Ernie, while it's sad knowing that we don't have you around for Opening Day today, we know that you and Sparky have the best seats in the house. I'll be watching the game today, but I'll be hearing your voice call it. God bless you, Ernie. We miss you.
Thx for the post. This was a truly remarkable man. Obviously all those that read these comments share a common love for Ernie, who played a role in our lives over the radio waves. I hope to see him in heaven greeting me at the gates along with the many other people I've crossed paths with. Eric Little Phoenix AZ
Thank you so much for this. As far as I'm concerned, the voice of baseball died yesterday. I'll miss him though I never met him personally, I spent many a lazy summer afternoon with him. God Bless you Earnie, see you soon my friend.
I feel like I just lost a close friend!! Ernie was a CLASS ACT!!! We will never forget you!! R.I.P. Ernie a very sad, sad day for Michigan and beyond
Out here in Dodgerland where Vin Scully is king, we say farewell for now and Godspeed to our old friend, wonderful man, and legendary broadcaster Ernie Harwell. Thanks for everything Ernie. We'll never see a grand act like you again.
I stopped by to see and hear Ernie once again. Most of my life was spent near Akron, listening and following the Indians through the likes of Herb Score, Jimmy Dudley, Bob Neal, Harry Jones, Joe Tait. But I must say that the occasional honor of tuning-in to WJR in Detroit and listening to Ernie Harwell was a special time, whenever I was lucky enough to pick-up the station in Akron.
My God ! This incredible Man was a LEGEND... Thank you very much for posting this ! R.I.P. Mr. Harwell.... you will be sorely missed by millions of Baseball fans
I cannot thank you enough for posting this. My dad loved baseball. I grew up with hearing Ernie in the background on the radio because of my Dad. I couldn't watch this without thinking of my father. Thank you for the memories Ernie...
If there is a field of Angels, Sparky is managing it, and Ernie is calling it, both wearing their Tiger hats. Let's go 2011 Tigers, bring it home.

That's J.P. McCarthy standing behind Ernie @ 2:04. Oh, for the days when WJR truly was "The Great Voice of the Great Lakes".
