  • does the end appear to reflect man's relationship w/god to anyone else?

  • what strange ending O.o

  • Thank you very much for listing the orchestra as well!

  • whoa! catwoman's doing grand jetés! hehe...

  • Ever since I played the symphonic suite in my Youth Symphony, I've been in love with this. My favorite ballet ever, and a masterpiece.

  • Heaven, what is the title of this DVD?

  • omg a bear?!!?!

  • lol i wonder what they saw lol xD

  • This is beautiful. I learned about this Ballet in Music History class and had to check it out. So far it is amazing.

  • Folks, you will never see a better performance of Petrushka than this one by the Bolshoi. I suggest you download it to your hard drive and save it forever. No one does ballet better than the Russians.

  • @Edward245100 I just did...

  • I think it really is a bear! Crazy Russians! Awesome production though!

  • @talkingwall They always have been crazy lol xD

  • Is that bear real???

  • the poor bear!

  • The end is freaking awesome!!!

  • dude thats a fucking bear....a bear!

    awesome.

  • @luism233 WE'D MUCH APPRECIATE IT IF YOU'D TAKE THAT LANGUAGE TO A ROCK CONCERT AND AWAY FROM SOPHISTICATED MUSIC. THAT IS IF YOU'RE ABLE!

  • @forbeliculus Relax guy, Its shrovetide, he's got an indulgence :P

  • I think that Chagall with his paintings and Stravinsky with his music made the portrait of the russian in its entirity. I love painting, music and ballet. Thanks for sharing.

  • you know, this whole petrushka thing... really makes one wonder if a cloned person has a soul...

    i'd think so, though.

  • I acctualy feel sick after watching the peasant with the bear.

  • What are they all looking at 0:42 - 1:16???

  • Moor catches up with Petrushka and slays him with a single stroke of his blade.

Petrushkas ghost appears on the roof of the little theatre, his cry now in the form of angry defiance.

    Charlatan is terrified .

The scene is hushed, leaving the audience to wonder who is "real" and who is not.

  • Question, you seem to know a lot, ok so what's with petrushka at the end of scene two when he falls over and "floats"? off?

  • @asdrubal467 what's that from?

  • Petrushka es uno de los mejores ballets que puede ver no solo por su musica tambien por su significado donde el compositor critica a la sociedad rusa de esos tiempos

  • Nice.... Bolshoi theater rules!

  • Imagine, when this ballet first played. The people at the time, thought, this is boring because we see these type of people in the fair all the time. This is the year 1910. Now 2009, we look at the beautiful costumes and say wow , so that is what they look like in 1910.

  • More to the point, most now listen to the music and dismiss it as classical music like any other. When this was first performed it was unlike anything ever imagined, hardly any music before or since is so adventurous. The opening night ended in violent riots.

  • The one that got a riot was the Rite of Spring, not Petrushka. It's by the same composer, but it's a completely different beast.

  • Not this one, I think you mean Stravinsky's other work, the Rite of Spring. It made people in the crowd start punching each other because it was really controversial.

  • i think that would be the "Rite of Spring" written also by Stravinsky.

  • and in the Rite of Spring, they were wearing tights and stuff and that was regarded as almost performing in the nude. That was one of the reasons why people rioted and thought the ballet was terrible.

  • not as much the outfits as the music. it was pounding, throbbing, violent, almost beast-like music. It was filled with dissonance that was never before heard. Imagine going to the concert-hall today and hearing death metal music. That's what it was like.

  • No that's not true. In the rite of spring, part of the reason people were angry is because traditional ballets were performed in tights and tutus. That's what people expected. What shook things up was the fact that Stravinsky had the dancers wear traditional, earthy clothing. They were completely covered, showing np skin, and were wearing LOTS of clothing.

  • No, Petroushka went off fairly well. The riots were at the premiere of Le Sacre du Printemps. Both were written for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes and Vaslav Nijinsky was the first Petroushka and did the choreography for Le Sacre. Fokine choreographed Petroushka and the conductor at the premiere was Pierre Monteux. Both premieres were, of course, in Paris where the setting of both were considered exotic.

  • a real bear on stage? amazing!

  • Maybe the most powerful final scene of any ballet.

  • @swar0102 Yeah.... maybe. Freak.

  • I love the obscure themes streaming through this piece, with all of the esoteric depth and aesthetics.

  • This is one of my favorite ballets, but it is absolutely terrifying for me! It just makes me feel psycho!!! I hate it but I love it at the same time.

  • thanks for uploading!
