  • Ur right about the 13.3 but the best i could get out of mine with stock tires was a 13.6 not bad.

  • same with me, but i spent 360$ on exhaust and 370$ on intake and shaved off half a second- 12.7 at 111 mph. Stock tires. Thinkin about getting the new Hankook ventus RS-3 tires. they look SWEET.

  • You need let off the gas quicker when you shift. The GTO is a tough car to learn for someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with stick so I don't blame you at all. But you gotta let off the gas when you shift or you'll burn the clutch out.  Good luck man!

  • well good with my diablo tune loudmouth 1 slightly wider tires (8.5) headers and intake along with 06 tailights im sure ill be pleased...i dont have to be the fastest...just faster than the other 80%

  • @jtsnooks That's the same case with my Altima SE-R. Magazines often quote a 1/4 mile time in the High-14's, but most guys I know regularly push Low-14's, and some even get High-13's in it (Bone stock).

  • ive had my 05 two days now and im shifting better than that....just saying...you should practice a little more before you do that shit...i drove around in the rain for 5 days before it was even dry enough to lay the hammer down..i also got pulled over tonite...learn well from me.

  • What exhaust set up were you running in the vid?

  • That was the SAP exhaust, basically just the mufflers/tips are different from the normal LS2 exhaust. It was bent up in an accident and I've got a different setup now.

  • Well thanks. I'll admit that if they bring out a coupe version of the G8 (search for Coupe 60 concept) and it's not significantly heavier than the GTO, I'll buy one immediately. It looks dead sexy.

  • It was only planned to be a 3-year run because the new version of the platform came out in 2007. The new version of the platform is for sale in the US as the G8, and the new Camaro is based on the new platform as well. So it wasn't exactly "discontinued", its platform was replaced.

  • Yes I am the one driving (poorly). The GTO/Monaro were built off of the same chassis as the previous generation Commodore. The new Commodore (G8) is based off of the Zeta platform, and if there is a new Monaro/GTO it will be based off of the same platform as well, just like the previous generation was.

  • Good run. Might be better with the a/c off. Now for latino,the GTO is pure Muscle Car, fastest from the show room, big fan of the '70 model, nuf said! Car and Driver stated that the car would only be sold for 3 yrs. If it comes back great! If not, I have my 05 yjm, weekend car, drive it like I stole it, bought it new for $27.4K, that is stored in the winter in MN! If it one day appricates in value 10 times the MSRP, it will be The Great One once again! If it does not, it's great any way!!

  • I own an 05 GTO and like having a car that you don't see too often. 400 horses from a stock car is pretty respectable at this price and having a luxury cabin to use it in is sweet! Sure, the car doesn't have the typical muscle car looks but it's certainly no ugly pig either. The car is very european feeling to me - yet has that sledge-hammer power that the Yanks like to squeeze into their cars! The car may have had a short life over here but it's lived a lot longer in it's native country.

  • I already told you, it was discontinued because it didn't meet new crash regulations for 2007, and with a new chassis coming out it didn't make sense to revamp it to sell it for one more year. As for the Charger, that's fine if you want something that's not faster, doesn't mod as well, has 4 doors, and doesn't have a manual transmission. Personally I prefer a manual transmission in my performance cars.

  • You truely are a moron. The GTO was not discontinued. It was only planned for a 3 year run just like GM did with the Impala in the 90's. Go buy a 4 door Charger and watch the GTO's tail lights. That is all you will ever have to look at.

    Talk about a car that just has a name put on it. The new Charger is nothing like the older Chargers. It's a 4 door at that. There is more American Muscle and parts in the GTO than there is in most American cars assembled in the USA. Get over yourself.

    The GTO was built in Australia but alot of the parts on the GTO are from the USA. Probably alot more than vehicles that are actually built in the USA. Just because a car is from a foreign car maker or US car maker doesn't really mean anything these days. It's a worldwide market

As for outlasting a GTO, I know plenty of GTOs that have gone over 100,000 miles (in only 4 years) and had 0 problems whatsoever. And did you REALLY just use resale value as a criteria for a performance car?? But for the sake of argument, considering these things still sell for $24k with more miles than mine, I'd say they're holding up just fine.

  • Well the GTO does have a lot to do with the G8 as the G8 is essentially the next generation of the old GTO platform. Granted it's more related to the Commodore 4-door version since the G8 is 4 doors, but the GTO was based on the same platform just a 2-door version. If they bring out a 2-door version of the G8 it will essentially be a 2nd-gen (or 4th-gen, depending on how you look at it) GTO.

  • Part 1. Granted it is from the same native country but the G8 has a different platform than the GTO underneat. I wanna say Zeta but im not sure if they incorporated that into the G8 or not. Not sure if the GXP version is two doors or not but it does sport a LS3 engine. GTO was the Monaro's Twin. Which the Commodore was Closely Related, not to familiar with the aussie counterparts lol. I dont think the two door would need to be called gto, we got one and its good enough lol.

  • I think you missed my point. The Monaro was the 2-door version of the Commodore. Same chassis, just slightly shortened and 2 less doors. The GTO was a Monaro with a few minor changes for the US market. Same chassis as the Monaro and Commodore. The Commodore has now been replaced by the new chassis (it is indeed Zeta), and is sold in the US as the G8. Currently there is no 2-door version, but if there were it would be the next generation of the Monaro/GTO regardless of the model name.

  • No, I'm not very good at shifting. I'm too nice on the car, but I'll learn. I've only been driving it for 6 weeks and drove an automatic for the last 7 years, so it will take me a while to get really good at it.
