@Methyll I think it's read Visual Novel first before watching anime. Though Fate/Zero has the anime done pretty well and more stuff in it then the light novel.

I just thought of something. As far as I know, if Archer ever uses Excalibur it's pretty much a suicide move for him since he doesn't have the proper amount of prana required to wield it. However, would he be able to survive if someone used a command seal for him to use it? Like "I command you to use Excalibur and survive." Just something that popped up in my head and I haven't seen anything suggesting anything.
@legendarylaze He would be able to create it and even use it and not die from it. the damage potential of the weapon would simply not be reached. seems more logical to me.
@Zekeriel So he can't use Excalibur even if Rin used a command seal? Also if he "broke" Excalibur, wouldn't it be as strong as the original since if u "break" it, it raises one rank?

@legendarylaze Oh. I would have to link command seals to their function. Command seals are used to issue an "absolute command" to your servant. It can also be used to back a servant up, like in fate hollow ataraxia and fate extra.
Now, my answer to your question would be that the Excalibur traced by Archer would be an absolute failure.
@Zekeriel To add on, Archer can only compromise on the quality of the traced Excalibur if he wants to trace Excalibur and survive. This is how i think of it.
And i know i am repeating myself, but there is just no point tracing a Noble Phantasm that can take your own life, albeit being powerful and such. Sometimes, battles can be won with wits too, not just plain power.
Unless you would need that power to destroy something (like the Holy Grail in Fuyuki).
@legendarylaze its impossible in Archer's case. If he uses it, he dies, and a command seal cannot prevent one's death. In F/HA, shirou uses that command FLY with saber, causing her to be able to jump a great distance, but if you attempt to use a command seal to try to force someone to live, it will not work. When Shinji used a command seal on Rider when her stomach was sliced open and said "Get up and kill Shirou", it was a command in vein because you're trying to drink water from an empty cup.
@legendarylaze also, like Zekeriel said, projection takes a heavy toll on one's body. "Have withstood pain to create many weapons" Shirou attempts to "trace" Kanshou and Bakuya, and his conscience is already slipping. Archer does have enough prana, and even if he does, he would die nonetheless. Its like trying to force a thousand gallons on water through a pipe, water being prana and the pipe being Archer. Even if the water can get through the pipe, the pipe will break no matter what.

@legendarylaze Well Lancelot is able to Fully Mimic someones Noble Phantasm if a Command Seal is used, so perhaps Archer can conjure Excalibur and fire it with his bow! :D
@zuser Erm. Lancelot cannot "mimic" somebody else's NP. Not even if a Command Seal is being used. It is not his ability to do this. But he can make things around him his weapon.
Secondly, Archer can only conjure Excalibur in UBW. He cannot do it outside UBW. And he MUST CHANNEL prana using both of his hands for Excalibur. Thus he cannot fire it with his bow. ):
@Zekeriel But his own Noble Phantasm is "Acting" as someone else, "Glory of Someone", Type/Moon Wiki states that he may be able to mimic the person that he acts as's NP.
@zuser He 'may'. So that means that lancelot can only 'mimic' someone elses NP to a certain degree. But that also depends on the parameter of that skill named "Glory for Someone".
So far as i can remember, that parameter for this particular skill is relatively low. So i do not think he can mimic Arturia's Np.
@Zekeriel It's still a NP to be reckoned with, but just like Archers Unlimited Blade Works, can only copy something to a close degree but not perfection, it would appear that Lancalots NP might be similar in that case.

if you played heavens feel...one of the bad endings....emiya erased some of his memories to further increase his knowledge of kansho and bakuya....im not saying this is the actual route of archer.....but there is a possiblity in some other unshown route of emiya that made him erase his memories...he said it was vague because his heart can still remember like when he fought black saber he remembers with his heart that she is saber....
@newimmortal24 Nah, he partly lied. He remembered Rin partially and he hesitated to slash Saber because he knew Saber.And once he met Shirou he was 100% sure of who he was. He only forgot most events of his life due to overuse of tracing magic but he remembers all key details of his life, especially Kiritsugu,his crush on Rin and Saber and his dream of being a superhero. He even remembered the events he's had to experience as a Counter Guardian.
Actually Archer neither had amnesia or lied to Rin. He told her that he wasn't sure what hero he was; this makes sense in that Archer no longer associates himself with Shirou, therefore making him unsure what hero he would be. Then he merely suggested that perhaps a improperly performed summoning could negatively effect a servant that could cause amnesia
He lied. Background material was very detailed in explaining that. In two of the routes (where you actually find out who/what Archer is) he's lying. In the other route where he doesn't play a major role, it's left even more vague as to whether or not he lied, or whether or not its him having traveled back to an alternate timeline after already 'clearing' one or both of the other two routes, or he's lying.
Word of God dictates that Archer is not from any of the three routes or the not made Illya route. I was talking about the instance where Rin was questioning him on what hero he was, in that instance he did not lie. He stated that his memories of his life were vague, which to the battle weary EMIYA that is very true. Later on he may have started lying, but not that particular instance.
@moileben Also, this amnesia thing seems to be fishy for me. I haven't got anything to prove my point here, but my guess is that it's a farce from the beginning. Archer probably recognised Tohsaka right away and thus the fact that Shirou must be around as well. And telling Rin his true identity would have been counter-productive considering his own goal (namely: killing Shirou). And we know that Archer is a good enough field tactician to realize this. But again, this is only my guess.

@deadeye415 I did not say HF shirou does not have UBW, I said he just can't use it. Archer's et HF Shirou's world are differents, Shirou has to create his own Reality Marble (like you said, Rin can train him) instead of copying Archer's Reality Marble like he did in the UBW route.
Also I did not know that Archer could read the wielder's skill, then yes, maybe he could have used Hercules' NP like Shirou did.
But still, from my P.O.V, HF Shirou and Archer are not the same person. :)
Originally Archer would have born as the result of a fourth route, that was dropped because of lack of time. This route would have made Illya the main heroine. The story would go something like this: Shirou falls in love with Illya, but since she is not human, she dies a year after the end of the Grail wars, no matter what. That makes Shirou realize that no matter what he does or have done, he couldn't save the dearest to his heart.
After this, he looses his purpose to live and goes on with saving others, not caring about the cost. In the end, he ends up saving a lot of people and killing even more. Yet nobody ever thanks his efforts, since nobody understands his motives behind his actions, hence everybody finds him somewhat suspicious. In the end he realizes, that his whole life and his existence afterwards as a heroic spirit is entirely pointless and his true goals cannot ever be achieved.
@Warfoki One thing you forgot to mention was that the Heroic Spirit system in itself was the final nail in the coffin. The HS are only summoned when the world is on the verge of destruction to kill those responsible. So instead of saving people as a HS, Shirou ended up just killing those responsible after they had already done their damage.
isn't shirou borrowed all of his skill from archer ?, he even overloaded his own brain with archer knowledge & experiences to the death (v.s Saber Alter).
I think archer not being able to use materialization magic is a bit stupid. A Guardian that gone through countless number of battlefields undefeatable in the future , but without realizing how to use materialization magic is retarded.
deadeye415 I was talking about NLBW, yes he used projection to create Berserker's sword, but even if Shirou is strong with Archer's arm, he can't fight with such a huge sword.
That's why he used materialization, he imagined the strength of his opponent in his arm, he imagined also a variation of Hercules NP.
HF Shirou and Archer are NOT the same person, because Shirou betrayed his ideals he won't become Archer. If they were the same person then HF Shirou would have been able to use UBW.

@moileben What are you talking about? Of course Shirou uses projection. He states it many times in the novel. They're the same person, so they obviously use the same magic. Moreso for HF Shirou, because he uses ARCHER's arm.
I'm siding with Lancer in this fight overall; Saber and Shirou killing Berserker in one hit wasn't "blantant cheats", it's just that the sword was strong enough to kill him FIVE TIMES OVER in one swing. I remember Saber saying that Gae Bolg uses very little Mana, making it ideal for repeated use. Lancer could easily spam it twelve times in a row and take Berserker down.
Lancer could get a few Kills in using Gae Bolg, yet Berserker still has enough lives stockpiled. Berserker would probably outlast lancer and end up winning. Tbh the only reason Emiya and Saber won was because of using blatant cheats and taking multiple lives with one hit...
@12345tay54321 You also have to remember that Lancer has Battle Continuation that allows him to live until a decisive fatal kill is given to him. With his Agility at A rank, he is much faster than Berserker and has an advantage with range due to the length of his weapon. With Disengage, he can escape from the battle and return to his original stats before said battle, leaving Berserker with less lives the next time Lancer attacks him.
@zerohour20XX The only flaw in your argument, Berserker also has an A rank Agility and the same Battle Continuation thus making him more advantaged over Lancer in general with the emphasis on "in general" since this is Fate/Stay night and anything goes. :P
@Sadkirby True, but we also have Lancer that has the Rune ability that is barely even covered except for in UBW at the end and only with one rune. That sort of thing could totally turn around a battle with that kind of enigma.
@zerohour20XX I'm just joining in a few days late and I haven't read your entire conversation, but about the A rank agility tie...I'm of the opinion that Lancer would have better Agility as a result of his smaller frame. Berserker can still be nimble, but it's easier to move a smaller frame. As for Battle Continuation: The descriptions say Berkserkers is the ability to stay alive, but Lancer's is "does not give up easily", even though the basic ability is the same.
So I listened to the guitar version of this and thought "Nothing can top this!". I saw this and expected it to be a bad version of it. It turned out to be way better! OH CRAP THIS IS AMAZING!
Lancer's speed is faster than Berseker's... Its all depending on circumstances. Considerind that Berseker's Luck is not so big (even with mad enchant), I would say that Lancer has some chances... In a wide place and no Ilya near to use a command spell like teleport at his back =))

In which route ? Sorry but even though Archer is recognized as a badass there's no way he could ever win against berserker. Not even sure if full-power Saber could beat him, It took the cheer amount of cheapness named GoB to kill him and even then, he had no choice but to face Gilgamesh's rain of swords in order to protect Ilya from it. Yes Archer is pretty strong but he is overhyped.
@MsPandoR talking about Fate route ofc... And ur wrong a bit =)) If he would cast it then you would see something like Gil vs Berseker in UBW route =))) He had real chances to win, that is true.... And full powered Saber (lets say with Rin as master) can use Excalibur 2 times in row without being weakened... A full power Excalibur is no weaker than Caliburn (and that is 7 lives)
Gil vs Berserker was an exceptional case because he had to shield Ilya with his own body, Archer could have won if he attacked ilya but he refused .Remember that Berserker has an agility rank of A and hax speed which means he's not really going to stay in one place trying to deflect weapons like he did in UBW. Added to the fact that Archer's projection reduce a weapons' rank by 1 and God Hand completely nullifies below A rank attacks and you've got the match pretty much decided.
@MsPandoR Caladobolg II is more than enough... and its not like Berseker can completly ignore the rain of swords. In Fate route, Archer did not use UBW... And that is a fact. And he still pwned him 6 times ~~~
Once again you assume Berserker will take hits while staring at the ceiling, Caradbolg2 didn't even scratch Berserker in UBW route. + Berserker wasn't even using his Mad Enhancement skill while fighting Archer, the result would have been even more one-sided towards Berserker if it was the case. Also Berserker live stock replenish over time, he lost because Iliya went berserk herself because of the humiliation of having the strongest servant killed 6 times by an unknown Eirei ...
Also do not jump to conlusions saying he didn't use UBW during the fight, seeing as when the interlude pop up the fight is already over, no one knows what really happened but the only FACT is that Berserker won, without even using Mad Enhancement =p. Btw I'm not a Berserker fanboy or anything, my favorite is Caster ^^ but if we remain unbiased, he is unparalleled, Saber stated herself that even full-powered, he should be impossible to beat for any servant.
@MsPandoR how could it be impossible when Caliburn (PROJECTED!) takes whole 7 lives with 1 swing.... =)) Well ofc as Archer is not Arthur, he can't use the sword to it's full power, but it can simply cut an arm of his for example... And when u have several things like this in inventory its a diffrent story. Last thing that u forgot... Broken Phantasms... Same Caladobolg overcharged can aquire one more rank and it will be as strong as the original for a hit =) And... Caladobolg's rank is A...
Ye true, but the projected Caliburn stay a mysteries you know, the original couldn't do that, maybe the projected version can bypass God Hand and strike even the stocked lives but anyways Archer can't reproduce it he said he would die if he tried but that he could make it close to perfection though.

If Lance would've used Death Flight on Berseker's heart, wouldn't Berseker slowly lose lives because he wouldn't be able to regenerate it? Since the only ones who were able to heal from (well.. "normal" strikes) it were Shirou and Saber who nullified the effect by sharing Avalon.
And even if it's a B+ rank phantasm.. it still broke 6 petals of Rho Aias. And an incomplete Rho Aias was even worth of an A rank shield, since the Black Excalibur was A++ rank and Bellerophon is A+... o.o
I think Gae Bolg's curse would prevent Berserker to regenerate the wounds of the life he is currently using, but once he is killed everything is erased to start anew, this would include the curse. I'm not sure but Rin almost blew his head away and it was back to normal in 10 seconds :S So if Lancer pierce his heart, God Hand would replace itn thus removing the curse but really I don't know this fight never occured ^^
But I Honestly think Lancer is the 2nd most powerful Servant in the Fifth Holy Grail War. His Gae Bolg cost "nothing" to use, Saber said he could probably use it 7 times in a row without a sweat drop and each activation is a sure kill suposedly, and he could just escape any fights if he concentrate on it since he is the fastest of the entire cast and has the best defense. The guy was talking about fighting against Saber + Assassin + Archer and said it was no problem LOL (just defend)

There was no actually "real" fighting with Lancer.. all what he kept doing was holding back people, or troll them. He didn't have a fight where he was clearly a winner or loser (Well except that match with overpowered Gilgamesh..). He could've killed Archer and Saber at the beginning (but maybe not later on), Rider (probably), Fake and True Assasins as well, and maybe even Caster. So I dunno with Bers.
Well, keep in mind that for 90% of the story Lancer was under the binding of Kirei's command spell which greatly limited his abilities (Scouting Orders). And the fight against Gilgamesh was .. well, he hadn't so much place to move so the advantage of having a spear actually turned out to be a negative, also trying to avoid the rain of swords of GoB in such a place is impossible and to finish Gilgamesh used Caradblog, Cu Chulainn made the geiss of being defeated by this weapon ...
@MsPandoR Now this is deffinetly true... What if's are no use... Its the same as no1 can match Saber in close combat (exept Berseker) and no1 can match Archer at distance (because he is archer) and Caster would pwn everybody if she would gather enough magical energy... =)))

@TalonRG That's not a sword, it's a bow by the way, and also there are plenty of broadswords in this anime. (P.S Broadswords are known as one of the most cumbersome swords in military history, the fact that they are two handed swords kind of gives it away.)

Actually, two-handed swords were not as cumbersome as most people think. Sure, there is enough weight to necessitate (proper word?) using both hands. It's a common misconception. Your only disadvantage with using a sword like that is that you must have the skill to compensate for not having a shield or some other defensive weapon.
@TalonRG Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding, but the character shown is also a Swordsmen, he is only called an Archer because he has the skill to launch swords of any kind from his bow like an arrow. Also I recommend watching the anime this character is from, it is pretty good if you have a knowledge of legendary people and their weapons, also see the alternate versions of this song is you wan't a more epic version.

@Brogath No. Both Excalibur and Ea cannot be replicated via the projection (Or Gradation Air) magic. As they are not works of a human.
Archer said that he can replicate Excalibur, but only in his Reality Marble.
And once he replicates Excalibur he will die, not because of his lack of Prana. Prana is no problem with Rin around.
It is just that his brain cannot take the strain of the projection of Excalibur.
Furthermore, projected weapons are a grade inferior the original.

And yes, if he uses Excalibur as a Broken Phantasm, its rank would be the original rank. But, why take such drastic measures?

@zuser He 'may'. So that means that lancelot can only 'mimic' someone elses NP to a certain degree. But that also depends on the parameter of that skill named "Glory for Someone".
So far as i can remember, that parameter for this particular skill is relatively low. So i do not think he can mimic Arturia's Np.

Besides, when he kidnapped Irisviel in the guise of RIder, I do not think he used "Gordius Wheel".
Thus i came to a conclusion that he can disguise as someone, but he cannot "mimic" someone's NP.
An NP can only be faked through projection.

if you played heavens feel...one of the bad endings....emiya erased some of his memories to further increase his knowledge of kansho and bakuya....im not saying this is the actual route of archer.....but there is a possiblity in some other unshown route of emiya that made him erase his memories...he said it was vague because his heart can still remember like when he fought black saber he remembers with his heart that she is saber....

He only forgot most events of his life due to overuse of tracing magic but he remembers all key details of his life, especially Kiritsugu,his crush on Rin and Saber and his dream of being a superhero. He even remembered the events he's had to experience as a Counter Guardian.

Actually Archer neither had amnesia or lied to Rin. He told her that he wasn't sure what hero he was; this makes sense in that Archer no longer associates himself with Shirou, therefore making him unsure what hero he would be. Then he merely suggested that perhaps a improperly performed summoning could negatively effect a servant that could cause amnesia

He lied. Background material was very detailed in explaining that. In two of the routes (where you actually find out who/what Archer is) he's lying. In the other route where he doesn't play a major role, it's left even more vague as to whether or not he lied, or whether or not its him having traveled back to an alternate timeline after already 'clearing' one or both of the other two routes, or he's lying.

Word of God dictates that Archer is not from any of the three routes or the not made Illya route. I was talking about the instance where Rin was questioning him on what hero he was, in that instance he did not lie. He stated that his memories of his life were vague, which to the battle weary EMIYA that is very true. Later on he may have started lying, but not that particular instance.

@moileben Also, this amnesia thing seems to be fishy for me. I haven't got anything to prove my point here, but my guess is that it's a farce from the beginning. Archer probably recognised Tohsaka right away and thus the fact that Shirou must be around as well. And telling Rin his true identity would have been counter-productive considering his own goal (namely: killing Shirou). And we know that Archer is a good enough field tactician to realize this. But again, this is only my guess.

@deadeye415 I did not say HF shirou does not have UBW, I said he just can't use it. Archer's et HF Shirou's world are differents, Shirou has to create his own Reality Marble (like you said, Rin can train him) instead of copying Archer's Reality Marble like he did in the UBW route.
Also I did not know that Archer could read the wielder's skill, then yes, maybe he could have used Hercules' NP like Shirou did.
But still, from my P.O.V, HF Shirou and Archer are not the same person. :)

Originally Archer would have born as the result of a fourth route, that was dropped because of lack of time. This route would have made Illya the main heroine. The story would go something like this: Shirou falls in love with Illya, but since she is not human, she dies a year after the end of the Grail wars, no matter what. That makes Shirou realize that no matter what he does or have done, he couldn't save the dearest to his heart.

After this, he looses his purpose to live and goes on with saving others, not caring about the cost. In the end, he ends up saving a lot of people and killing even more. Yet nobody ever thanks his efforts, since nobody understands his motives behind his actions, hence everybody finds him somewhat suspicious. In the end he realizes, that his whole life and his existence afterwards as a heroic spirit is entirely pointless and his true goals cannot ever be achieved.

@Warfoki One thing you forgot to mention was that the Heroic Spirit system in itself was the final nail in the coffin. The HS are only summoned when the world is on the verge of destruction to kill those responsible. So instead of saving people as a HS, Shirou ended up just killing those responsible after they had already done their damage.

That's why he used materialization, he imagined the strength of his opponent in his arm, he imagined also a variation of Hercules NP.
HF Shirou and Archer are NOT the same person, because Shirou betrayed his ideals he won't become Archer. If they were the same person then HF Shirou would have been able to use UBW.

I'm siding with Lancer in this fight overall; Saber and Shirou killing Berserker in one hit wasn't "blantant cheats", it's just that the sword was strong enough to kill him FIVE TIMES OVER in one swing. I remember Saber saying that Gae Bolg uses very little Mana, making it ideal for repeated use. Lancer could easily spam it twelve times in a row and take Berserker down.

Lancer could get a few Kills in using Gae Bolg, yet Berserker still has enough lives stockpiled. Berserker would probably outlast lancer and end up winning. Tbh the only reason Emiya and Saber won was because of using blatant cheats and taking multiple lives with one hit...

@12345tay54321 You also have to remember that Lancer has Battle Continuation that allows him to live until a decisive fatal kill is given to him. With his Agility at A rank, he is much faster than Berserker and has an advantage with range due to the length of his weapon. With Disengage, he can escape from the battle and return to his original stats before said battle, leaving Berserker with less lives the next time Lancer attacks him.

Berserker can still be nimble, but it's easier to move a smaller frame. As for Battle Continuation: The descriptions say Berkserkers is the ability to stay alive, but Lancer's is "does not give up easily", even though the basic ability is the same.

Gil vs Berserker was an exceptional case because he had to shield Ilya with his own body, Archer could have won if he attacked ilya but he refused .Remember that Berserker has an agility rank of A and hax speed which means he's not really going to stay in one place trying to deflect weapons like he did in UBW. Added to the fact that Archer's projection reduce a weapons' rank by 1 and God Hand completely nullifies below A rank attacks and you've got the match pretty much decided.

If Lance would've used Death Flight on Berseker's heart, wouldn't Berseker slowly lose lives because he wouldn't be able to regenerate it? Since the only ones who were able to heal from (well.. "normal" strikes) it were Shirou and Saber who nullified the effect by sharing Avalon.
And even if it's a B+ rank phantasm.. it still broke 6 petals of Rho Aias. And an incomplete Rho Aias was even worth of an A rank shield, since the Black Excalibur was A++ rank and Bellerophon is A+... o.o

I think Gae Bolg's curse would prevent Berserker to regenerate the wounds of the life he is currently using, but once he is killed everything is erased to start anew, this would include the curse. I'm not sure but Rin almost blew his head away and it was back to normal in 10 seconds :S So if Lancer pierce his heart, God Hand would replace itn thus removing the curse but really I don't know this fight never occured ^^

But I Honestly think Lancer is the 2nd most powerful Servant in the Fifth Holy Grail War. His Gae Bolg cost "nothing" to use, Saber said he could probably use it 7 times in a row without a sweat drop and each activation is a sure kill suposedly, and he could just escape any fights if he concentrate on it since he is the fastest of the entire cast and has the best defense. The guy was talking about fighting against Saber + Assassin + Archer and said it was no problem LOL (just defend)

There was no actually "real" fighting with Lancer.. all what he kept doing was holding back people, or troll them. He didn't have a fight where he was clearly a winner or loser (Well except that match with overpowered Gilgamesh..). He could've killed Archer and Saber at the beginning (but maybe not later on), Rider (probably), Fake and True Assasins as well, and maybe even Caster. So I dunno with Bers.

Well, keep in mind that for 90% of the story Lancer was under the binding of Kirei's command spell which greatly limited his abilities (Scouting Orders). And the fight against Gilgamesh was .. well, he hadn't so much place to move so the advantage of having a spear actually turned out to be a negative, also trying to avoid the rain of swords of GoB in such a place is impossible and to finish Gilgamesh used Caradblog, Cu Chulainn made the geiss of being defeated by this weapon ...

it doesnt say he killed berserker 5 or 6 times.. you can see it when he uses his phantom which he does 5 times.. and he kills each time he does it.:D

Those blasted anime swords are too large and cumbersome. Get a two-handed broad sword. Far more impressive and much more realistic.
besides the sword, this music is ok. anyone got any better music?

@TalonRG That's not a sword, it's a bow by the way, and also there are plenty of broadswords in this anime. (P.S Broadswords are known as one of the most cumbersome swords in military history, the fact that they are two handed swords kind of gives it away.)

@Exodurge Thank you for correcting me on that, I am unfamiliar with the game or whatever the character is from (it looked like a sword from my perspective).
Actually, two-handed swords were not as cumbersome as most people think. Sure, there is enough weight to necessitate (proper word?) using both hands. It's a common misconception. Your only disadvantage with using a sword like that is that you must have the skill to compensate for not having a shield or some other defensive weapon.

@TalonRG Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding, but the character shown is also a Swordsmen, he is only called an Archer because he has the skill to launch swords of any kind from his bow like an arrow. Also I recommend watching the anime this character is from, it is pretty good if you have a knowledge of legendary people and their weapons, also see the alternate versions of this song is you wan't a more epic version.
