@mychinostrip - Loco tenders are really a large water tank with a coal bunker on top. These are "tank engines" (like Thomas the Tank Engine) as they carry the water in the tanks beside the boiler and the coal is in a bunker at the back of the cab. They are designed for relatively short journeys on the real railways. On these models the tanks are dummy and they are fired by gas instead of coal.
The weather belies the location - I did think it was over the pond but well done to the landscapers and the bridge builders. The loco sound is magical and I can imagine tackling the inclines is tricky driving. Simply excellent
Thanks Steve - and we were VERY luck with the weather that day. Ralph did all the landscping and bridge building himself - some seriously heavy, 8mm steel went into the curved one! Driving was a challenge - but Steve did a great job with two transmitters round his neck!
Superb Chris, that lines reminds me a bit of Nick Trudian's 'Southern Cross' line, with all that rock and clay etc! Would love to see some big american live steamers on there, maybe even just a Fowler or Sandy River.
You are right Pete - it was inspired by Nick's line. Ralph has lots of big US outline electric locos but only one live steam at the moment. I will have to think about re-gauging my Fowler for a visit.
Not sure christopher - but I think about 16 all wighted with lead. We needed a banker when running with a single loco up front - watch out for future videos!
Regarding the landscape - it was designes for big US outline, track-powered locos - but it is huge fun with steam.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why don't those engines have tenders?
