Lets see some REAL American MUSCLE! Put a 1970 440 Challenger with heads and a cam out there and it would SPANK any modern *muscle* car! Lets see a race between a 1970 stock challenger and the best stock mustang out there and see who gets stomped in the 1/4. How bout it motertrend?
and when I say "laugh about" i don't mean I'm hating on the american muscle, I mean when I spin out @ the track after using every ounce of skill in my body to NOT spin out, I would be laughin my ass off with a huge smile on my face,. I'd feel the same way spinning out a c63 AMG but on my way home I would have reservations about having spent 80 grand or so on something that can't take a turn for shit
fast in a straight line but handles like poo... and similar sized european vehicles get the same or better 1/4 times and handle properly on the track.
@GodlessMartyr666 you don't buy a challenger for speed, just like you don't buy an alfa romeo for reliability. It's the bad ass muscle car feel that you want
@sangheraa yeah not to mention its the cheapest of all the new-muscle out there right now... Top Gear host Richard Hammond has the same perspective, it's all about the american spirit of a big muscled out classic brought into modern standard. To a degree I would actually myself rather drive something I can laugh about and enjoy, while still holding moderate ground in terms of performance... with an AMG benz I would be afraid to toss it around as much as a new era muscle car, costs twice as much.

@randomradicalstuff lol they can do it but not well alot of times when we rent a car we somehow get stuck with a muscle car. recently in hawaii we had a charger and it couldnt turn worth crap. drifting isn much of an acomplishment either.
@tolikechicken lucky ass's, STUCK???? i think the word you ment was blessed, yes they can unless there's something wrong with it or has been in a wreck and messed with it
@randomradicalstuff lol they were horrible japanese and rally built cars are soooo much better for courses and everyday use. Muscle cars have the turning radius of a van.
say all u want about stock challengers vs mustangs, there's still no true comparison. they are 2 totally different cars. the mustang is small as a civic. its size has no comparison to the chally's so of course its going to be quicker in stock form. plus i feel ford was kinda desperate with throwing a 425hp motor into a car that just a year before had 100hp less and only ran high 13's.
@bubba8350 Lol, look at the size of the Challenger compared to the mustang. And the Hemi wasn't ever a great 1/4mile engine. Mopar's 1/4mile engine was the 426 max wedge back in 1963. They put that in a Plymouth Belvedere and got a 13 sec 1/4mile car.
To kidracer117 I have a 09 challenger SRT and a 1974 Cuda. The Cuda Weight is 3450 lbs with a small block 360. the SRT is 4160 lbs. However the Cuda is virtually the same length as the Challenger. The new Challenger is heavier, taller and wider. but not by as much as people claim. The real difference is the Wheel base on the Challenger is quite a bit longer and the rocker panel area is wider, almost verticle from the upper half of the car.Like you stated this is due to safety standards,

THANK GOD,,,, the challenger is sexy,,,, dodge nailed it with this car,, cause they REALLY fucked up by turning the Charger in to a 4 door police cruiser,,,, who the fuck decided it would be cool to make the fuckin GENERAL LEE a 4 door?,,,,, chrysler 300 is a sexy 4 door,,,,, charger,,,, shit,,,challenger? @IRONSEAN7 i feel your pain but it was for insurance purposes at first. what they should have done was offer a two door version with the same trim levels for the charger purists.
@907akbiker I'm a mopar man through and through, owning two mid-60's musclecars, but how am I wrong? The 2011 GT runs high 11's, off the showroom, bone stock. These challengers run mid-low 12's. Last time I checked, 11s are faster than 12s. So, like I said, the 2011 Mustang GT would pound both of these cars.
hey you can take your ford and sove it up your ass! your are in the land of MOPAR i like ford too there american but the retards who buy em instantley turn into fags who think there all that!
guy in a dodge is all kicked back at the light mustang fanboy pulls up in a v6 mustang acting like he rules the road! dodge boy just sits up srops the clutch and smokes the fanboy! usualy how it works!
As a Mustang guy thats true. It pisses me off when Im on a red light and some faggot on a V6 stops next to me and just revs their engine and acts like he's the shit. I mean its ok to be proud to have a legendary car, but a V6? C'mon man!
@oriclepro09 you are an idiot if you think a 2011 valve tapping gt will bust 11s off the showroom floor, most are going to be novice drivers that may cut a 13.0 or 12.9 off the showroom floor depending on elevation. Apparently you paid no attention that these two challengers were full weight on street wheels and tires and only cutting 2.0x 60's. These two cars are well capable of cutting at minimum .5-.6 off their ET with a set of DRs and orobably more with slicks and some halfass track prep.
@Johnnyboy200406 lol @ "valve tapping gt"...and why would I be an idiot to say that? It's been proven, multiple times. And so you're saying that even though the average buyer won't be able to make the car do somthing, that its wrong to say it can? How about on a skid pad or roadcourse test? You're average driver can't achieve the same numbers in those either. Even STILL, both these cars went MID 12's, and one went HIGH 12s! NOT EVEN CLOSE to touching 11's, wtih a supercharger. Sorry!
@z28ninja Though I love these Challengers, with all those mods I would think it would do high 10s/low 11s. Speed factory seems to fall short with their product. I wonder if Hennessey have some stuff for these cars. I'm sure Hennessy's product would put this thing on high 10s. Although, I think he would've gotten high 11's with drag tires. All those goodies under the hood and he got mid 12s lol. Drop a 2k on performance parts for an 87 Grand National and it'll run 11's lol.
most of us dreamt of these cars since the '70s when it all went away, its just good to have the performance cars back, nice stufff ... i'll keep my old one tho...
I swear I've seen that challenger (the one that won) for sale in a Dupont Registry magazine. The ad claimed it had over 900hp and if that's true and it's pushing that much power in this race, then that's pretty sad.
the whole point of the challenger being so heavy is cuz its a real muscle car probably the only real looking muscle car... today. plus it looks like the orginal model the mustang and camero are just sport cars challenger rules
@bismillahmashallah----------- the challenger of the "day" the true 70 challenger was not a heavy car. right around 3000 pounds. the 1970 challenger is literally the size of a scion tc. the reason for the car being heavy these days is a combination of a solid ride and crash test regulations. the steal used on the new challenger is hss and uhss. not a very heavy steal but just alot of it.
@bismillahmashallah hmm your statement makes really no since. mustang and chevy both are building body styles based on the older muscle car look atm. unless dodge is crushing and using the recyled metal from its old cars then its made from the same metals and plastic and fiber glass that chevy and ford is using. and by the way chevy and ford's 2010 and 2011 both running in the 11's with about the same bolt on's. it is what it is.
@bismillahmashallah thats not why its so heavy. its heavy cus its based on the charger platform which is a large sedan. and also the original challenger was much smaller than this challenger. this car would be so much better if its lighter.
@bismillahmashallah Hey, there is no question it has the looks, but why does it have to be 400lbs heavier than a 1970 Hemi 'Cuda? You know, the REAL hemi, the engine that was called the elephant because of its very impressive physical size?
@bismillahmashallah I was with you till u trashed on the mustang and camero. Its about time somebody at dodge woke up and decided to do what everyone else was already doing and bring back a classic muscle car style that was beautiful. Those were the glory years for cars.

@Croozer I chuckled too - so a new 5.0L Mustang will run neck and neck with the faster of these two - or even slightly beat it. And that is from a stock car, naturally aspirated, and with an engine that is 20% smaller.
@almasi72 Yeah I'm not really impressed with the challenger's numbers, but it is a big ass boat on street tires. And the 5.0 runs high 12's. The 12.3 the charger just laid down is a big difference Say a car length per 10th at least.
@almasi72 The Boss 302 would. But not the GT. Besides even if the SRT8 has a bigger displacement it still has what many Mustang fans call "ancient" pushrods with 2 valves vs the Ford's 4 valves. So that gives the Mustang an advantage there.
@WestHero2 lol! True...I wonder if the new owners of Mopar are going to drop a V8 into the Fiat 500 and rebadge it as the new and improved Challenger... :)
@almasi72 the mustang is lighter too, all what needs to happen is weight reduction with the challenger and that will happen with time. Remember what car used to spank your precious mustang back in the day of true muscle cars.
@pacman385 10 years ago? More like 25 or 30 years ago... fox body mustangs don't count. I disagree on the Challenger though, they are awesome and have stayed true to their roots concerning style and body lines. What can I say, I love Mopar.
@jasonkutnink87 These mopars ain't doing anything but gaining weight. They'll always weigh several hundred pounds more than a mustang so they'll always be slower.
@jasonkutnink87 The mustang only weighs a couple 100 lbs more. See what you are forgetting is that you have more cubic inch. You're talking 392 ci to a 302 ci. So dodge has a long way to go. This guy ran a 12 with a supercharger with more cubic inch and the mustang will run that stock. Will run 11's with tune, exhaust, and intake. Also back in the day dodge had those big ass 440 ci running little 302s and 351s. Dodge can lighten the car up and still get they ass kicked. I'm just saying.
@tremail12 See what your "forgetting" is the lightest stock Ford Rustang (v6) weighs in at 3750 lbs and is a pony car where as a Dodge Challenger at its heaviest stock weighs in at 4140lbs. Almost 400 pounds (get a calculator because it is easy to see you do not have the intelligence to add). The Challenger is a full size muscle car with a real honest to goodness trunk and back seat...I am just saying.
@cjbartnik Hold on bro. You getting beside yourself. The 5.0 automatic weighs 4000lbs and with the manual tranny 3875. You still not getting it. You should make up for the weight with your cubic inch. The mustang runs stock what these guys running with superchargers. We are talking a 302 to a 396 with a supercharger. Dodge needs to go back to the drawing board. N/A not supercharged. They still making them heavy because they putting more cubic inch to keep up.
@jasonkutnink87 The mustang only weighs a couple 100 lbs more. See what you are forgetting is that you have more cubic inch. You're talking 392 ci to a 302 ci. So dodge has a long way to go. @henrysalt73 Actually, no crack pipe involved--almasi72 is correct--sort of. A stock, 2011 5.0 Mustang GT will run in the 12 range--well--the 12.8 range, with a good driver. With an okay driver, maaaaybee, 13.2 1/4 mile.
@Croozer You would be surprised how much slicks help. And just because it has a super charger on it does not mean that its a powerful one. I mean hell, its supposed to be the first time a 2009 challenger was super-charged. So needless to say, its not really the cars fault. More along the lines of improper mods and tires.
@875109725710 Its a street car and real street cars run on street tires, that is the challenge of building a fast street car, slap a pair of drag radials on it and get busy, ET is not a indicator of HP, trap speed is.
@Croozer So when did they say they where trying to make a fast street car? Im am simply saying that in order for some one to see the cars max performance with its current build, you need to run slicks. Now if the goal was to make a fast street car i could go with no slicks. But i didnt see any info on making a fast street car.
@Croozer YA NO SHIT, and if you want to make power, then chances are you want to see what the car can do. And in order to see what it can do, YOU NEED SLICKS DIP SHIT! So supercharging a car means that your trying to make a fast street car? I dont know where you got that idea, but its pretty fucking ridicules.
Lets see some REAL American MUSCLE! Put a 1970 440 Challenger with heads and a cam out there and it would SPANK any modern *muscle* car! Lets see a race between a 1970 stock challenger and the best stock mustang out there and see who gets stomped in the 1/4. How bout it motertrend?

did he say his supercharged car "came up to boost quick"? um...superchargers are belt driven thus creating constant boost correct?

Easily the best looking and functioning new muscle car remake. The Camero looks too much like a Hot Wheels car.

z28ninja 1 year ago

The ad claimed it had over 900hp and if that's true and it's pushing that much power in this race, then that's pretty sad.

the whole point of the challenger being so heavy is cuz its a real muscle car probably the only real looking muscle car... today. plus it looks like the orginal model the mustang and camero are just sport cars challenger rules
bismillahmashallah 1 year ago 30
@bismillahmashallah hell yeah brother
98dakrt 1 year ago
@bismillahmashallah----------- the challenger of the "day" the true 70 challenger was not a heavy car. right around 3000 pounds. the 1970 challenger is literally the size of a scion tc. the reason for the car being heavy these days is a combination of a solid ride and crash test regulations. the steal used on the new challenger is hss and uhss. not a very heavy steal but just alot of it.
kidracer117 10 months ago
@kidracer117 The 1970 Challenger R/T weighed in at 3600 lbs, it was no light weight, the current Challenger is 4000 lbs.
Croozer 10 months ago
@bismillahmashallah hmm your statement makes really no since. mustang and chevy both are building body styles based on the older muscle car look atm. unless dodge is crushing and using the recyled metal from its old cars then its made from the same metals and plastic and fiber glass that chevy and ford is using. and by the way chevy and ford's 2010 and 2011 both running in the 11's with about the same bolt on's. it is what it is.
tobroke2007 10 months ago
@bismillahmashallah thats not why its so heavy. its heavy cus its based on the charger platform which is a large sedan. and also the original challenger was much smaller than this challenger. this car would be so much better if its lighter.
cardude1992 9 months ago
@bismillahmashallah Hey, there is no question it has the looks, but why does it have to be 400lbs heavier than a 1970 Hemi 'Cuda? You know, the REAL hemi, the engine that was called the elephant because of its very impressive physical size?
almasi72 9 months ago
@bismillahmashallah I was with you till u trashed on the mustang and camero. Its about time somebody at dodge woke up and decided to do what everyone else was already doing and bring back a classic muscle car style that was beautiful. Those were the glory years for cars.

Croozer 1 year ago
@Croozer I chuckled too - so a new 5.0L Mustang will run neck and neck with the faster of these two - or even slightly beat it. And that is from a stock car, naturally aspirated, and with an engine that is 20% smaller.
almasi72 11 months ago 15
@almasi72 yeah but your paying $10,000 more for it so really you lost!!
MrTrip3ace 9 months ago
@MrTrip3ace Did you mean the Challenger is $10k more? I've seen new 2011 GTs for ~$26,000. Cheap like borscht!
almasi72 9 months ago
@almasi72 Yeah I'm not really impressed with the challenger's numbers, but it is a big ass boat on street tires. And the 5.0 runs high 12's. The 12.3 the charger just laid down is a big difference Say a car length per 10th at least.
Maxmaj1q 9 months ago
@almasi72 The Boss 302 would. But not the GT. Besides even if the SRT8 has a bigger displacement it still has what many Mustang fans call "ancient" pushrods with 2 valves vs the Ford's 4 valves. So that gives the Mustang an advantage there.
elr456 9 months ago
@almasi72 But its Still a Ford...
WestHero2 8 months ago
@WestHero2 lol! True...I wonder if the new owners of Mopar are going to drop a V8 into the Fiat 500 and rebadge it as the new and improved Challenger... :)
almasi72 8 months ago
@almasi72 Either way it will still beat a Mustang and atleast its not a Ford
WestHero2 8 months ago 2
@almasi72 ah ah ah =p that depends on what stage of the 5.0 it is
pka69 8 months ago
@almasi72 the mustang is lighter too, all what needs to happen is weight reduction with the challenger and that will happen with time. Remember what car used to spank your precious mustang back in the day of true muscle cars.
jasonkutnink87 8 months ago 18
@jasonkutnink87 the camaro? yup
xCrazyLegitx 5 months ago
@jasonkutnink87 The days of the muscle cars ran out about 10 years ago, and at this time the challenger is a piece of shit.
pacman385 4 months ago
@pacman385 10 years ago? More like 25 or 30 years ago... fox body mustangs don't count. I disagree on the Challenger though, they are awesome and have stayed true to their roots concerning style and body lines. What can I say, I love Mopar.
inboundlight0711 4 months ago
@jasonkutnink87 These mopars ain't doing anything but gaining weight. They'll always weigh several hundred pounds more than a mustang so they'll always be slower.
Bmr4life 4 months ago
@Bmr4life just like americans
SJLGG 3 months ago
@jasonkutnink87 The mustang only weighs a couple 100 lbs more. See what you are forgetting is that you have more cubic inch. You're talking 392 ci to a 302 ci. So dodge has a long way to go. This guy ran a 12 with a supercharger with more cubic inch and the mustang will run that stock. Will run 11's with tune, exhaust, and intake. Also back in the day dodge had those big ass 440 ci running little 302s and 351s. Dodge can lighten the car up and still get they ass kicked. I'm just saying.
tremail12 1 month ago
@tremail12 See what your "forgetting" is the lightest stock Ford Rustang (v6) weighs in at 3750 lbs and is a pony car where as a Dodge Challenger at its heaviest stock weighs in at 4140lbs. Almost 400 pounds (get a calculator because it is easy to see you do not have the intelligence to add). The Challenger is a full size muscle car with a real honest to goodness trunk and back seat...I am just saying.
cjbartnik 3 weeks ago
@cjbartnik Hold on bro. You getting beside yourself. The 5.0 automatic weighs 4000lbs and with the manual tranny 3875. You still not getting it. You should make up for the weight with your cubic inch. The mustang runs stock what these guys running with superchargers. We are talking a 302 to a 396 with a supercharger. Dodge needs to go back to the drawing board. N/A not supercharged. They still making them heavy because they putting more cubic inch to keep up.

@almasi72 Lay off the crack pipe bro...a stock 5.0 mustang only runs 14`s
henrysalt73 5 months ago
@henrysalt73 Actually, no crack pipe involved--almasi72 is correct--sort of. A stock, 2011 5.0 Mustang GT will run in the 12 range--well--the 12.8 range, with a good driver. With an okay driver, maaaaybee, 13.2 1/4 mile.
bigvirgotube 5 months ago
@henrysalt73 What year, a 1990?
jdfrench16 5 months ago
@almasi72 Actually, the 5.0 GT gets a 12.8 - 13.0, but remember, it's lighter in the pounds department too!!
So, it will not quite beat either car, but it will run pretty well stock...
bigvirgotube 5 months ago
@Croozer challengers are very heavy
masteromega1 10 months ago
@Croozer HAH, ya with street tires xD
875109725710 10 months ago
@875109725710 With a trap speed of only 112 mph it just ain't making big power.
Croozer 10 months ago
@Croozer You would be surprised how much slicks help. And just because it has a super charger on it does not mean that its a powerful one. I mean hell, its supposed to be the first time a 2009 challenger was super-charged. So needless to say, its not really the cars fault. More along the lines of improper mods and tires.
875109725710 10 months ago
@875109725710 Its a street car and real street cars run on street tires, that is the challenge of building a fast street car, slap a pair of drag radials on it and get busy, ET is not a indicator of HP, trap speed is.
Croozer 10 months ago
@Croozer So when did they say they where trying to make a fast street car? Im am simply saying that in order for some one to see the cars max performance with its current build, you need to run slicks. Now if the goal was to make a fast street car i could go with no slicks. But i didnt see any info on making a fast street car.
875109725710 10 months ago
@875109725710 LOL, they put a supercharger on a Challenger SRT-8, what do you think they are doing, trying to get better fuel mileage?
I'm done.
Croozer 10 months ago
@Croozer Lol, that was a stupid ass thing to say. There are many different reasons to super charge a car. Just depends on the personal choice.
875109725710 10 months ago
@875109725710 You fucking moron, the only reason to supercharge a car is to make more power.
GTFOH.
Croozer 10 months ago
@Croozer YA NO SHIT, and if you want to make power, then chances are you want to see what the car can do. And in order to see what it can do, YOU NEED SLICKS DIP SHIT! So supercharging a car means that your trying to make a fast street car? I dont know where you got that idea, but its pretty fucking ridicules.
875109725710 10 months ago
@Croozer yeah that does seem slow don't it???
freakzilla10 10 months ago
@freakzilla10 I'm just commenting as far as the list of mods is concerned but out on the street there won't be much to challenge him.
