Thanks man! I got it! I had read in a guitar magazine that the lead singer always tunes his B up and that he had to replace the B with a G because it kept on breaking!
@mynameispitt thanks so much, this helped me put together all of the bits i didn't know :) the part that you teach at around 4:00 sounds great, and after watching the video of the band playing it live, it is almost exactly what he does :)
@JC593 Yes.... yes there is... there is 1 guy on UTUBE who does it... and it sounds like............. well.... not good... if you want to play it right... follow the vid
DUDE!!! This is the only song I could NEVER play on guitar. Dunno why I didnt think to look on here?? And a big LMAO at your comment "sorry for all the broken strings" That cracks me up (I had to read old posts to see just what happened to others) Great job and thank you! When I post my version will you comment on it?
brilliant video. maybe just say which fret as you do it and just tell us what to do rather than suggest please. never thought i would be able to play this well done !!!!!!!!!!!! u in uk?
Hey Bro,,,,I am sure you heard it a million times,,,but on behalf of everyone on here and potential ones to follow,,,I would like to say a huge thank you :) very appreciative of your time to show us. Excellent work!!! thank you again Bro!
hey this is real good.much easier than other videos of other songs.and dont worry bout those other videos u talk about, juss worry bout urs cause its pretty damn good seriously
Thank you, seriously. I think it's more fun for me for all the appreciation... but I have to complement all the ones that I learned from on YOUTUBE before I finally made this. I hope others and yourself will share as well.
Great lesson! I've been playing acoustic (standard tuning) for years, but have never really experimented with alternative tunings. I've always wanted to add "NAME" to our set list. Thanks VERY much!
Im hoping after I can tune my guitar like yours I can learn to play this! I have been lookin everywhere for tablature and I couldnt find anything I liked. Thanks for posting this! :]
Pitt...thanx...great lesson....I did not catch the phrase in time and I did break the b...I will be sending you a reciept from guitar center.....just kidding...thanx for sharing your talent...rock on Garth.
So many on YT know how to play songs, but not how to explain them to others.
Just a suggestion: don't sing, then no one will criticize and you won't have to apologize! It doesn't bother me anyway when you disclaim it from the onset. It is a GUITAR lesson and not a singing lesson, right?
That was great! Great lesson, I started playing it right away after watching and it sounds incredible! But, I do agree, stop apologizing and post more lessons!
I don't ave a clue on how to play guitar I was wondering if u could post a vid for complete beginners who don't know much about playing the guitar thanks very much
@markyarsenal Of course I cannot speak for mynamespitt, but this is an intermediate/advanced lesson. There are others on YT who do have FREE beginner lessons. One I like is saskstrum. I haven't looked at his beginner stuff, 'cause I'm not a beginner, but he's as good as any here on YT. Has a thick Brit accent, but is quite patient and thorough. He doesn't ask for money and kindly doesn't tolerate b.s. requests or criticism; "if you don't like how I'm doing it, find someone you DO like"
Finally a video of ''name'' that actually sounds like the original song, very nice job and good explaining, what else could you wish for? 5/5 from me;)
i taught myself this song lol. i tried this song 2 years ago when i felt weird about my grades in middle school or if i just felt down to let it go. then, about a few months ago in camp (entering high school), i tried to master this song by myself, and i got it. i just got down singing and playing together this week (this song). i tune differently: D A D D A E and make it sound flat because IMO it gives a more depressing mood when it sounds flat. this is my favorite song of all time. nice vid!
That sounds incredible, I'm gonna come back and learn this later. Don't have time now, and don't wanna tune my guitar this second. But you did an amazing job here, thanks a lot for posting this.
Agreeing with everyone here, good video man. However I have a question concerning the tuning of the 4th string, I'm sorry if someone mentioned this already. But in your info and the beginning of the video you say to tune the 4th to E, but at 4:30 in the video you say "the 4th is now tuned to D." A lot of videos out there suggest D as well. What is the more accurate tuning?
Your a great teacher bro!! You taught me this song, I played it for my wife and she tackled me like a groupie on a rock star!! No need to apologize in the future for your skills or lack thereof, your tha man!!!
The actual tuning that John Rzeznik invented for the song name is (starting from low E) is D,A, E,A,ee. The B string is not tuned down to e but up three steps to high e. Just wanted to let you know if you didn't already. Just and FYI. thanks.
