GOOD job ! This is the exact kind of rendering I was hoping for the 7D. You seem to be part of the few ones who really are able to set their camera correctly, getting a soft texture (mattebox ?) avoiding too much noise. What was your setup (ISO, shutter speed,...) ?
@Guiguic this was done nearly two years ago so i'll try to remember what i did. No mattebox, It was all done handheld with a canon ef 50mm 1.4 lense, so image was quite telephoto, i kept the iso pretty low (200-400) but had the aperture pretty open to get good light balance without making it noisy with a higher iso. Then the final image took some doing in apple Color. i can't remember the exact details there, but there was color balancing, and some f/x softening and film grain. hope that helps.

To be honest, I've been mulling over purchasing a 7D for the past three hours: watching video comparisons, viewing stills and even reading 7D questions aimed at Roger Deakins on his website. Your video has sold me on the 7D, thanks!
@tishay20 thanks for your comment, i still love my 7d however if budget is a concern you might want to go for the t3i. But if you want to have the 7d for video, photography you may go with the 7d or maybe the 5d.
I own a 7D and I love it, but I think all dslr video I've ever seen looks washed out and paper thin no matter what you do to grade the image. It never looks anything like film.

The slow motion with the smoke looks really cool. Nice job, man.
thanks, I love the camera so far, but the audio is a big negative with the 7d, and it controls a lot different then a camcorder. But the IQ is worth the hassle.
Thanks Jeff. I was going to do a realistic look but mess with apple color to make the color more depressing and make you guys look ill, its a little stylized but it works for me.
