Etta James is a legend just as Aretha Franklin is. I think what upset her was that she wasn't asked to participate in this event but a song she is famous for was given to sing to a up and wanna be legend "Beyonce". Beyonce did a good job, but it is and always will be Etta James song. Etta just let her hurt feelings show. She's entitled because she should not have been overlooked for this honor if they wanted to use this song.

@idetached I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!! I'm not one of these "Brain-Dead" Beyonce GROUPIES, but she did a good job on the song. Regardless of the fact that Etta did'nt write the song,SHE IS THE SINGER CREDITED FOR BRINGING THE SONG TO LIFE! Bey coulda sat this one out! But then again, Obama and Beyonce belong to the same "Organization", so of course she was chosen to sing the song. Etta James was a believer in Jesus Christ, so this is where the problem began for them......Hmmmph!

Etta James may have been upset her song was sung, but since she isn't the songwriter they didn't have a legal reason to have to ask her permission. Etta James should be embarrassed that she was so petty to go after Beyonce just for singing it, and for saying Barack was "your President, but sure not my President!" I hated the last 8yrs like a lot of others, and still George Bush was my President the whole time... even when it was embarrassing to say so!! That is what it means to be an American!

Good comment. It's not meant to be racist when you see people writing about black love. It's meant to be a positive and lift our spirits. For so long we've seen only negativity in the media about us.
