What's so incredibly stupid (speaking about the management for a bit), is that they had the Touchpad on shelves for a MONTH. You can't make rational decisions for a product's future after a month. They basically said that because tablets seem to be the future, that's why they'll be spinning off their computer division.

BUY WEBOS and APPLY to the plain simple iOS the MULTITASKING MAGIC from WebOS.

I own a palm phone and i agree that the app store is pathetic. Even opening an built-in app takes forever to load, such as the camera. Once i got the phone, verizon did not support backup assistant with palm, so i had to download a third party program to transfer my contacts. Contacts are miserable.. they sync everything together so all my email, facebook and IM contracts were added to my contacts book. I did however, manage to sort out my contracts but it took very long. Hurry up iphone 5 Lol

I like Webos and as you have said it is or could be a great competitor to the iPhone. I don't want apple to own it as they would kill it of obviously. I hope HTC pick it up along with samsung and do something with it and get rid of the old form factor slide design . One great aspect about it is it's notifications and also multitasking. HP should sell it to HTC asap!
The saddest part was the potential of WebOS. It was probably the most promising alternative to iOS. When Steve Jobs said at the iPad 2 announcement, "This year will be the year of the copycats." he wasn't kidding. He was right. Many copycats with no real successors to the iPad. Hmm maybe if I can find a HP Touchpad on clearance for $299 I will buy it to toy with!
If HP are going into primarily software as their main focus. I hope to god it's a damn sight better than the shit they currently make, because my god. HP make some of the WORST software I have EVER EVER used. It's just so poorly designed and coded, and I used Adobe stuff! So that's saying something! lol
The reasons they sold the hardware business was because of the volatility of the market (partly due to the impact of the iPad). i totally disagree with it. HP failed webOS.

HP sells cheap, hot and FAT laptops and the build quality is rubbish. Every HP laptop I've own is damn hot and all of them got hardware problems! (my mom got burns from the HP Envy in my local computer store, and the computer had been on just for a couple of hours)
but, HP makes really good servers and workstations for businesses (and software if you are using windows).
I think WebOS has some really good features, but I can't see my self using WebOS primary compare to Android or iOS.
@DRBUK Microsoft seem to have pulled the plug on Windows Home Server (well, the newer version is like a really half assed subset of what the previous version had, which makes it kind of a waste of time), so I think HP couldn't be arsed with support something Microsoft made that wasn't all that attractive to customers.
Sad to see Web OS go... I really liked it. Now up front I am an Iphone 4 user... However I did enjoy Web OS. I thought it was laid out nice. The tablet to me was much simpler in design than the Motorola Xoom. OS of Motorola Xoom was chaotic at best. It was very confusing.
I hope they can make some kind of return. I think they should have licensed the OS to other phone manufactures.
