Wow, she is 72! So many singers lose their voices altogether and few hold their registers. Shirley's voice is still as powerful with a slightly changed register and STILL she is probably the only person who can sing the way she can. Her latest album is AMAZING. This Time is only one of many standout songs. I am glad she has continued to occasionally record newer material because these newer songs suit the voice she has now-which to me has a richness now that it did not when she was younger.
I was fortunate enough to see her at Carnegie Hall last week.......I just want more......I want to see her in concert by herself......She has that wonderful, powerful voice......To tell you the truth....she was the best one at the Rainforest Concert!!!!!! I've bought DSB's latest CD, an excerpt of which is the hit "This time". The whole CD is AMAZING! Just listen to the unparalleled condition of her supremely unique voice! Time has given her instrument a patina, a pathos, a power, a husky but warm and round color never heard sofar. Who can still sing like DSB at this "venerable" age? Young singers should have one unique inspiration in their career path, ie. DSB! The voice is improving with time. A true Golden Age Legend! Bless Her!

Months ago a friend of mine told me that he heard that Dame Shirley had throat cancer. Thank God, with all of her activity last October and November, this is obviously an untrue rumor. The first time I saw her live was at the legendary Carnegie Hall concert in 1973, and I've seem her many times since, most recently in 2000 in Ft. Lauderdale. May she sing on, forever!

Wow, she is 72! So many singers lose their voices altogether and few hold their registers. Shirley's voice is still as powerful with a slightly changed register and STILL she is probably the only person who can sing the way she can. Her latest album is AMAZING. This Time is only one of many standout songs. I am glad she has continued to occasionally record newer material because these newer songs suit the voice she has now-which to me has a richness now that it did not when she was younger.

I was fortunate enough to see her at Carnegie Hall last week.......I just want more......I want to see her in concert by herself......She has that wonderful, powerful voice......To tell you the truth....she was the best one at the Rainforest Concert!!!!!! I've bought DSB's latest CD, an excerpt of which is the hit "This time". The whole CD is AMAZING! Just listen to the unparalleled condition of her supremely unique voice! Time has given her instrument a patina, a pathos, a power, a husky but warm and round color never heard sofar. Who can still sing like DSB at this "venerable" age? Young singers should have one unique inspiration in their career path, ie. DSB! The voice is improving with time. A true Golden Age Legend! Bless Her!

@cameronstl You are right.. Dame Shirley is a serious vocalist.. she has gone through a vocal crisis a few years ago and she went back into study and fixed her problems.. Her voice is fabulous.. it sounds young for any age and she is 71 in this video!

Months ago a friend of mine told me that he heard that Dame Shirley had throat cancer. Thank God, with all of her activity last October and November, this is obviously an untrue rumor. The first time I saw her live was at the legendary Carnegie Hall concert in 1973, and I've seem her many times since, most recently in 2000 in Ft. Lauderdale. May she sing on, forever!

I'm not being racist or anything but Afro-carribean rappers have a remarcable ability to look and sound like apes when they attempt to singand dance. The dame looking stunning as usual she has a style and voice that nobody can match. Exept Tom Jones with the power of his voice. The welsh might have terrible weather they certainly seem to breed talent Jones, Bassey, Burton, Hopkins etc etc.
