  • VERY well done!

  • We don't want a handout, Mister

We're just telling you our need

    We're now taking Direct Action

To rid the world of corporate greed!

  • A fitting anthem to the Occupy Movement!! They should sing this loud !!!!

  • I would just like to note that "Farmer-Labor Party" doesn't mean "Socialist Labor Party" or "Communist Party" or "Socialist Party". The Farmer-Labor Party was an actual political party of its own, built upon an ideology of social democracy and decentralized socialism (particularly in the form of support for a cooperative commonwealth), not centralized, Stalinist, statist "socialism" (more like "state capitalism")

  • The panel displaying Bill Gates kind of bothers me. Bill Gates is well known for his selfless donating.

  • @Vurtuskock That reminds me of a story that Utah Phillips told.

It seems that at one point Utah had a decision to make about a record contract and Pete told Utah, "Yeah, they always talk about the good that can be done with their dirty money."

  • nice one, and thanks for the chords, Spain :P

  • one of the most truthful statements ever made!

i need not gold or diamonds

i need a fair wage for honest work

  • Chords: C F and G, just in case anyone is interested

    God bless this america

    (from Spain)

  • U.S wake up

    Destroy the bipartidist dicatorship!!!

  • The answer of your questions is simples:

The problem of the Constitucional Republic is its very own basis. It is made to protect capitalist exploitation and to server the bourgeoisie.

In Socialist system its a question of managing foreign intervention and inner problems such as capitalist actions such as media manipulation, riots or even payed contra-revolutionary guerillas.

To your last question I would say it is possible, but not in 50years nor 100years.

  • That all said, I do like the song. It has a profound amount of Humanism in it.

  • Comment removed

  • It doesn't matter whether the country is socialist or capitalist; if the people aren't willing to fight for their rights to life, liberty and prosperity, you will only receive what you are given until you stop demanding it.

  • still kicking, despite what the bosses tell you.

    viva la revolucion!

  • communism to USA now!

they told us capitalism is good,, but there's still poverty, misery and suffering...just give the millions that few have to the People and end poverty.

  • "Just give the millions that few have to the People and end poverty,"

That's it? That is the magical solution to the problem? Throw money at it and everything will be fine? Well you can put down Capitalism all you want as an economic system and I won't mind, but what is the reasoning behind this? Capital is the use and exchange of capital, which currency is a part of. You are essentially saying that the use of capital can end poverty. What kind of communist are you?

  • To be fair to Karl Marx, since he did invent the term, Capitalism is the private ownership of capital. Mine, is much more liberal, being the use/exchange of capital. So economically I see three systems: Free Market, Regulated Market, and Controlled Market.

But unless we are defining communism in the same way, it is the abolishment of private ownership. Communism wouldn't trust the people with something as delicate as the generation and redistribution of wealth.

  • The use of capital can end poverty when the capital is in the State's hands.

When I say give the millions to the people, is to give what is rightfully theirs and what they worked all life for.

But in this stupid regime where Paris Hilton did nothing and just inherited millions, and where millionaires like Warren Buffet profit from near slavery or as K. Marx would say "white slaves" in south america.

  • I know what you mean and it is a definite possibility, but the only problem with it is that "the use of capital [can] end poverty when the capital is in the State's hands. But how are you going to ensure the Capital is spent well? The recent stimulus packages pushed by the last two administrations were State issued, but failed to address both short and long term problems.

Communism might work, but not under people who could not work together to prevent their own exploitation.

  • The Capital isnt spent well when the two last administrations are capitalists.

Lets get this straigh, when I mean the capital must be in State's hands, I mean the State controlls the Economy.

In USA big corporations control the State.

And so you get wars, bad health system, earth pollution, mass 3world countries exploitation, etc etc.

And that is only possible with a communist state, not a democrat right-wing neo-liberal full of lies and fake "state measures" or a republican fascist party.

  • The purpose of a Constitutional Republic under a system of Limited Democracy to establish a governing body, of and for the people.

The purpose of a Communist Government is establish a governing body, of and for the people.

Is it the government, or the people who have done wrong in these sytems? Is it capitalism, or greed for money that causes the deviation from public concern to corruption?

Is a "true" Communist State anymore possible than a true Constitutional Republic?

  • However, I've probably ranted on long enough, so if you wish to end the discussion as an "agree to disagree," I'll respectfully submit at any time.

  • The problem is that you dont see it a marxist way.

A Constitucional Republic is a system made by the bourgeoisie at the expenses of the working class, for the bourgeoisie.

If you want to be precise and exact, since I am a student of politics, you should say in a Socialist regime not in a communist regime ( because marxism proclaims it to be the last step in communist evolution). Anyway, in a Socialist system the government is made by the worker class represented in the Communist Party.

  • states are illegitimate structures of coercion and power that should be deconstructed and done away with. in a free and just society, states don't inherently exist. they COULD exist, if everyone agreed that was the way they wanted to go, but that almost certainly wouldn't happen if people were free.

  • Thats why i love communism. In the final state of communist evolution there will be no state, until then lets get rid of those exploiters

  • people aren't working together to prevent their exploitation because the wealth stolen from their elders has been used to poison their minds through propaganda. that's what power means, when you say something, and it trumps all the mountains of evidence. so simply, those in power claim that people are free and this is the way things ought to be, and people naturally fall in line with it... for a while. but the effort on the part of the oppressor to control is inconceivably immense. and it works.

  • Praise to Woody Guthie..who started

    the entire movement

  • Great old song! Allways ...

  • I love this song - thanks for the uploade!

  • i dont want your cellphones mister

i dont want your nike shoes

all i want is my old job mister

so i can feed my children food.

  • We have to build a new place to live.

  • So, I don't want your millions, Mister,

I don't want your diamond ring.

All I want is the right to live, Mister,

Give me back my job again.

  • Fine Video! Great song!

  • Thanks very much for postingthis!

  • I watched Pete Seeger perform this live last week on his 90th birthday.

Damn near brought a tear to my eye.

  • The problem with the Farmer-Labor/Socialist party is that politicians are bourgeoisie. It's like the professional union organizer (AFL), he may try and act in the interests of workers, but he would never let them have power for themselves.

  • God bless a new socialist America

  • I have been born and raised in America and have been brought up to believe in my country and capitalism. that being said, FUCK CAPITALISM. its the great lie pulled over us workers eyes. we are the slaves that drive the rich and select peoples of America. They have us conviced that capitalism is better for us. FUCK THAT!! lets see them work one fuckingshift at ANY manufactoring plant. then lets here what they have to say

  • As I'm italian, it's much to easy for me to clap my hands to such a beautiful and meaningful song. It's not a matter of political vision, it's a matter of do-or-die and it's always been the same anyplace. If I translated this tune into Italian, it would be perfectly up-to-date for our situation here right now. Creative financing and savage speculation made it easy for a country that lived pretty well till 15 years ago to slide down to a point where you don't reach the third week with your salary

  • Jesus once told a man that "it was easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven." The man he was talking to gave 1/3 of his wealth away to the poor every year. Charity is nice, but our salvation will only come through a revolution where hierarchy, capitalism, and patriarchy are smashed and we live in harmony with the earth and share all its bounty.

  • thanks for this classic. More relevant than ever. Harvest time is coming...

  • Im sorry dude, I understand the meaning of the song, however I hate people who have babies who cant feed them. Its kinda like, you probibly cant feed your babies cause there are millions of other people making babies who cant feed their kids.

  • Have you seen the rising price of food? Do you shop for your own food? People in Haiti have for years resorted to eating "Dirt Cookies" (yes they are made from dirt) High Gas prices has caused more corn to be used for Ethenol, which means less used for food. And you're saying what in your comment? You hate poor people?

  • I'm sorry if that seemed very nasty there lol. I can kid of get like that sometimes. :P

The song actualy is about Unions however.

  • i my comment isnt about unions its about overpopulation. You can give people food but thats just soaking up blood, not healing the wound, you need to sustain the population at a level where you are capable of feeding everybody.

  • I don't understand. The rich are rich off the blood sweat and tears of the working class. That's why we in the IWW call for an end of the wage system and for the working class to own all of the fruits of their labor. Overpopulation? We don't have that, we just have some fuckers with too much damn money than they know what to do with.

  • I just made a vid like 10 mins ago about eliminating the elite class so i obviously agree, but i can definatly say we are overpopulated, atleast by my standards. Personally I wish their were alot less people, but if we could maintain what we have now i could live with it. Only problem is we are just gonna keep making more babies and pretty soon the only hope for us will be a miracle crop(some say hemp) but still even that miracle would collapse eventually. bigger we are harder we fall

  • I can see your point actually. We have better medical treatment than we had in previous years. We take care of ourselves more, now more about science etc. And believe it or not, less die in wars. So all in all, our population is rising. However, some of the problems around all the time... starvation, polution, etc.... only they will become worse proplems without adressing them.

  • yeah, i guess i just reached a point where i realize the problems, and i belive the best solution is less people, atleast if you want to live happily. if people really need to have kids our society will have to make other huge sacrifices to allow it, which im opposed to.

  • That's actually a good arugment, in college I made wrote a paper for a class on the zero population movement. I myself am dedicated to not having children. Alot of people think I'm weird though... but it's my choice.

  • not weird, its good. 9billion by 2020! how many people do these breeders need to be happy.

  • Overpopulation IS a problem, but you're right, compared to the overconsumption of the rich, the strain on the environment of the poor is barely a factor. I mean its fucked up that some starve and others get to have mansions and hummers and diamonds and yachts. Distribution of wealth through revolutionary unions is a prerequisite to sustainability.

  • You probably don't care but I passed LAMDAthanks to you! You rock!

  • the best things in life can not be bought or sold. its the little things that matter most, but don't let them get to you. mercigraciasalute!
  • Now I can actually memorise the words of this song!

  • I've got my LAMDA's Coming up and i'mperforming this as my verse. I didn't know that it was also a song until I found out I had to research it. Thanks RedCeltic!

  • Check out the song "lazymuthafucka" by the Coup as a sort of update of this one.

  • Indeed, it's incredible.

  • Good one!

  • Excellent video but it's sad that this song is as relevant now as it was when it was first recorded.

  • So very true.

  • Story tragic but your composition beautiful.

  • Brilliant video RedCelt! Was unemployed for a long time and know what its like to work a shit job for shit wages!
