicate that there are approx 75,000 Canadian illegals here, which is a tiny % of the # of Mex and Central Americans. There are public health issues, too. Canadians don't come here infected with TB & GI tract diseases, but many from Mex & Central America do. Canada is a developed first-world nation with many cultural, legal, & linguistic similarities with the Anglo majority that is the backbone of the USA. Mexico is not. See page 2.

@Dasein512 Yes, I agree that vegetable harvesting is only one of many jobs that illegals do. They are heavily concentrated in food processing, food service, and motel/hotel industries, among others. But, their work in vegetable & fruit harvesting is important, & I support a carefully managed program to allow them to continue doing this, with appropriate housing, worker safety, etc. --- AFTER the employer makes an effort to hire US citizens for the same work.

I'm a immigrant, albeit a legal one, so don't get me wrong but I believe I have a more objective perspective on the whole immigration issue. For me there are misconceptions from both sides.From the conservatives there is a little bit of racism, Canada is the country that has the second largest number of Illegals in the US and you don't hear anything about it. Liberals patronize and look at immigrants always as victims. I believe, FIRST- whether republicans like it or not you have (CONT. ABOVE)

as far as illegal immigration goes, i couldn't care about papers (unless it's a terrorist risk of course) but as long as EVERYONE pays their own way (taxes, pays for their children, etc etc) then i couldn't give two shits, as long as it doesn't bankrupt the country, though realistically we can't absorb so many people at once.

Anchor children are what's behind many of these drives. Part of the issue are not the laws, but the lawyers. Immigration law is big business and big bucks. The process is very difficult, and can run into thousands of dollars, per person. And the difficulties are for every immigrant wanting to come into the US. Instead of running out of Mexico and bringing crime here, stay there and better your homeland.

Every journey begins with that first step. Now that Albuquerque has taken the first step, after giving it time to sink in, the next thing they will do of course is to expand the efforts to check for all illegal aliens. Not just those caught in the act of committing a crime. Anyone who enters our country illegally has already broken a felony criminal statute, thereby making them a criminal. So why wait till they commit yet more crimes?
