yeah...always remember chilling out with TD...my friends never got them, but i couldn't accept their arguments (pop music/mainstream radio listeners)...it is so much about ambience and sound, so much so that TD create tangible realms of feeling and then thought...

Excuse me, but you have not heard my washing machine! But in all honesty, what is so great about this TD music? It's dated, it's dreary, it's meandering AND if the best plaudit it can be awarded is that it kick started the whole New Age Muzak era, then, to my mind, that's hardly much of a compliment. Bowie, Eno, Kraftwerk were all much better.

no artist always does flawless work over the decades.most of the year i don´t listen to tangerine dream and i think some of their later work´s certainly overrated in a way.but Rubicon and Ricochet i need to listen to 1x or 2x a year.on the second side of Ricochet (live rec.74 at Rheims Cathedral in France)you hear influences of French impressionism(Debussy/Satie).E­ven the cardinal was impressed,but not about some T.D.-fans,who pissed against Cathedral pillars.T.D.are no gods,got it?

you should not underestimate the sound of a washing machine! i don´t exactly know whatever eno used all onhis records: on "taking tiger mountain..." you have the joy of listening to a triggered type-writer on one track, so what?? Bowie:on the second side of heroes you can clearly hear influences of T.D., Cluster etc. (AFTER" V-2-Schneider": "Sense of Doubt etc.).Anyway i would prefer T.D. on any day to, let´s say, Wagner, who is horror ro me........

A few years ago I had a serious accident and was house bound for a few weeks. One day the snow was really heavy and my mum and I drove into the city and I bought this album and listened to it for the first time as SOON as I got home. Now I was on heavy medication and seriously depressed and the tune just put me into some kind of relaxed state and with the snow falling outside my window, it hypnotised me. This brings back so much memories!

There`s something deeply mysterious and otherworldly about these early 70`s tangerine dream albums,and all the krautrock stuff.Something in the air/water,they seemed to capture something,just a passing ambience that vanishes with time.

The sound on "Rubicon" is very much the same as on "Ricochet". Both are from 1975 or about that time. I simply love that kind of music. Almost magic! These albums reminds me of Kraftwerk; the way they sounded in the mid-70's.

You are right. I have 15 TD-records on vinyl (all of them from the same shop) and the owner of that shop told me that he considered the music of Tangerine Dream to be "modern classical music". And so do I. At least their recordings from the 70's. They seem more complex to me than the productions from the 80's.

now we are on this subject what is the defining feature if there is one that determines whether it is classical or not this has puzzled me for many years , Mike Oldfield is another that falls very close to classical - Trichoone

alot of italian bands also utilized classic and jazz music with rock bands like le orme,banco,goblin,latte e miele,flea on the honey,formula 3,jumbo all from this era of classical rock, german bands like gila,gomorrha,grobschnitt,jane­,eloy,eiliff,dschinn,2066 and then,message,frumpy,light of darkness so many great bands in this era from europe uk also had many and so many other countries too
