  • THAT CAT IN THE BLUE DIPLOMAT IS GUNNA GET SMACKED, HE DESERVES IT

  • Full F9ABBA Helpers at the rear. What a rare site indeed!

  • Did you see the hottie in the camaro at 2:00?

  • 7:00 dumbass kids, you should never ever play on railroad tracks nor fuck around on the train cars not only is it illegal but its extremely dangerous. i learned that ever since i was a little kid

  • @wackymac28 Yeah, but when you were a kid you played on the tracks as well right? I sure as hell did.

  • 4:35BN F-units as helpers.

  • wow! impressive filming

  • idiot kids

  • Those were the days. F45's, SD45's, Big GE's and F-unit helpers. Trains still crossed the Mississippi River in Minneapolis on the Stone Arch Bridge. BN used SW1200's at Northtown yard. Boxcar railroading was still alive and well.

  • The Griswold signal at 1:40 was interesting as were the covered wagon pushers later on.

  • The Griswold signal at 1:40 was interesting as were the covered wagon pushers.

  • The piggyback cruising by at 2:54 is so cool. Love the camera angle.

  • the blond at the begining is hot

  • @airplanebuilderman

Indeed she was. Good eating pussy there. Glad she did not get killed by the Burlington Northern.

  • This seemed like a montage than a safety video.

  • OMG AMTRAK SUPERLINER, yes that brings back memories traveling from texas to cali in the late 80's.

  • Wow, awesome to see the "rotating banner" Griswold crossing signal!

  • The BN Railroad. Operating at it's finest in this footage.

  • hi, thank you.

    really nice

  • FREAKING AWESOME.

  • how the hell did a heated argument start over a thirty year old train video? God damn, youtube.

  • 5:48 is awesome... too bad there's no trackage downtown across the NP #9 or Stone Arch bridges, since the new Minneapolis train station doesn't allow through-routing of Amtrak or Northstar Commuter trains from St Paul to the north via Minneapolis

  • I'm from Seattle, and the BN was the first railroad I ever saw, so these videos really take me back! :) Especially the Dash-Two's.

  • What up with the douche in the el camino? lol was it normal to park in between the tracks 30 years ago?

  • awesome video !

  • 4:00 is that marias pass area?

  • Griswold Signals!

Griswold Signals were mostly found in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Griswold Signals should be listed in the info so that people can find all the Griswold Signals on YouTube.

That almost collision at 2:15 was based on many past collisions and predicted future collisions with auto and pedestrians.

As interesting as the Griswold Signals were, the gates are needed on all four corners to keep people from running the lights.

  • I don't care at all what you "think". I meant exactly what I said! Your obvious hobby is that you take great pleasure in rudeness and and insult. I read comments from others you apparently did the same thing to in your channel, and it was from that that I reached my conclusion. You are pathetic. Buh-bye.

  • The "hobby" I was referring to, as well as the point I was making was the fact that you take such pleasure in rudeness and insulting people whom you do not know. People like yourself --who are nothing but attention whores-- have the gall to call a person a "moron". My point went right over your head!

  • Of course you "don't care" about the person. That was obvious from the first comment you posted! You value your hobby more than human life!

  • No, I am not, you rude bastard. But, I know of a young man who was killed because he was distracted as he approached a rail road crossing that had only crossbucks. If the crossing would have had flashing lights, he would still be with us.

His was the 2nd fatality, and the 3rd accident at the crossing. Of over 6,000 crossings in Ohio, the crossing is #81 of the most dangerous. As a result of his death, the crossing will be closed.

  • I don't see you as rude. Just unrealistic when you make a general statement that "ALL" crossings should have, at the very least, signals.

The simple fact is that your solution is not affordable. Communities already have huge financial issues. In most cases the same money spent on protecting a railway crossing could buy dozens of traffic lights or provide clothing and shelter for a year to dozens of people.

Closing that specific crossing is a great answer.

  • @charlieb640 I agree that ALL crossings can't have the whole package once it comes to pedestrian protection because the roads that only have the crossbucks don't have much traffic. But, the thing is, communities DON'T buy the grade crossing systems, the railroad companies do. And, even if all grade crossings had all the bells and whistles, some people (I know a bunch) will still heed the warnings to try to save a few minutes. But eitherwise I agree with you on that basis.

  • @VilquinProductions You have a big misconception here. Many grade crossing systems throughout North America are completely funded and often maintained by the communities. In the last few years I've worked down here we haven't installed a single crossing system at our expense. (We do assume the maintenance afterward).

I can't affort $250,000 for a gated and signalled system. The money comes from the taxpayers who are in effect paying to cross private property.

  • @charlieb640 I've met many employees of the Canadian National railroad on the Saukville sub, and they tell me that the railroad pays for the grade crossing signals. I was not implying that the employees themselves pay for them, that upper management has a budget on crossing repair. The CN keeps gates and other pieces of $250,000 warning equipment a few miles north of my home, so I know the railroad has something to do with installation and deinstallation of grade crossing equipment.

  • @VilquinProductions The installation itself is usually performed either by the Class I road or by contractors hired by them. For regional and shortline railroads it is often contracted out.

I'm not conversant on CN and what their policy is. However, I am definitely involved in signal installations down in the lower 48. Railroad crossings and major upgrades are usually funded by communities.

  • Charlie, we've had this conversation before.

  • Funny 7:15 for trespassers they sure know how to cross rail cars by the FRA rule. A true trespasser would step on the cutting lever then step on the coupler and swing on the handhold then jump down xD

  • What we see at 5:06-5:09, are not safe. All crossings should at the very least, have signals.

  • and....who's going to pay for that?

  • I will, if that is what it takes!

  • That's great audiophile.

Let's see. Signal systems run about $200k a pop when installed.

And there's probably tens of thousands of unprotected grade crossings in North America. (Are you paying the bill for the US alone, or are you going to cover Canada and Mexico).

So hey, we'll all feel very safe with you doing this!!!

    Now, a thought.

Why not put that same money toward feeding and housing the homeless, cancer/aids research, etc. It would save dramatically far more lives.

  • Woah, SD45s leading a TOFC!

  • Classic Nike's on the kids, jeans pulled up to their waist, vintage Camaro RS, cabooses, hooker red nail polish, and griswold signals! Thanks for posting this museum piece!

  • Griswold flashers from 1:30 -2:22 in an urban setting--weird to see double trackage without a gate!

Griswolds cameo again at 5:22 -5:35 double trackage again!

Very neat to see this. Thanks!

  • Gee's I thought those cars crossing around the safety barrier were going to be hit, some people really are foolish.

  • Great job to BN!

    Nice video!

Makes you think about the "It cant happen to me" saying!

  • I like how all of the cars in these trains look brand new... After all this was the time when most of todays cars were being made.

  • At 5:50 that is the stone arch bridge in Minneapolis, MN it's now a bike bridge. Great vid!!!

  • oh cool!

  • Loved seeing that there were cabooses in use. Love to see more of that today.

  • YES i miss the caboosses

  • Most Regional Shortlines use them still. I used to live in Romeoville, IL and Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern still use cabooses today

  • Class 1's still use cabooses, but usually on locals or jobs that require a long shove. NS uses them frequently in Norfolk, VA.

  • At 4:35 Covered Wagons!

  • Best commentary comes at 8:25. Wise words to heed.

  • yeah it is

  • Burlington Northern deisels look really nic on HO sets in the Blue/White and Green/Black scheme

  • quite a number of cars were impatient at the crossings, they would create a lot of stress for the train driver

  • Great video. Does a good job of showing the greatness and danger of rolling stock.

IMO the narrator sounds much like the one in the animated "Grinch Who Stole Christmas."

  • This is a great video, there needs to be more like it around today!!

  • Note the F-units around 4:36

  • I like the footage shown around Marias Pass, very nice.

  • How nice it was then.....no graffitti!
