  • Who the fuc is Luc? Thumbs up if you want twittering tweener idiots to stick to Gaga and Bieber. xBox, vampire serial-producers and no-talent whores like those previously mentioned should be sued for/banned from even uttering the name of Ella Fitzgerald or Cole Porter.

  • wOnderful

    she's amazing

  • i raped replay button

  • This is one of those unique combinations that come along every so often, a brilliant singer and a song that is made just for them. I heard this a few years ago in an old fashioned pub and when it was playing the years just seemed to roll away and it was like being transported into a more comfortable age. Brilliant.

  • Love you Ella....

  • i just can't have enough of her, so mmmmmmmaaaarvelous

  • i cry ,..

  • Thank you for posting this. Nobody compared to Ella.

  • Thou wast not born for death, immortal Bird! No hungry generations tread thee down; The voice I hear this passing night was heard In ancient days by emperor and clown: Perhaps the self-same song that found a path Through the sad heart of Ruth, when, sick for home, She stood in tears amid the alien corn; The same that oft-times hath Charm'd magic casements, opening on the foam Of perilous seas, in faery lands forlorn. John Keats - Ode To A Nightingale

  • Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She sings this so beautifully!! I love her so much!!!

  • Sheer effen perfection!

  • This heart speaks so much. I cannot help but feel I was born in the wrong time period sometimes (me being 21). This music is overwhelmingly beautiful. Thanks!!!

  • @LadyBug3314 I'm with you totally!!!! I'm 29 and everyone my age thinks I'm crazy. But my bf always says I was born in the wrong time. Luckily so was he - but he's the 50's-60's (He's 26). lol

  • I'd like to say this is my favourite Cole Porter song... It is.. but any Cole Porter song i am listening to at the time is my favourite one. And Ella is in my memory as the best interpreter of the song I ever heard.... She puts you in heaven, that's for sure... I was lucky enough to see her once at 'the Little Club' in LA. No longer there. All the great places in Hollywood are either gone, or have turned into amusement parks.. Well, this IS my favourite and it IS heavenly...

  • Heard this on the ipod shuffle tonight. Always very poignant and sad, but better to have loved, etc.... I guess

  • This woman had the voice of an Angel, never to be heard again. It was supposed to be the finale song as requested at my fathers funeral, but some dingus cocked it up by forgetting to play it, it was my fathers favourite singer of all time......god bless you all...xxxx

  • Holly Cole wishes she were Ella Fitzgerald..however, Ella could actually SING.

  • you can't go wrong with Cole porter....

  • Vocal perfection with a wonderful song. Simply timeless

  • Ella would not be PC, she was 'too heavy' for todays, beauty/singing competition...but she had a God-sent voice that only Karen shared. IMHO.

    Larry

  • I wish artists these days would sing more like Ella and Dean Martin, because all this mainstream rapping, pop, and hip-hop crap is not art. So many hip hop "singers" use autotune anyways, like how the hell do people think they are talented? THIS right here, is real, genuine talent.

  • @HollyOgre The songs of old sung about loving somebody else, the songs nowadays sings about loving ourselves! Songs today are very selfish and self centered, and they wonder why fights break out most nights in night clubs nowadays! Music has a great impact on mental well beinging, or the lack thereof! when people bounce all night with an entitlement issues and songs that scream ph@ck u, and Kiss myA@@ all night, what else do you expect from the crowd?

  • The wondrous voice of Ella Fitzgerald, the one, the only, the voice that touches one's heart.

  • This is awesome!!!

  • Every single time.....

  • @artisticluminiere Heard this recently and thought the same thing

  • It kind of makes me sad about teens my age, they have hardly any respect for this sort of music.... I love this so much... I guess it makes me happy to be different.

  • A more beautiful jazz singer has never been heard. Her voice is clear and clean and beautiful.

  • Music...of any kind...is one of man's greatest gift to nature. And this kind just happens to sound like a more beautiful gift to me.

  • great song , n what a voice .

  • Great!!!

  • One of my all time favorite singers. I love Ella, her voice is enchanting!

  • FANTASTIC..... a lovely song sung by one of the finest of singers ever. Thank you for posting.

  • Of all the great things America gave the world in the 20th century, none is greater than the popular song. (And really great artists to perform them). This is a perfect example (among thousands).

  • thanks for posting do you know if billy eckstein made a record of this lovely song

  • Her voice is probably the purest and greatest there ever was. I love her so much, her and Billie Holiday <3

  • I will never say goodbye to Ella. I will play her music till the day I die. RIP.

  • @jazyag Ditto!!! x

  • @jazyag Amen to that........

  • This song is made of WIN.

  • absolutely wonderful. her voice is so angelic. you can hear in her voice that she is not trying. it's natural.

  • Lovely just Perfect! ♥♥

  • Nobody in the world today can sing this song better than she does!

  • @newgeneration123 you need to listen to sarah vaughan's version

  • Gold dust Ella xx

  • Absolutely beautiful, magical vocals. Do not think that any female vocalists can match her.

  • @anniemt53 thats shows how much you know about people and singing

  • oh but this is just marvellous singing of a wonderful song..........

  • A very classy, very talented lady.

So much better than these Christina-Britney-Mariah screaming creatures turned out by X-Factor and AGT/BGT!

  • This really is God speaking through the most amazing singer on earth. Ever. Period.I love this woman more than words could ever express. RIP Ella.

  • I first heard this song when I was like 15 on Parent Trap when one twin returned to England with her mother on the airplane, and it was raining really hard.

  • wonderful

  • Kippevel

  • those gods can be oooohh so cruel!!!

  • A level above everything else...sublime.

  • beautiful voice one of the best ever

  • I wish Riddle had done the arrangements on all the Songbooks. He has the most intelligent strings. This is good--but not as good as the arrangements on the Gershwin Songbook.

  • Effortless. I agree with the post of wellgday.

  • Pure class. A perfect combination of unforced, mellow voice and fantastic orchestration. Today's untalented, overrated 'divas' can only dream of interpreting a song as good as Ella does hereh. I have to say that I HATE jazz, and I am not a big fan either of 'standards'. But this performance simply grabs you and holds you in its thrall. I defy anyone to argue that this is not one of the best tracks EVER made.

  • sheer perfection

  • If you say yes I will be there

if you say no then i am alone

    what a magnificent voice....zgirl

  • GREAT SONG - GREAT VOICE!

  • heavenly.

  • The best version of this song ever. Made my head full of dreams and my eyes glassy. Just listen to this voice... *sigh*

  • She was and remains the first lady of song.

  • I love her so much!

  • annie lennoux sings a version of this song that is simply heartbreaking

  • My joy is that my Sister was blessed with Ella's Voice & when she sung Ella you could not tell the difference even Louis Armstrong thought she was black when he heard her & was blown away by her fell & rich toned voice, unfortunately it was in South Africa in the apartheid era, so she could not sing with his band enough said

She sang this to me when I was a kid it influenced my playing so much I became know as The Singer on Drums.

WHAT A JOY to hear this & revisit my youth.

    Will

  • @1960COB ;)))

  • Another song to put up with Hoagy Carmichael's "The Nearness of You" in my list of most wonderful love songs (be they happy, sad, plaintive, thoughtful, sweet....). But this song can also apply to any goodbye, not just a romantic goodbye.

  • Added this to 1956 in my century of music archive - a playlist for each and every year back to 1900 lets you hear the music of any year in the context of its time.

Each list plays up to 2 hours like a trip into the past, hope you try it . . . . . . . .

  • Vive la musique

    Vive le net

    Merci pour la vidéo

  • Fantastic song by the greatest singer of her generation ( and thats saying something as there were more great singers then than now) just pure magic.

  • she has an amazingly pure and wonderful voice.

  • i love this song soo much!

  • Absolutely wonderful - the voice of an angel.

  • She died valiantly!

  • The definitive version of this exquisite song! I can remember hearing it on Two Way Family Favourites on BBC's Light Programme back in the early Sixties. Mmmmmm! Ahhh!

  • Holy shit what vocal cords this woman has ......

  • Such a beautiful song. It is even more so, if you have someone special in mind.

  • The Buddy Bregman arrangement is a perfect match for Ella's interpretation. The combination is up there at the top, along with her version of Midnight Sun & Nelson Riddle's arrangement of that Johnny Mercer classic.

  • ..there is no love song finer, but how strange the change from major to minor...!!

    Sheer magic!!

  • People who like M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" should listen to real music like this...

  • and what do you say to the people who like both? I love Ella and M.I.A. Music is subjective and to get the most out of it its best to keep an open mind, about all of it.

  • i like both.

    a lot.

  • Great song, great singer, what more do wee need....

  • Argubly the best love-song ever written, and most peoples favourite version with Ella's beautiful voice that makes this a timeless golden classic.
