epion there is a lot of really good music of today. even mainstream. check out adele or amy winehouse, they got soul dawn. but nothing will ever top that era for sure.
this one video defines "soul" more completely then words ever could. Otis has been gone 44 years today and I love and appreciate his music more then ever.
I remeber when I was 10 and they showed then recovering his boddy from the crashed plane. I used to have this album, yes it was montery pop. one side was ottis, the other side was jimi hendrix
Love it!!! Back when music had soul. I love everything about that era. The style, the cars, the music, the clothes. Look at the music today and see how far America has fallen. Back then, it was about the music. Today it is about the money.
ctownz, you make some very good points. However blacks are always complaining about being treated like criminals so maybe young black men should stand up and stop singing about violence. You say music doesnt cause violence, let me ask you this,if they played Otis & Al Green at the club do you think fights and killings would occur?
When the people running the industry only look for black female singers and seem only interested in black males who rap then this is a result. Plus I agree with the point that music doesn't cause crime. The blame falls exclusively on the individuals.
i agree with u and im 23 yrs old.. if music was liek it was back then it would be much less crime.. cause people wouldnt be worried about gettin money, hoes, cars, and etc but would be focused on being happy cause money dont buy true happiness.. thats my opinion
sorry sir but dont blame blacks.Hip hop use to have something to say but marketing people seen that violence sold especially to suburban white kids. Now they put out music that perpetrates hate because thats where the money is.I know you know better to think that all marketing people are all african american. Also you cannot blame music for dumb peoples actions
What a great emotion, what a great song, what a fabulous singer. This is an all time classic. It is sad that "Sittin on the Dock of the Bay" is the song that most non-fans think of when they hear his name. I really do like the song but don't rate it in his top 5.
W/digital editing & corrective tech for pitch, tone & rhythm, (heck, most 'vocal' riffs lately are the singer's voice loaded into a keyboard!), it's rare, if ever, that you'll hear a true vocal performance. A well financed tour can even use this stuff at 'live' shows. Knowing they can 'fix it' has created an entirely different mind-set in modern 'singers'. Not a good one. "yianpap" you posted: "No offense to Justin Timberlake"? I say: Hell -yes-, offense! -To him- & -by- him!
Indeed. He hosted the episode that he sang on, bringing in other soul greats like Sam & Dave. Standing beside the other performers reveals Otis's incredible physical presence, making Sam, Dave & English fans like Eric Burden look like little children following behind him.
Otis remains the great anomaly of pop/soul: Tone, phrasing, melodies & lyrics w/a long, deep, full life of experience behind them, (all due credit to Steve Cropper's immense contribution & the MGs' perfectly understated backing), yet "Dock" is the only tune recorded at, (barely), 26 , the bulk of OR's hits having been released at ages 21-23! This level of maturity & sensitivity in such a young man is astounding beyond comprehension & unique to this one great man.
There were singers out there who had wider vocal ranges, more diversity, etc... but nobody had the soul that only Otis could bring. Man, this guy just breaks your heart with deep and beautiful emotion. Otis is humanity at its best. Wow.
Otis Redding's version of White Christmas can paint a Norman Rockwell like picture of Christmas. During Christmas our family would get together at Grandpa Tahiliani's Ranch deep in the rocky mountains of eastern Idaho. We would sip homemade hot chocolate next to the fireplace singing along to Otis Redding on Grandpa Tahiliani's 8 track tape player what a joyous time we had. Thanks Mark Tahiliani
I remember Otis Redding's I Got Dreams,Been Loving You Too Long, and These Arms of Mine. Played Otis Redding songs hundreds of times with the Casuals, Cadillacs, Impacts and Heartbreaks (1964 through 1969). Andy Jackson was THE BEST Otis Redding Singer I have heard. If you heard Jackson, then you heard Otis. Nobody could sing Otis Redding like Jackson. You could Close your eyes and Otis was singing. Andy if you read this, reply. I'm still picking, singing & Kicking.
This mans music brings tears to my eyes so filled with powerful and deep emotions! IF you are not emotionally moved by this song you are 6 feet under! Remarkable musical talent love his powerful feelings so sincere so touching..
Male or female; black, white or asian; young or old... how in the hell could anyone listen to this man and not be deeply moved and touched by his genuiness and depth. What a gifted talent that was taken so young.
I've never seen this footage with this but the audio was on the best of CD, I used to sing to when i was in college when I painted. Girls used to knock on my door a lot and ask for stuff when i was singing to Otis. Now that I look back I understand the real reason. They didn't understand it, a dude singing passionately along to Otis. But y'all get it. Otis was one of those rare guys like marvin, sam cooke, al green, that could just grab your heart and hold you there. Bless him.
C'est cette Chanson d'Otis et interprétée par Otis que je souhaite entendre le jour de mon envol pour rejoindre Flume, mon Frangin et le Père mon Papa.
he has such fantastic stage presence. Without the use of special effects, props, dancers, any other distraction, lesser singers would employ, he's still able to capture one's attention. Amazing talent.
Fortunately, this performance was recorded. Monterey was a 1967 Festival that gave Otis, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and The Who their first big exposure in America. This is where Hendrix lit his guitar on fire at the end of his performance of 'Wild Thing'. A performance like this one here by Otis, makes it all the more difficult to see or hear most 'performers' these days, or to listen to them be praised.
Why do all of the great die before they reach 40? He will, in my opinion, be the greatest singer, because he make you feel the pain in every love song that he sang. This is the song that help me to get the courage to want to beg for my wife to remarry me. Please pray for me on this endeavor. There is one one thing about being wrong is admitting that you are wrong
I listened to Otis redding when i was just a little boy, because my mother and father were great fans. That's why till this day i love his music. His music is lifetime music. It doesn't matter in what year we're in. His music and words still will hit you.
I was 20 years old when Otis died in that plane crash. I felt as though I'd lost a relative. His music touched my heart from the time I first heard that voice. It still gives me chills. If you read his bio, you'll see they didn't even want to record him at first... What a loss that would have been.
