after long time of watching youtube finally found how to start with this. All videos are not even close to this one. exactly what i need. Thanks man long live and all good.
thanks for cutting the bullshit. i've been practicising this technique for a little while now, and then realise that i've been doing correctly, only after watching someone like you doing it, whereas every other tutorial procrastinates around the actual lesson.
Great vid mate, love your speed and accuracy. I play a Lakland 5 string through an Ampeg SVT4pro & Classic box & would love if you could show what kind of settings & strings you use on your bass to achieve the different tones you're getting. Love the sound!
when you do the left hand thump, do you already have your hand covering the high string, or is it just a matter of practice? if I take my hand completely off, i tend to play the g string
For the first part of the lesson the g string is muted. The second part you'll see that I start playing fretted popped notes in the same circle of triplets as before.
Omg excellent explanation!!! I literally got it right away not up to you speed but consistently. Thanks soooo much, I have been trying to learn that forever.
When I tap It aways makes a note.. Is there a way to get your strings closer to your pickups or even your fretboard?? Any tips will help. I was thinking my bass isn't the best for playing slap.
When you say 'tap' you mean the left hand muted 'thump' across all the strings ? It's more a matter of not being too rough, if you press too hard you will get a tapped note instead of a muted one.
wats a gud slap and pop bass. along with a nice groove sound to it when i do chording? do i have to have to separate basses or can i get one that has a mixture of both? rite now i have an ibanez sr505. anyone can help me out?
fender p. ritter roya if u have the money. basically any bass... depends more on how you play and the amp blah blah blah. a good player can make a plywood crapheap sound like a ten grand beast.
I'd agree with that to a certain extent. Over the years you get an idea of what suits you. I've owned some fabulous basses that have been rubbish... Stingray... Kubicki Key Factor. Utter waste of money. My current Vigier Passion, nice 17mm string spacing.. sounds great either fingered or slapped.... I learnt to play on an old Ibanez Roadstar II which I had nicked, sorely missed :o(
yeah. i love my bass to death. its a yamaha rbx 260. all i need is my allan key and my rotosounds to have a beautiful sound. i find it pretty good since i paid only a couple hundred for it. and i agree. stingrays are rubbish hahaha. although i played a ritter seal the other day and that was just a pleasure to slap.
Hey, can you reverse it? I'm asking now and I know I'll try it before you answer, but hey why not put the idea out there. I'm think of using the thumb first and then the left hand and ending with a lovely pop.
You could yes, but you're talking about going from popping outwards to thumbing inwards in a single stroke, which makes things more awkward. The way I've shown you here.... you thumb inwards and on the way back out you pop, so it kinda flows better.
Thanks man! That really simplifies the triplets a lot. I always wanted to do them, but they looked like he was just double plucking and then a slap. That is why I couldn't reproduce his sound. But this will help a lot! Keep jamming man!
I just want to say thats its awesome that you actually explained what your doin. Im a guitarist, who dabbles in bass. Every other double thump/triplet video i have seen is just playin with no explanation. thanks for takin the time to explain what your doin. It helps alot =)
You are the ONLY video that I've watched and are actually learning the triplet technique. Been playing for years and never knew how to do that. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! Make more VIDS!
it´s probably the most helpful vid to clear up the miracle of what makes slapping so exciting. thanx a lot and please keep going!!! with more slap bass lessons!!!
That's what instructional bass videos do. You pay ridiculous prices for a 30-minute DVD that only gives about 2 minutes of useful information. Now if you buy 10 DVD's then you'll get about 20 minutes of useful info. I just got about 50 pounds worth right here in just 1:40. Great post FarOn.
thank you

@Masturbassest Yeah, you'll just be pressing too hard. It's a very light touch needed with your left hand.
