  • my nose is so big that i have a hard time even wearing these masks :( lmfao

  • Actually it 'did' keep them safe from infection. The essential oils in plants and herbs have a anti-bacterial effect and they were in fact using a ancient and now proven fact that you can fight the illness at hand with proper sanitation and anti-bacterial products...Plus a big bonus the herbs and flowers 'smelled' good unlike the stinky decomposing bodies and stench of old time privy's.You would probably get addicted to those things!

  • squidward!... 0_0

    sorry... :3

  • isint that like a Doctor? wat doctors use to wear a long time ago so they wont catch diseases?

  • @MrSamurai47 yes! in fact they would keep posies or flowers along with other herbs in the nose believing that it would keep them safe... which it didn't.

  • @MrSamurai47 No, it's not. It's a mask for Commedia del'Arte, a Zanni--basically a generic buffoonish servant. Generally, in Commedia, the bigger the nose, the stupider the character is supposed to be.

The Zanni mask did tend to look similar to the masks plague doctors used, but it doesn't cover the mouth, only the top lip; a plague doctor would cover his entire face with a mask, and then usually wear a shroud around their face to cover any remaining exposed skin.
