My Mom taped the Christmas Toy that year and it became a tradition to watch it every year..it's so worn out now! lol I wish television and media in general was still like this. Even though Kraft was advertising, they still managed to incorporate the importance of family and friends and it's so homey and warm :) Now it's all in your face about materialistic things and money. Nobody remembers what Christmas is all about anymore :( It's so sad...
The other problem I have with todays programming (and I use that term loosely) is that all the jokes (again I use that term loosely) are just plain MEAN. I mean back in the day yes we had violent programs people getting hit with frying pans falling off cliffs and such but the shows weren't mean spirited. The shows of today are just mean spirited jokes about pop culture references making fun of some disease or someone with a disability.
Heck gaming was even fun back then. Back then you didn't care if a game was crap you played it and had fun. Back then you could play a game and not have to worry about achievements or trophies you could play for FUN. Back then you didn't have the IGN and the like being a big cloud of doom telling you if you buy whatever game they are bashing at the time you officially suck. Back then if you didn't like a game you weren't flamed by entire legion of fanboys.
The 80's and 90's were awesome. I mean commercials were clever and funny. Shows were clever and really funny or sometimes they were just freaking awesome. Now between television and Hollywood our childhood shows and commercials have been completely destroyed. I mean honestly we have gone from Batman TAS to a baby shooting a hooker and the next door neighbor going to have sex with her dead corpse oh yeah that's entertainment oh wait no isn't.
The 80s did rock. I understand what you guys are talking about - today everything does seem to be in your face out of control. There's nothing wholesome about todays media blitz. I do miss the eighties so much (34 years old) and the way things used to be.
December just isn't the same as it once was...I'm not sure if it's because of the way things are nowadays, or I'm just being nostalgic (currently 26) but it's depressing sometimes!
I totally agree. Im 29 and things just seem so different then they were from back then. even from the 90's to now. It just seems that things have totally changed. Maybe your right though about the nostalgic part. Considering we are children any more things change as we get older. Sucks though to think that but its the truth. Hell, this year is almost done and its gone by so dang quickly.
It just seems hard to imagine how Christmas and December could be so magical as it was when we were kids with some of the things they have out nowadays. It almost makes me wish I had a time machine so I could show the younger people of today what it was like back then for us. I'm sure every generation could say the same though.
I felt the same way when I was your age - which was only five years ago. But then I had my daughter and she'll be 3 this Christmas. It really does make a difference. I think that sometimes, in today's atmosphere, it's hard to keep cynacism at bay without those little shining examples of innocence around.
That last announcer is the Cadbury cream egg person. :D

I remember theses commercials. Any chance you have the Muppets Christmas Toy and can upload it?

When I was putting these together, I checked to see if The Christmas Toy was available on DVD, and since it was, I decided not to upload it here.

I'm the same age as you are, and I agree. I just think more care and creativity was taken in marketing back when we were kids.

@ljbimoore You raise a great point...perhaps the magic will return when I can bestow it upon a younger generation.

There is something that is very calming, when you watch these holiday commercials, now a days everything jumps out at you and is very hectic.
