I got the fairy flute and it only took me 35 min. I went crazy trying to get the last thing. But one of my party members went into trance and I was holding the L1 and R2 during the trance. It must have open a glitch in the fight and that's how I got it. I did something that very few players did with out cheating or using some sort of device to hack the game. FF9 is one of the best role playing games ever, but very few players from around the world can every truly understand it like me.

I swear to god it's been like half an hour since when I started this battle and I have done nothing but trying to steal the damn flute with no success.

Thanks a lot for this, I would not be able to go on in the game without stealing this flute...the best part was, i had knocked his HP down so low that when i finally stole the flute i had Mug equipped and he just died after i stole it, made it a sweet victory. F U Hilgigars.

Just played that battle on my PS1 copy a minute ago.

Auto potion ate through 99 potions and 99 hi-potions.

EVERY CHARACTER achieved and wasted three Trances.

Eiko and Dagger ate through my entire stockpile of ethers.

I lost the battle without getting the Flute.

For a legendary thief, Zidane is shit at grabbing something as big as a flute off a giant with not many places to hide a flute.

You know what, Hilgigars? FUCK IT. Keep your fucking flute.

I just tried it today on PS3 and took me 20 minutes until I gave up and decided to kill the motherfucker out of frustration with Lucky 7. My Zidane even got into trance mode twice and still couldn't get the fairy flute.

Stealing Coral Sword from Lani was a pain as well.

Thanks man! I was doing it the wrong way! I spend about 6 hours just loading saves, not save after load. I tried your way and I get that damn Flute on third steal!

Final Fantasy IX, I managed to do everything in the game, only I never managed to steal the flute (on the PSX not emulator). And now i know why T_T....1/256.

I finished the game like 5-10 times and never got that damn flute.

That Fairy Flute must be stuck up WAY his a** for it to take THAT long to steal. Nabbing the Demon Mail from Tantarian is a pain as well.

omg, i sat over 1 hour at this stupid battle, because i wanted the fairy flute so much..

but i didnt get it, beacuse i was very angry after this time an d i turned of the playstation^^

by the way, every of my four characters had the ability auto-potion on and just after 1 hour they used 54 potions and 24 hi-potions :-X

dudes i dont want to sound like a dush or anything but im just asking no disrespect but wat the heck is a load and save state and is this item that rare because im still trying to steal this items and i have the game on pause and ive been doing this for 7 hours please tell me wat i did wrong so i can continue the game please tell and also im using a ps1 so ps2 and ps3 is there a game difference into hacking this so called rare item

I've stolen in on 4 play through files never had as much trouble as everybody says.. though i did go through a few reloads..usually got it in less than an hour

Well... you set the frame rate limiter, then since it's all slowed down you can do the jump rope game much easier. Also don't be afraid to use save states while you're doing it, just alternate slots so you don't overwrite one when you fail.

I never thought of using that load/save on ePSxe as a cheat... I only use it before and after the battle...
