Just wanted to let you all know that this is a small percentage of people in west virginia. 95 percent of the people here are good and normal people. I hate this movie and that show coal because of the way it represents our state. These people are an embarassment. I was born and raised in wv and I never wanna leave. There has been few times in my life that I've ran into people like this. Wv is a great place with great people. But do not come here and put it or it's people down or it will not be

I grew up in Boone County, WV. It's important to know that this family does not represent the whole of the area. There are normal, decent people living in Boone County. True, the place is ultra depressing, and very drug-ridden (more so now than when I was growing up) and I consider myself lucky to have gotten out. For most people in Boone County, or WV in general, the White family is an embarrassment.
This movie was ridiculous. The 6 year old stick up his middle finger at a guy that his mom hates is something that you should NEVER teach your kids to do. And the kids mom smoking a cigarette in front of her son was just as bad. I watched this with one of my friends and we only watch a small part of it because it was just too strange and weird. I live in NC and I have never seen anything like this. I am also from Upstate NY.

I don't live in WV (I'm a TN girl) and I wouldn't want to watch this movie. Mostly because those clips remind me of people I've hung out with back in my partier days. Their fun to party with in small doses, but after a while they REALLY depress you. They're only fun when you have alcohol in your system and the ability to ignore stupid shit. :) This movie would just depress me. The clips did.

I've been super busy lately, so I missed out on this while it was going on. Even though the 30 days is over, I recommend the movie "Land of the Blind." The title comes from the quote, "In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king." It's definitely a film that'll make you think. It didn't get very good reviews, but I was impressed.

Those were Senator Byrds (deceased) constituents. For his positives he was too liberal with the pork barrel spending just to get votes, social subsistence was a large part. Though I can't say that's as bad as corporate subsidies, tax evasion, & bailouts but the results are dubious. Thing is there are opportunities that people are missing. It depends upon priorities & even how someone is nurtured; that is, the familial influences, tough to escape if they get locked in a room & chained to a bed.

If you like documentaries, you should watch a film named "This Film is Not Yet Rated". It's a documentary about the MPAA and how the rating system has an impact on American culture. I found it very interesting, and a good watch.

The movie made the Whites look like some kind of uber-independent folk heroes. That is total BULLSHIT. These folks are not survivalists or rebels. I hate Johnny Knoxville for this movie. I hate everyone who does a documentary about where I live. Discovery Channel is supposed to be doing one that shows the good side of Appalachia. But I know it's going to be the same bull$hit. Everyone, listen up. Don't make assumptions based on these documentaries. We aren't anywhere close to as bad as we are portrayed.

First of all, I'm from Appalachia. Second, I HATE documentaries about people from Appalachia. They always, ALWAYS, pick the absolute worst of the worst they can find. They never show the good church going family. The coal miners daughter who grew up to be a very successful nurse who owns her own clinic. No. It's always this $hit. "A part of life that I've never seen before". Yea, that's because what you saw was the MINORITY among Appalachian people. Hell, it's the minority of Americans.

I've been super busy lately, so I missed out on this while it was going on. Even though the 30 days is over, I recommend the movie "Land of the Blind." The title comes from the quote, "In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king." It's definitely a film that'll make you think. It didn't get very good reviews, but I was impressed.

This movie, like so many others before, exploits a stereotype of people. In this case, it's that southern whites are crazy, lazy. and generally white trash. This is the EXTREME of the southern white and by no means represents the general population. I'm not saying this movie is a bad thing. A movie about a normal, southern family would be boring. Just saying....people should know that going in.

I live in Weirton, WV right now which is way up north in the pan handle. I used to live in Morgantown, WV and I went to college at Marshall which is in Huntington, WV. Those were Senator Byrds (deceased) constituents. For his positives he was too liberal with the pork barrel spending just to get votes, social subsistence was a large part. Though I can't say that's as bad as corporate subsidies, tax evasion, & bailouts but the results are dubious. Thing is there are opportunities that people are missing. It depends upon priorities & even how someone is nurtured; that is, the familial influences, tough to escape if they get locked in a room & chained to a bed.
