  • Was this vid from his HBO special way way back in the day? Been 20 or so years since I saw him do this on HBO, was the best cover of this song on the planet!!!!!

  • We had this on VHS, too...it's awesomely beautiful!

  • used to have the vhs tape of this concert, phil really nails this.

  • No one like Phil. Brand X, Genesis, solo....he's a genius!!

  • goodbye phil! we'll never forget you, thank you for the work you've done with genesis and for your solistic archievement. a whole generation of drummers looks up to you and honors you. i hope we can forget "going back" as fast as possible. anyway you stay in our good memories. enjoy your free time now with your girlfriend, your children and your dog. goodbye, phil!

  • SAW THIS LIVE...PHIL IS AWESOME...I LOVE HIM...

  • @Deppylicious I MET him, on the very last Genesis show, 10/13/07...my gal and I were the only ones in Phils dressing room (besides his daughter Joely) got the pics and autographs to prove it !!

  • He is so wonderful <3

  • Man, Phil looks so young

  • Who was the original singer of this song?

  • @brothaman46 The original singer was Curtis Mayfield, but I have to say that my favorite is the version by Al Green.

  • Thanks for uploading! I first wachted this when i was 6 or 7, on VHS and it brought a lot of memories!

  • you're welcome, enjoy!

  • Really really love the way how PC did it. It surpasses Rod Stewart or Curtis Mayfield's original.

  • @whyicare Seriously? I like Phil Collins, but there is absolutely no comparison to the Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions harmonizing, rhythm or soulful intepretation of the lyrics.

The lyrics MEAN something, a cryptic way for slaves in the antebellum South to let other slaves know that they could escape that night on the Underground Railroad.

  • @shells500tutubo It was the civil right movement such as ML King's march to Washington D.C that inspired Curtis Mayfield to write People Get Ready. The long trail of people marching is like a freight train.
