@cindybin2001 The prohibition against marijuana is as ineffective as the alcohol one in the 20's. And just as alcohol prohibition funded criminals like Al Capone, the marijuana prohibition funds the drug cartels and gives them the power to commit atrocious acts like they do in Columbia etc.

You're the kind of person who says "bonkers" so I have a good idea of what I'm dealing with here. I already commented on your opinion of why it's wrong to smoke pot. Legality and morality aren't the same thing, so I don't think it's WRONG to smoke it just because it's illegal. At the same time, these people do it knowing the consequences and take the risk. Why do you care about that so much? It's their butts on the line.
@deathofsmokey As I've said a millio times, I do NOT think it's immoral or wrong to smoke pot JUST because it's illegal. But it is TERRIBLE that casual smokers think they are above the law. They're responsible for all the violence and crime associated with the illegal drug trade. They don't care, though. They're too self absorbed and only want their little "buzz". But even if it were legal, you KNOW that's not right to get "buzzed" or "high" by using a psychoactive drug!

You're right, it's not a religious issue, and plenty of religious people smoke pot. I think I'm being pretty fair with you. I feel like you are confusing legality with morality that's all. It's illegal, but there's nothing immoral about it...so it's not WRONG...it's just not legal. I believe criminal law should coincide with morality, this one doesn't, so I think it needs to be changed.
And since I believe it is wrong that it's illegal...I think it's a law that needs to be broken. I know this is a different issue, but segregation laws were changed because of civil disobedience. The country is starting to notice that the people are still smoking pot, are against the law, and eventually the law will change...there's no doubt in my mind. This is why you don't just blindly follow the rules when you believe in something.
Also - here's the killer. Jesus Christ was one of the biggest law breakers in history. He pretty much said, 'your laws aren't the same as God's laws, God's laws win, Imma break em!!' and then he broke them...and he was crucified. Would you be just as prepared to say Jesus Christ was stupid because he broke the LAW and that was WRONG and he deserved to be nailed to a wooden cross? He knew it would happen, he accepted that fate, and stood up for his beliefs.

@bermudaguy1 Also, as far as this Christian stuff, I never used to care about religion or the Bible. But then in my early 20's I started investigating the LDS church. I was baptised over 30 years ago. It gives us a set of gospel principles to live by, and helps us learn and grow so that we can develop spiritually, which is needed in this life. We have additional scripture which really does help explain the Bible. I can't imagine where I'd be without it.

My folks smoked pot on occasion, believed in God, instilled good morals in me, took me to church helped me with my homework and I didn't even know they smoked pot until I was over 18 years old. They did a pretty good job, I'm a good guy I have a career, and good relationships with good people. I smoked pot a bit when I was younger, and stopped for no real reason, but guess how much impact it had on my moral character...did you guess 0 impact? Because that was the answer.

They didn't get it from the stereotypical drug dealing gangster you're probably imagining. My dad had another god fearing church goer friend who grew it in small quantities. Pot isn't as hard to find as you think it is, and it's not as hard to grow either. I also never experienced this idea of a shady drug deal. In my 20's I had a similar situation as my parents did. All just normal people who enjoyed a joint like a glass of fine wine.

@deathofsmokey I have ranted about this for YEARS about how annoying it is people call it "fine wine"!!! Nobody should use alcohol!! But they all use the excuse "Jesus drank wine." Eh, marijuana has proven medical benefits, but don't get me wrong the medical marijuana thing is complete bullshit. So no, I have no interest in justifying it's health benefits, that's not my argument. My argument is that the only realistic risk from smoking pot is...jail...so I vote to eliminate that risk. I'm also against jail time for all non-violent crimes, but that's another issue. Pot shouldn't be a crime. Alcohol should be. Alcohol is a horrible drug.
I want to note that I am a recovering alcoholic. I understand and agree with you about the dangers of alcohol and the seriousness of it. So I understand what it is to be an addict, I understand addictiveness. So I understand why pot is so completely different. I think your heart is in the right place - but we have two different understandings of the issue...and mine has a lot of experience behind it. When it comes to alcohol, I'm ashamed to admit that.
I don't really consider it a disease. Maybe a disorder, but it always bothered me when they called it a disease. It's more of a compulsion that psychologically stems from other areas. It can feel like a disease at times, though, so I guess I'm being picky. People can be mentally addicted to anything...anything at all. So to pull the mental addiction thing doesn't really cut it for me. Alcohol is much different, it's physical, and it will kill you in a night.

It's not that you speak up against marijuana it's the comical way you do it. How can you not understand my argument? I've said this a billion times and any Christian would tell you this is true - JESUS preached this - just because it's a law does NOT mean it's moral. Breaking the law does not make you a bad person. Martin Luther King broke the law, Jesus broke the law - what about this concept is hard for you to understand? LEGALITY =/= MORALITY!!!
@deathofsmokey Also, about the alcoholism thing; years ago I read Suzanne Somers' story about growing up in an alcoholic family (her dad was one) and how it affected her. It was a great book and an eye-opener! My parents and other relatives had drinking problems. I know alot about alcoholism. I did experiment briefly with alcohol back in college in the 70's but luckily I was smart enough to stop. It's not good to drink that stuff, not even "in moderation" as so many people say. gotta go, bye!
I'm glad you were moved by her story. It's crippling to experience the addiction. It literally invokes a sort of insanity. I'd be interested to hear the stories you've read about pot addiction. As long as it wasn't just you watching "Reefer Madness".
@deathofsmokey Yeah, it's a great book. Anyway, I know most casual users don't get "addicted" to marijuana, but I've heard from heavy pot smokers that they were addicted--maybe not physically but mentally. But that's not the point. It's the casual smokers that are the worst! I'd have more sympathy for a strung-out junkie than a casual smoker! At least the junkie should know to get help and hopefully stop altogether. But the casual pot smokers just keep the whole illegal drug trade in business.
Yeah - which is good because it helps the government understand why it's stupid to keep it illegal. You want to get rid of the legal drug trade? Legalize pot. The real criminals lobby to keep it illegal, just like the Al mob supported prohibition of alcohol. 1. You're wrong about pot.
2. You don't understand the drug.
3. You don't understand the culture

Alcohol won't ever be illegal again. Pot will eventually be legal. It's cool that you're against it. You should consider it a health issue and reach out to people with addictions instead of chastising people and harrumphing like my grandma.

Did it occur to you that not everyone who is in favor of legalization is a pot smoker? Smoking pot isn't a necessary activity, and it's not entirely healthy either, but there's no logical validation for it to be criminal to smoke pot. Its prohibition, just like the prohibition with alcohol, is creating more crime, more gang violence, and putting innocent people in jail. It's not just about letting people do what they want, it's about common sense and fixing an injustice.

Basically, it's out of fear of losing their jobs, and the jobs of their buddies who work in prisons. I've only recently learned what big business prisons are. Most of the "free" world has roughly 38/1000 citizens in prison. The U.S. has something like 130/1000 in prison. We lock up more of our citizens than anyone, and it's due to small amounts of cannabis.......Nice.
The more I've talked to pot-smokers online, the more I am convinced that marijuana should remain illegal--all over the world--with the death penality for anyone caught with any amount. Pot smokers in general have been horrible to me, using profanity, making fun of me, accusing me of things, using every lame excuse in the book to justify their drug use, etc. I've finally made up my mind about this whole legality issue. DONT LEGALIZE IT. I just want it decriminalized, because as soon as its legalized, companies are going to start adding toxic things like they did to tobacco in cigarettes, to make money. The County is currently giving them $57,688.00 per yr per judge in addition to the pay and benefits they receive from the State. @bermudaguy1 Also, as far as this Christian stuff, I never used to care about religion or the Bible. But then in my early 20's I started investigating the LDS church. I was baptised over 30 years ago. It gives us a set of gospel principles to live by, and helps us learn and grow so that we can develop spiritually, which is needed in this life. We have additional scripture which really does help explain the Bible. I can't imagine where I'd be without it.

My folks smoked pot on occasion, believed in God, instilled good morals in me, took me to church helped me with my homework and I didn't even know they smoked pot until I was over 18 years old. They did a pretty good job, I'm a good guy I have a career, and good relationships with good people. I smoked pot a bit when I was younger, and stopped for no real reason, but guess how much impact it had on my moral character...did you guess 0 impact? Because that was the answer.

They didn't get it from the stereotypical drug dealing gangster you're probably imagining. My dad had another god fearing church goer friend who grew it in small quantities. Pot isn't as hard to find as you think it is, and it's not as hard to grow either. I also never experienced this idea of a shady drug deal. In my 20's I had a similar situation as my parents did. All just normal people who enjoyed a joint like a glass of fine wine.

Eh, marijuana has proven medical benefits, but don't get me wrong the medical marijuana thing is complete bullshit. So no, I have no interest in justifying it's health benefits, that's not my argument. My argument is that the only realistic risk from smoking pot is...jail...so I vote to eliminate that risk. I'm also against jail time for all non-violent crimes, but that's another issue. Pot shouldn't be a crime. Alcohol should be. Alcohol is a horrible drug.

So I understand what it is to be an addict, I understand addictiveness. So I understand why pot is so completely different. I don't really consider it a disease. Maybe a disorder, but it always bothered me when they called it a disease. It's more of a compulsion that psychologically stems from other areas. It can feel like a disease at times, though, so I guess I'm being picky. People can be mentally addicted to anything...anything at all. So to pull the mental addiction thing doesn't really cut it for me. Alcohol is much different, it's physical, and it will kill you in a night.

@deathofsmokey Also, about the alcoholism thing; years ago I read Suzanne Somers' story about growing up in an alcoholic family (her dad was one) and how it affected her. It was a great book and an eye-opener! My parents and other relatives had drinking problems. I know alot about alcoholism. I did experiment briefly with alcohol back in college in the 70's but luckily I was smart enough to stop. It's not good to drink that stuff, not even "in moderation" as so many people say. gotta go, bye!

Anyway, I know most casual users don't get "addicted" to marijuana, but I've heard from heavy pot smokers that they were addicted--maybe not physically but mentally. But that's not the point. It's the casual smokers that are the worst! I'd have more sympathy for a strung-out junkie than a casual smoker! At least the junkie should know to get help and hopefully stop altogether. But the casual pot smokers just keep the whole illegal drug trade in business.

Nobody has ever offered it to me in my life!! And I was not a big anti-drug activist in my college days, either. I wanted to be cool. Those are non-fact based opinions. So I'll boil it down simpler than I've been doing:
1. You're wrong about pot.
2. You don't understand the drug.
3. You don't understand the culture
4. You're fighting a losing battle.
Alcohol won't ever be illegal again. Pot will eventually be legal. It's cool that you're against it. You should consider it a health issue and reach out to people with addictions instead of chastising people and harrumphing like my grandma.

Did it occur to you that not everyone who is in favor of legalization is a pot smoker? Smoking pot isn't a necessary activity, and it's not entirely healthy either, but there's no logical validation for it to be criminal to smoke pot. Its prohibition, just like the prohibition with alcohol, is creating more crime, more gang violence, and putting innocent people in jail. It's not just about letting people do what they want, it's about common sense and fixing an injustice.

Think about it. Why would law enforcement "work to defeat legalization efforts"? Thier job is to enforce laws, not legislate.
Basically, it's out of fear of losing their jobs, and the jobs of their buddies who work in prisons. I've only recently learned what big business prisons are. Most of the "free" world has roughly 38/1000 citizens in prison. The U.S. has something like 130/1000 in prison. We lock up more of our citizens than anyone, and it's due to small amounts of cannabis.......Nice.

The more I've talked to pot-smokers online, the more I am convinced that marijuana should remain illegal--all over the world--with the death penality for anyone caught with any amount. Pot smokers in general have been horrible to me, using profanity, making fun of me, accusing me of things, using every lame excuse in the book to justify their drug use, etc. I've finally made up my mind about this whole legality issue. It really should remain illegal. Thanks, pot-smokers, for helping convince me.

DONT LEGALIZE IT. I just want it decriminalized, because as soon as its legalized, companies are going to start adding toxic things like they did to tobacco in cigarettes, to make money. Plus, weed prices would go slightly up. Decriminalizing it makes people able to smoke it without consequences (like smoking cigarettes when 16, just not being able to buy them), keeps the weed untarnished, and would probably make the world a better place. That's what the feds need to understand.

The County is currently giving them $57,688.00 per yr per judge in addition to the pay and benefits they receive from the State.
