yeah fair play... I guess the priority is getting the kids to school easier, reducing peak traffic, I believe the emergency services can use this bridge to cross? I suppose the weather has hampered progress too, but I am upset that local tradesmen seem to be missing out on some quality work. I'm sure 'built in Cumbria by Cumbrians' would be far better

to all the engineers that worked on the foot bridge including my hubby guiding the truck in this video well done i'm so proud of you all you all worked round the clock and 2491tj it doesnt matter if the ww2 lads done it in 8 hours or 13 days we should be proud of our lads no matter what well done guys xx mrsmalky

not taking anything away from those involved.........what does annoy me is the apparent lack of interest shown by Southern based politicians in actually putting a road bridge in what is a vital local road...if this had happened in London one thing would be certain....a proper road bridge would have been put across the river immediately...there would be no "up to 2 year" waiting and planning and sub contracting.

Langwathby had a baily bridge built to replace a flood collapsed 13th century bridge in a similar way, its still in use since 1966.

I guess back in '44 they didnt have all these H&S rules and regulations they have these days. I reckon they've done a pretty damn good job personally, maybe couldnt have done it without them?

not taking anything away from those who built the bridge, im annoyed at the lack of interest there is in building a bridge which can carry traffic... it now turns out we will have to wait at least 2 years for a road bridge..apparently once a design has been reached, it has to go out to various subcontractors ..then other various subcontractors who supply materials..then other subcontractors to actually build it.... this is so the council does not show "favouritism" to any particular builder
